  • Those motors are reversible outside of software, you just need to re-order the pins of the hall-effect sensor as well as swapping around the blue/green wires. It was being so weird because it was trying to spin, and the sensors report that the motor is spinning the wrong direction so the controller freaks out.

Its cheaper than some kits i have seen but least for me i dont have extra income to throw 1.5k for racing go cart and 2K for electric setup, when you can get really good daily driver for that price and proper road legal dirtbike or get small diesel crate engine into cross cart frame, witch will beat this in utility in any day.

  • The best thing about these little builds is how approachable they seem. Like a motorcycle engine might be cheap and easy to obtain, but it's so friggin' heavy compared to a small electric motor and battery you could almost slap on anything with wheels in a couple of days and get obscene speeds. (well, assuming your motor controller isn't the wrong way around... Also: Edited for typos I didn't notice originally...)

    @TheRealAlpha2@TheRealAlpha25 ай бұрын
    • I wonder how much the motor and battery weighs compared to the 2-stroke engine a fuel tank. For something this small there probably isn’t much difference

      @AussieDaz87@AussieDaz875 ай бұрын
    • @@AussieDaz87I'd imagine the weight of this electric setup is probably really close to like 125 or 250 2 stroke engine with the flywheel/stator attached (45-55lbs). However, the torque that this electric motor can instantaneously produce makes the beefy powerband of a 2 stroke feel like a 49cc gas engine in comparison. Seriously, anyone who rides bikes or karts owes it to themselves to try out a comparable electric powered setup. The G's you'll pull with good traction will blow your mind.

      @maynarddrivesfast804@maynarddrivesfast8045 ай бұрын

  • Guys! When you want to reverse the direction, you need to change two phase wires and two wires of the hall sensors if you want to do it the "long" way. The short way is to reprogram the controller (as you mentioned), changing the correct setting (indicated on the programming software) will make the motor spin the other way. Trust me, I've done it both ways.

    @OverbuiltByHenry@OverbuiltByHenry5 ай бұрын
    • surely the company they contacted suggested that first

      @rendaddy_@rendaddy_5 ай бұрын
    • @@rendaddy_ Just the way 3 phase motor works, that would be the solution. The fact that they didn't suggest it means that they didn't know or didn't want any mixed wires. All they will do is connect the controller to a computer and program it the correct direction. All my cheap controllers can work by switching the wires and my decent ones can very easily be programmed via adapter and USB cable. This is universal.

      @esqueue@esqueue5 ай бұрын
    • @@esqueue I'm guessing it's a liability thing. It's far safer to say send the controller back, that minimises the risk of damaging hardware and having other people see the video and hot wiring their own motors.

    • @@eliangreatrick6620 sure. I purchased 4kw / 14kw peak bldc motor kit. It's 72v nominal 200A peak. It was designed for motorcycle conversions but it can be used for go kart. All I had to do was to purchase a 0-5v throttle. The hardest part was to make the motor mount. I don't have CAD plasma cutter like these guys lol. Battery was easy for me. I am using LFP Headway 38120HP cells 24s2p pack. Let me know if you need help.

  • The reverse of the motor can absolutely be done, you just need to swap the phase wires AND do the same on the hall sensor cable.
