On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Definitely want to see more BS3. Like you, I started my DCS addiction with the original Black Shark, which was the initial module DCS launched with if i remember correctly, before A-10 came out. Been flying through Huey and the Mi-8 though recently. Unlike you though, I stayed with the helos and the ww2 warbirds. Looking forward to playing with the BS3 again, and that new auto missile defence, oh that's going to be so handy. Lost count the number of times MANPADS hidden in trees put a missile up my exhaust pipes. Recently got my VIRPIL black shark collective stick, makes flying SOOO much easier.

"Flying helis is underrated af" Ya mean underrated learning curve? :) I own the BlackShark 2 and 3, UH-1H, and Apache, been loving flying helis but only "mostly". When I bought the Apache within minutes of its release, over the next 5-7 days I was seriously considering requesting---despite the policies---a refund or exchange because it was so ridiculously difficult. Didn't wanna be a crybaby so I kept at it...... an obvious difference between Apache and Blackshark is the rotor torque in the Apache is cool up to a certain point on collective, then it's downright "aggressive". Of course it's the opposing rotation of the blades on the BlackShark that makes it so stable. If ya meant the awesome experience of flying with so much control over the flight is underrated, agree 101% :)
I just bought this and it is amazing. The cockpit is so clear in VR and so smooth. Great job to the team that did this upgrade. I am very excited to relearn this module now.
Air-ground pilots do not normally call "shack" when the weapon hits. You normally just count down and say "impact". Shack indicates that you had a direct hit on the target, a bombing range operator would call "shack" as a score vs "120@20".
KA-50s might be one of the coolest looking helicopters. Imagine if they had a jet-black paint job, too

firing from about 6-8km you can just turn off the reticle limit range for the Vikhr's. so you can fire without lining up the area and the direction of the nose. might make it easier for you so you dont have to struggle with the pedals as much. Also, when hovering you can turn on auto-turn and wherever your Shkval is aiming it will line you up in a straighter pattern automatically.
You can even fire as far as 10km with the override on and even more than that if you bring enough altitude.
How can I turn this Off?
@@joachimbrand2314 Go where you have your master arm switch, below that is a row with the jettison buttons and below that are 4 switches, flick the leftmost one up (from auto to man).

I can maaaaaaybe do something like that but I have a lot to learn before I can make a video like that

no need to activate the lower "arms" switch. its only for jettison. and set your weapons to manual, not auto. with that you can a) fire the atgm´s from farther away (when you are higher like here in the vid, they go easy 8km) b) no need to 100% line up the 2 circles. you can fire off boresight

@@GrowlingSidewinder great :-) Have fun! The manual mode is also helpful when fighting other choppers with atgm´s. when they come towards you, you can already fire from aorund 9km and they hit, as the distance closed in. gives you much more room to play with, instead waiting for the 7km mark

Having learned how to fly rotary wing in the Apache, learning the KA-50 was super easy. It's so very easy to fly and make things go boom with.

Nice sortie! The Ka50 is amazing and fun. A quick hint, the Vikhr has better range than 7km if you put the fire permission to manual, just above 8km actually which can certainly make a difference.
The key to the shark is watch those autopilot switches. They get shut off have fun getting control back.
There's a reason I put those onto my FFB2 base buttons... :D
I love these helicopter missions GS. Would love to see more if at all possible. Or maybe an Su-25 mission.

If my memory serves,you may want to override Vikhr Launch Authorization,that lets you firing Vikhrs from up to 10Km.The down side of it ,is that you have to have sufficient altitude for the missile to be able to `exchange` i.o.t. travel the distance to target.

The weapon arming you did in the beginning is actually for emergency seperating bombs for example(and maybe other, idk)

First of all, Growling Sidewinder, GREAT to see your rapid deployment of training for this beast..... really enjoy and benefit from your excellence. Anyone else surprised at the sudden appearance of this release? Like it came out of the sky....... so to speak :) I'd actually assumed it was a rumor or troll when I saw it a few months ago. Anyway, I was really happy to find I had miles enough to upgrade...... I know it's only $10 but still..... now, I've not yet read what substantiates an entire step from version II to version III but I can say there's certainly aesthetic improvements. Gotta track down the list at DCS website. I've long wondered if certain air-to-air missiles can or can't deal with ground targets via IR guidance? Can AMRAAM's deal with RADAR units on the ground, etc. Could an Igla deal with a tank, etc.

Some Ka-50 videos sound like fun.
With some skins you can even see on the nose a cat paws pattern. Looks like kitties like big fishes.
You can launch much further if you use it in manual with a little speed. I think up to 12k.
Helicopters are definitly cool. I personally are very into Air to Ground stuff. Air to Air is just Stress ;D.

At around 4 minutes in, were they really lighting you up though? I've noticed with the missile warning systems in both this and the apache it'll go off on any missile. Could be an anti tank missile ground forces are throwing at each other, missile low altitude aircraft are throwing at each other, or any other kind of missile launch for that matter, whether directed at you or not.
You should get into the habit of turning the laser on and off, you only have so many minutes before it overheats

@@GrowlingSidewinder There's several factors like how long you let it cool after each use, but generally its common to have it fail on a second attack run after rearming if you arent turning it off when not ranging or firing

@@steffennilsen2132 yea', I heard so, I use to turn the laser from *standby* to *off* once I'm turning cold from ground units. also, as mentioned, by turning weapon control to manual, you can start engaging from 7+ kms. Just to get a headstart.

Always a great vid, but is the real Hokum really as good as this vid appears to make it? That was like watching GS shoot fish in a barrel, with little to no resistance. Be nice to try and see if the Hokum can do its thing as well in a contested airspace...

Watched Top Gun Maverick yesterday. Had a grin all the way from start to finish. One thing I wanted to ask you though. They were using flares against radar SAMs. Any idea why and how was it so effective since they dodged like 20 missiles?

Why don't you fly backwards? When you get too close, just backup. You don't have to turn around and fly back. One of the great things about helicopters. :)

Firing rockets towards some vague direction and hoping for the best. That's pure Russian authenticity right there.
That and throw bodies at the bullets because eventually the enemy MUST run out of them at some point.
Not quite, it's actually a method of launching rockets over distance (like MLRS) to not get obliterated by manpads. Helis are far too vulnerable against a well armed enemy.

You can lock on with uncage Shkval and get precise rocket aiming computed point. Apache can't even do that.
It’s called ‘saturation fire’, the same thing standard artillery tries to achieve. Find the enemy and cover him with steel rain.
If this is a SP Mission, would you mind shareing it? :) BTW: 8 Km is the max range of a Vikhr. If you´re up high even a little bit more...

Where do you get these A/G missions? Do you build them yourself in the editor? If so, then you would know the enemy positions beforehand. Can these A/G missions be randomly generated (outside of DCS liberation)?

There wasn't much that wasn't working with Black Shark 2. Cargo slinging and air to air and a few nore bits and pieces. These now work on BS3, and yeah, the ejection system has always worked.

Anyone know more about the Russian missile defense system on the helos? Is it an active radar, or laser detector of launches? I'm digging and trying to find a designation for it's defense package so far no joy.
