First look at the brand new Hustler Raptor XD lawn mower. This is my review on the Raptor XD and 3 things that I think could be improved on. The Raptor XD replaced the Raptor SD for the 2021 model year. What's your thoughts? Leave a comment below. This is the model that is replacing the Hustler Raptor SD. Thanks for watching!!

  • I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzhead.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

  • I'm buying one of these on Saturday. Can't wait. Lots of research went into my decision. I worked for a professional landscape company for 7 years and ran some very expensive commercial equipment. This unit appears to be exactly what I need for residential. Your video just reinforced my decision.

I'm about to change the transmission fluid in mine and this model does not have the expansion tanks so question is everything else is identical to the SD transmission hydraulic fluid / oil change as far as changing the oil itself and purging.. I plan on just removing the oil filters topping the fill holes off with hustler 20w50 transmission oil..purging with engine off then purging again with the engine running..Thanks

  • I checked out a Raptor X at the dealer recently and this video basically sold me. It's essentially the same mower with a couple extra features. One thing I liked about it vs the Dash XD was that the steering levers didn't hit my knees. Appears to be a solid freaking mower. Surprised it's at the price point.

  • I bought a 2020 SD last year..put 140 hours on it so far without issue. The removable deck plate, big bite tires and new height adjustment are all nice upgrades over my model. The tank may not have a fuel level indicator, but the previous design only holds a bit over 2 gallons rather than 3 because air gets trapped in it.

  • I am starting a lawn care business in SE NC and I will be mowing 1acre or less and I am going to have to stay at 44" max on the deck. Do you think I could use this mower for that application or should I move on to something else?

    @kyleeverhart3979@kyleeverhart39793 жыл бұрын
    • If you are limited on deck size then the XD 42" would be the only option that Hustler would have right now. The XD would handle properties that size just fine but you wouldn't get as many years of use out of it as you would a Fastrak or XONE. If I was in your position, I would buy an XD but just plan on selling it and getting a new one after every 200-300 hours. So that way you can sell it while it still has some good resale value (around here that used machine would sell for $2800+) and you get to stay on a newer machine that hopefully won't have any major issues and keep your cost of maintenance low. Thanks for watching!

  • So I have about 35 yards I cut a week. None of my yards are larger the half an acre. I currently have a 36'' inch Exmark walk behind but I'm looking at this mower because it comes in a 48'' inch deck and can still access most of my properties just as easy. Basically what I'd like to know is would this be a dependable mower for as many lawns as I have or should I look into a commercial variant instead.

      @PowerEquipmentMan@PowerEquipmentMan2 жыл бұрын
  • You only can put 1.5 gallons of gas in it. Because the neck goes in the middle of the side of the tank, air can’t get out. Wish you would have mentioned that!!!

    @robertmichaud1912@robertmichaud19122 жыл бұрын
    • I noticed this also. You can only fill the tank up halfway. This isn’t a good design. With my older SD model I could cut my entire five acres & still have fuel left over. With the new XD I have to refill the tank after half the cutting time. The tank is usless.

      @lawrencewhitmire6740@lawrencewhitmire6740 Жыл бұрын
    • I saw your comment the other day and today while looking at this mower to buy in the shop I had a close look. There are two tubes coming through the top of the tank and one appears to be a breather/overflow because it leads down to an open end. In that case I would guess the tank should fill completely but maybe at a slower rate once it gets past the neck. I could be completely wrong though. Why else have two tubes?

    @michaelseal8410@michaelseal84103 жыл бұрын
    • The deck mounts have been changed quite a bit, I don't think it would fit. Just deck shells alone cost around $1000, so probably wouldn't be very cost effective to do.

      @PowerEquipmentMan@PowerEquipmentMan3 жыл бұрын
    • Do you have the bar going across the bottom of the discharge opening? Some people cut that off. Hustler even has a support bracket you can bolt on, if you do cut it open.

      @skliros9235@skliros92352 жыл бұрын

  • There is also no slot/hole for towing a garden trailer on the rear of the deck. They sale a “Hitch” kit for $49 that you have to install yourself. The discharge chute is made of a stiffer grade plastic, but while being robust it will not take very much to snap it off whenever you rub it up against something, because it doesn’t flex, or have much give. Mine broke off within the first 10 minutes of operation. Trying to get it replaced, but I’m afraid if it’s the same type of chute it will just do it all over again.

    • It all comes down to how many acres you are mowing per week. If you are 3 or less go with the XD. If you are 3-5 acres per week get the Fastrak. I think the XDX is really geared toward the commercial guys that want the heavier hydros and deck but need a smaller machine for small properties. • Got the XD last year in October and loved the performance of the machine. The seat does need some more padding or suspension on it I cannot use the speed capability as it beats you up even on somewhat smooth ground. Now to the dislike Hustler needs to get right with the factory blades they suck. In 15 hours, the lift section of the blades was gone and had to replace them. I know they are expendable items, but I have a 1994 Craftsman rider that I have been mowing the same property with and I replaced the blades 5 years ago and I am still mowing with that mower and those blades, just sharpen them twice a year. Come on Hustler we pay almost $5000, and they won't go past 15 hrs. Now this machine has cut my mowing time in half. The new blades have a lot of lift they are after market and shoot the cuttings a lot farther then the factory ones did. Overall, it is a great mower will get another if I need it. Your video is right on the money thank you.

As soon as I got the mower home the cylinoid was bad. Luckily the guy that delivered it was not out of the yard yet so he took it back with him. Now the hangers are broken on the back of the deck. One side the bolt is broken and the other side is laying on the deck and no parts are above it to hang it on. The bolts or rods what ever they are called just can't take the abuse of the heavy deck bouncing on them. Or is it just that i got a bad part like the battery. Battery being bad probably caused the cylinoid failure. One bolt being bad or just the nut coming off could have caused the other side to break or disconnect. No matter the problem three breakdowns in less than 25 hours is pretty damn bad.

    @jackblack2321@jackblack2321 Жыл бұрын
    • Leaking fuel is definitely NOT normal. If the fuel tank was overfilled and it is just leaking from the vent tube, then thats not an issue. But if you have any other leaks they need to be fixed ASAP as that would be a huge fire danger. The issue may be if it is leaking from the carb, there is a good chance that warranty will not cover it. Anything to due with the carb or fuel issues warranty doesn't normally cover. So your dealer will likely just have to eat the cost to repair it, but that is part of doing business. If they won't fix it, find another dealer that will. Good luck!

It basically gave me no support and referred me back to the dealer. I learned from my dealer, that Hustler sold out to BLACK AND DECKER and wiped out the entire staff. They are now HORRIBLE to work with about getting any warranty or support. I would NOT buy this brand again. I wanted a local Kansas based US based company that would stand behind their product. No fuel gauge and not even a sight hole is ridiculous. I don't think there is such a thing as the perfect mower and there is no way I'd pay for the over priced ones either just to get a fuel gauge. You think the aluminium spindles are ok ? Why don't they use the cast iron spindles seeing they are trying to sell what is regarded as a stout, built like a tank mower. It is still lacking any several departments in my opinion.

    @tonymontana897@tonymontana8973 жыл бұрын

Yes, but it would sell for $500 more than what it does now. How many customers would be willing to pay $500 more just for those features? 90% of homeowners would rather just get Raptor XD without the extra features and save $500. I think these machines are very well built/designed for the purpose and size property they are meant to maintain. My brother is a design engineer for Hustler and I can tell you they spend years working on these designs to make them work properly and hold up to long term abuse while still trying to keep cost in mind, there is no such thing as being "lazy" at Hustler. But after watching the video it's clear the title is completely misleading. You say the mower is "sharp looking." The ports on the belt covers are "very nice." The frame is "super strong." The removable floor pan is "really nice." You love the engine. Serviceability is a "piece of cake." Overall you are "really impressed" with this model.
