On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

The Ka-50 is just such a cool and unique helicopter. It was my first module for DCS too and even without pouring a ton of hours into it you could immediately tell why there's not many other single-seat attack helicopters.

@@delta9990 I don’t have the Ka-50, but in my experience just doing either the flying or systems operation on a Hind is more than enough, and I can’t imagine trying to operate it all at once.
KA-50 is an amazing helicopter but I think it would shows it full potential if it was two seater. AH-6 is the perfect single-seat attack helicopter. It is agile and it would maneuver any terrain like a dragonfly.

Maybe after the conflict some captured Ka-52s could lead to such a thing. I know Egypt also has Ka-52s, so even a lesser export model could be amazing.

There was a Russian movie about the Spetnaz ops in Chechnya where the Ka50 was shown literally flying rooftop level house to house and sniping off rebels with its cannon

I knew a vet who flew the cobra in Vietnam and was shot down three times in one day. He did a lot of what you were doing in this video. Sneaking up on the enemy, striking, and trying to survive. Love your videos

Nice flying. I'm trying out the KA-50 myself and having a ball. It's been a while but it flies great.
It'd be great to see more like this, ground attack missions against what we'd consider powerful militaries (like Sweden, US, UK, Germany etc) from the Russian perspective in DCS. I'm always going to love watching A-10s go off because who doesn't, but birds like the Ka-50 and the Su-25 get slept on sometimes I feel, and they're really enjoyable aircraft to fly and watch.
I really enjoy watching you dominate most of your engagements. With that being said, I have to admit, watching you get splattered several times in a row while you learn is also fun to watch. LOL

Good video. You’ve convinced me to pick up the Hokum. The Kola map will be great fun for sure. Flying out from Sweden, across Finland, and into Russia will be a cool mission. May be a bit far for the Viggen, but the Mudhen would do it just fine. TFR through the fog and strike in Russia.

When I saw the title I was hoping for a preview of the Koala-map 😀, but I guess it was the Caucasus, most similar to Sweden. Thanks for the video, it was fun to see the action. I was surprised to find out that Sweden has Patriot-missiles as air defense these days. I was a system technician on the Hawk-system when I did the military service in Sweden in 1995. Good thing they have upgraded since 🙂

That landing! So close! How do you feel about the survivability of an attack heli in modern warfare environment? I feel like it would be terrifying to go into battle with one of these. Unguided RPG's were terrifying enough as a heli pilot.

does DCS have a suppression system? as in, im pretty sure when you come in guns blazing there has to be some sort of delay in response and decreased ability to reload and fire back. Soldiers may be brave, but a ground assault can be a pretty daunting prospect, when explosions shake the ground under your feet, fire burns around you and you've seen your friends dying close by. it's like in RPGs, when you can fight like a pro even when at 1% health lol

Pilot is protected against AP .50 from frontal arch in ka-50 and mi-28 If I remember correctly not only from .50 but all the way up to 23mm AA rounds
Very nice, GS. I fly drones and play mostly combined warfare scenarios on Arma 3 but have been following your videos for sometime now. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on DCS but was wondering if my CH Products Combo of Fighter Stick, Pro Throttle & Pro Pedals will be sufficient as an entry level interim setup for DCS while I earn my wings ??
I fly with a ps4 controller and a keyboard and it doesnt limit me in any way. What you have is enough to do anything you wish in dcs with any module.

Every one says the ka52 having a ejection seat is worthless. But I can imagine a billion scenarios where the ejection could be needed
Yepp. For example it would be useful as a chair at the Russian airbase canteen, since in real combat, helis are forced to fly extra low and extra fast, so there is no time for ejection at all.
Well i know i fly shark in dcs only so i can not compare that experience to real life scenarios, but i do eject most of the times when my shark gets destroyed and yes, i do fly low at the treetop levels. Guess its skill issue.

MANPADs don’t attack tanks
With aircraft a lot of the talk is always about missiles, since better missiles often is even more important than better plane. What about helicopters? Seems to me something like a Hellfire (9kg warhead on 49kg total missile, so 40kg/80% to bring the warhead where it needs to go) even compared to something as short ranged as a Sidewinder (9kg warhead on 85kg total missile, 76kg/90%) won't be able to compete. An AMRAAM (20kg, 160kg total) or HARM (68kg, 361kg total) is in a totally different league. Plus aircraft would fire from much greater altitudes and at higer speeds. Are attack helicopters basically restricted to attacks on undefended/nearly undefended targets or taking enourmous risks due to their limited engagement range? Are there any longer ranged missiles for helicopters? Maybe some weird Soviet designs (after all they love missiles)?
I believe one difference in helicopter armament is the burn rate. Since these missiles aren't chasing after other aircraft potentially moving at upwards of mach speeds, they don't need to be nearly as fast as a Sidewinder or AMRAAM. Since they have a lower burn rate, they may be slower, but their total burn time is much longer, resulting in increased ranges.
Ka-50 can take two Kh-25, 140kg warhead each. Range is still around 10km though. Helicopters are limited to visual range anyway, so there's a little sense to give them anything with more range than 15-20km
From my understanding the Swedes have a few unique problems for any airforce that decides to descend upon them. LvKv 90 IRIS-T-SLS BV 410 Swedish artilery is nothing to scoff at either Bkan 1C Archer They can laydown some hurt
the only problem I have with the ka-50 is the iglas not doing much damage. I get its a smaller warhead but 4 wont take down any heli. other than that, I love it.

Great video. Shows how vulnerable any helicopter is in face of decent air defence. Idea: why don't they make small anti radiation missile the size of ATGM but with passive seeker? Imagine saturating area in front with it before moving in.
Won't help against manpads and short range SAMs with IR search and track.

How are you launching those Vikhr missiles without putting that big circle on top of your target circle? I thought you had to line both of the circles up before you could fire?
I learned that if you flip them to manual instead of automatic on the front console you don’t need to line it up

Use a team of four black sharks with 2 aircraft split into A and B. Use pincher attacks on missile defense systems. Kill probability will go up; and being shot down will go down.

The third BS3 module. BS1 was the original, then BS2, BS3 added the laser warning system, the Iglas and better resolution cockpit and skins.

the first sequence of the ejection is rotor blades coming off, or "exploding off" and then the ejection seat firing.
