I’ve noticed that I’m hardly hungry at all at lunch, my overall cholesterol is down, my A1C has improved, my bowel movement is more regular and I feel better at 62 than I did at 32.

    • I've eaten oatmeal for breakfast (or dinner when skipping "breakfast") maybe 6 out of 7 days for years and years. Well, not oatmeal alone, but with cereals, veggies. eggs, protein powder, etc. Lately I've started to think it's actually not that good. But of course it's all relative to what you were eating before. Do I think it's a super bad food? Nope. Do I now think, before this video, that there are much better ways for the first meal (I often skip breakfast now)? For sure.

I take a couple plant based breakfast patties and break them up into the oats and add some savory spices. I did not even finish this guys BS about how oats are bad for you. I lost over 125 pounds, HBP, high cholesterol, and prediabetes working out and eating right, including a bowl of oatmeal every day. At 65 it's great being able to run 20-40 miles a week.

No belly fat, no bloating, no sugar cravings, and no health issues whatsoever. I only eat 2 meals a day. Intermittent fasting 19:5 (…sometimes 20:4). So a bowl of cereal and toast for breakfast, biscuits for snacks, sandwich for lunch, bun for a snack, potatoes/rice for dinner and then some other crap for an evening snack is a high carb diet that will cause 50% of the population to become diabetic. None of this is complicated only rarely discusses but is fully understood at the biomedical community.

He goes on to say: "The problem is emerging research is showing that lowering your total cholesterol and maybe even lowering you LDL cholesterol probably isn't that healthy." He immediately negates the "problem" by saying: "Plus you would have to eat ten to twenty bowls of oatmeal a day to get a noticable reduction in your total cholesterol." So unless you are eating ten to twenty bowls of oatmeal a day, his first "problem" isn't a problem at all. Why even bother mentioning it let alone lead with that as your first point?

  • I’m 48 and for a few years I always had random elevated heart numbers. Couldn’t get it fixed completely. Doc wanted to throw me on meds, I said no. Tried diets, supplements, etc…. still couldn’t fix it across the board. Decided to reduce breads (didn’t completely stop) and start adding oats to my blended shake for breakfast every morning. I put in 2 cups almond and/or cow milk, 1 heaping scoop of natural (no sugar) PB, 1 peeled apple (most pesticides are in the skin), 1 raw egg from our own chickens, 1 tbsp of 100% baking cocoa (for the phytonutrients), 1 scoop of raw organic honey, 1 scoop of quality Casien protein powder, and started adding 1/2 cup of organic OATS. My numbers ALL went perfectly in range in six months, I gained zero weight and actually lost a little, put on some more muscle and lost some fat in the process. Again, this was with nothing else changing such as more or less exercise or dietary changes from before. For me and what I’ve experienced with oats. I will absolutely continue eating it every day. I saw no negative affect of adding the oats, only positive.

I could not disagree more with almost everything described in this video about oatmeal (steel cut). I donate blood once a year and also get my cholesterol levels sent to me via email after donating. My total cholesterol is perfect as well as LDL&HDL. Steel cut oats regulate my bowel movements and prevent obstruction. I have never had ANY of the negative side effects mentioned in this video. In fact, if I miss a few days of not eating oatmeal, I feel noticeably worse. Lower energy, and worse Crohn's symptoms. Oats have never caused noticable fat gain either. I workout every other day and feel strongly that oats give me energy to do so, as well as support healthy muscles. There's plenty of documentation and literature from medical studies that show the many, many health benefits of eating steel cut oats. It is proven by many studies that oats' fibers are "softer" and they are known to be slow absorbing carbohydrates that have relatively slower process in breaking into sugar, providing more stable source of energy in comparison to shitty wheat toast that has no nutritional value for example. So this video is utter nonsense in that aspect. Oats pretty much do everything in the opposite way of what this person is saying here. And there's some truth about the gluten, except for the fact that even people that have celiac disease are most of the time completely fine with eating oats and oat products. Oats do not cause inflammation and they can actually soothe it. Might also be that Americans don't know how to process oats which is why they might turn out to be too processed or too rough and not polished enough. Pardon me if I phrased some things oddly. It's impossible to address every possible scenario for every human. I suggest people go out and buy a glucometer. If you eat a bowl of oats in the morning, check you glucose levels at the 30, 60, and 120 min marks. If your blood glucose is elevated and you don't like the prospect of insulin spikes then do something about it. Most people don't run 6 miles a day. Maybe we should, in that case then maybe we really do need a bowl of oatmeal in the morning. Which is how this probably started with farm work. If you don't work on a farm or run 6 miles a day, the bowl of oatmeal may not be so helpful. You don't need that much energy if you work in front of a keyboard and attend Zoom meetings. He's not lying, it's just a generalization, and that's OK.

I was on meds, but they weren't working good enough, and I was sitting at 145/90 most days (which was much lower than before the meds)... After a few weeks of only oats with fruit, my blood pressure dropped to 105/59 as the average.... my blood sugar dropped, also, and my doctor was please for the first time in a long time. When I went all meat, I got sick... my blood pressure shot way up, again, my skin got all red with white blotches, and my face felt flushed all the time... my colitis came back... But, when I went back to oatmeal, my colitis cleared up and everything else went back to normal. I find all you doctors, on the internet, say different things; some say oats are bad, others say it is good.... some say to only eat plants.... others, say plants will kill you.... others say only eat meat.... others say that eating only meat will give you cancer.... etc.... Not being a doctor nor being educated in nutrition, I cannot make an educated guess as to which doctors to believe. The way I look at it, whatever we eat, will kill us... so, I might just as well eat what makes me feel good. Oats makes me feel great... and I am satiated after eating oats and I don't get hungry again, like you said. [NOTE: anyone else reading this; I am NOT giving any advice, by sharing, openly, with the doctor, what happened with me on my different diets... I am just letting him know, my experience.]

This doctor can say whatever he wants to which doesn’t mean he is right in any of it because consuming a high animal, meat based protein diet has its own risks and downfalls since meat it is loaded with saturated fat which will stimulate your liver to produce more cholesterol, which in turn is detrimental to your health if you already have high cholesterol to begin with, can be bad for your kidneys, colon, heart and your health in general. The average height of a man was six feet, while seven-foot giants were by no means uncommon. Of 600 crofters evicted from Glen Tilt at the end of the eighteenth century, not one was less than six feet in height or measured less than 17 inches around the calf. People remained active long after their eightieth year, and ages of over a hundred were common. The staple diet of the Highlanders at this time was pinhead oatmeal porridge, vegetables, milk, butter, eggs and cheese with occasional fish, beef, venison, wild fruits, honey and soups.

  • Dr Berry. I eat whole grain oatmeal every day. I changed my diet 2 months ago and lost 15lbs brought my a1c down from 6.3 to 5.5 I would think if oatmeal was so bad for you how can someone like myself go from pre-diabetes to no longer in that category? I have changed my diet drastically but I do eat oatmeal ( whole grain ) everyday. I read that whole grain oatmeal helps lower your Glycemic index because of how the body digest it much slower because of the better fiber in it. 🤷‍♂️ Dr I am so much healthier right now then I was.....

Chicken, pork or beef which is always lean cuts. Some fish. Two Good yogurt brand is great. I'm currently down 18lbs ..... it's all in your mind. • Interesting, I was taught in Nursing Assistant class that breakfast literally means 'break the fast,' and the first meal of the day no matter what time you eat it or what you eat it's breakfast, or 'break the fast.' I took the class in 1993. I just retired last year. Thanks for the video. An educated consumer is the best customer.

  • My mother ate steel cut oatmeal for breakfast with pinch of salt & butter everyday for her life - 84 years. She was totally healthy, active, and had a clear mind all her life. Her hip bone broke and in the hospital she was given so much medication she died in about 4 weeks. The dr told us, that a mistake at the hospital gave her some medication that should not have been given together. It killed her. I’m glad she enjoyed her oatmeal. My advice it try very hard to stay away from hospitals and protect your bones with exercise, maybe weights.
