This fight has to be ran back. A controversial 10-8 to keep the belt in the champ when Valentina has been so dominant the rematch needs to happen. Valentina gets screwed over to much. She won the second fight with nunes regardless of what people say.

I would rather see Erin fight Grasso than see a Shev trilogy. The Grasso-Shev fight was awesome, and I could probably enjoy seeing them fight 100 times in a row, but putting one fight in between (a chaser if you like) would be better for the flyweight division.

Erin beats either. I was very impressed with Grasso's ability to get the fight back on the feet but neither will be able to do that against Erin.
@@jackblah5842lol no. She couldnt land a single takedown against Talia of the 16 she attempted. Shevchenko has good ground game and it is an expert to take her opponents to the ground and Alexa is good at getting out of submissions. As long as Valentina and Grasso dont allow Blanchfield to submit them, both of them would pierce Blanchfield on the striking department. Blanchfield was barely surviving against Talia.

From a practical view, they’re both basically identical in rank and they both just fought within the last 2 months. Look at their last 3 fights: Blanchfield - Santos (#4 FW), Andrade (#6 FW), McCann (Unranked) Fiorot - Namajunas (#2 SW), Chookagian (#5 FW), Maia (#9 FW) Plus Fiorot is a decade older, and has been in the UFC for almost a year longer, where both fighters have 6-0 records in their UFC careers!

Not big on these selective mandatory trilogies, but I'd like to see Erin fight one more before a title shot.
I'll go one further. I think immediate rematches should be very rare. It not only holds up fights but eliminates them altogether. More than that it contradicts the message that we actually have a new champion. If the division is full of nobodies and its super close and had huge numbers and would do huge numbers again - rematch that. Otherwise, skip the rematches. Would also like to see Erin win one more quality fight.
This one would not be selective, a draw in any combat sport world title bout means an immediate rematch. I like Erin but they have to run this fight again. The reason is the championship is now disputed due to a draw. Grasso retains the title but did not win the bout and Shevchenko has a dispute to the championship. Erin should be the backup for the 3rd fight in case something happens but no one should fight until the championship is settled.

@@joesalyers Those are great points. I could refine my opinion by saying "rematches" rather than "trilogies", although one can lead to another. I can see how this situation is deserving of an immediate rematch given the circumstances.
@@SetAside777I agree most rematches are not needed but in this case the fight was a tie/draw you have to settle the outcome because of the championship. Grasso is now a disputed world champion not the undisputed champion, and this is similar to having an interim champion. If this were boxing both would be considered the world champion and a bout to unify the title would be in order. Cool little bit of fighting history is that in the early days of boxing 1900-1921 if a championship fight ended in a draw the NYSAC title and National Boxing Association (precursor to the WBA) title was made vacant until the 2 fighters could face each other again and then from 1921-1933 they would call them Co-Champions but it was considered confusing to the public so they began to just let the Champion retain the title but call it a disputed championship. Because of this the term Lineal champion begins to be used with Ring Magazine in 1922. But yea I agree most rematches aren't warranted but the UFC like those rematch dollars LOL!!!

Ya and that's amazing she broke it in the first round and with one hand and was able to box Alex's face off with jabs for most of the 5th...and make sense why she went to only elbows with that other arm. She's a bit undersized and getting up there in age as well as girls FINALLY catching up in skill, I will be amazed if she gets her belt back before she retires. I think that mounted guillotine she had in the 3rd round that was REALLY DEEP if she had two hands she would have put her to sleep and if not easily would have been able to do massive damage from mount, but with only one hand it's impossible to hold positions on top and fish for submissions and ground and pound. She did leave it all out there though...
Ya that would be best for Valentina anyhow. Let Grasso focus on another opponent and try again or fight a new opponent for the belt.

@@georgecoull1883 of course I watch the fight and I don't agree with the 10 -8 rnd but I can also argue that 2 of the judges got rnd 4 wrong, also Grasso has the most significant moments in the fight from the knock down in rnd 2 and finishing stron in the 5th rnd almost nearly submitting Valentina, valentina had a moment in rnd 3 and point fought the rest of the fight, and went for the take down in the fifth when she could of won the rnd with her jab in the 5th but instead valentina tried to lay and pray Grasso to end the fight but that didnt work in her favor, either way I'm just happy the Belt when home with the right person! money talks! #Andstill! Yeah, Val was on her way to 49-46 until her back was taken in R5 so she should have won 48-47 with R1,3 & 4. In R4 some people only remember her questionable knees which is why they gave it to Grasso, but she was eating shots & most of the visible damage on her happened in R4. Mike Bell realised that the Mexican champ would lose the fight & (custom) belt at the Mexican Independence Day event & he didn't want to spoil the party. Trilogy next, with Erin v Manon on the card for the clearest dibbs.

Its amazing how everyone sees different things in that fight. Taking out of account the fact that sadly many are biased, you find interesting perspectives. In my unbiased opinion, the totality of the fight i believe Valentina won based on scoring with all the jabs, the damage and the elbow that split her wide open, the third round which was the most dominant round from either fighter in which Valentina dominated from bell to bell and also nearly finished her with a mounted guillotine, however.... The rounds were mostly very close and even the round Valentina got "dropped" in, she was already going backwards and off balance which is why she backflipped to her feet, but even then she almost immediately double leg takedown Alexa and controlled her the rest of the round. Thing is even while Valentina was CLEARLY more skilled, the age and fact alexa is so tough and unlimited gas tank, plus valentina seemingly smaller like she usually is I think it's all finally caught up and Valentina rain is over. I can't scream "robbery" the fifth is a 10-8 in...no world lol, but even worse is the other 10-8 they had which...what? Because if that's true then 10000% valentina 10-8 for herself in round 3 if you watch it she controlled entire round and almost finished her....so if the 5th is a 10-8 for alexa then the 3rd is surely a 10-8 for valentina. But in the end i think a draw as a SCORE isn't.. bad even though it's bad how it got to that. People would be mad on both sides if either won especially with Mexican independence day and the fact it wasn't SUPER clear. Lastly the fact Valentina broke her finger in the First round says a lot as I was wondering why she was only throwing 1's and no 1 2's but how amazing with one hand she jabbed her face off for 3 minutes of round 5? That division is stacked and honestly I'll be amazed if Valentina can beat someone like fiorot if they make her fight one more before a shot again and if she us able to get her title back at almost 36 with those killers there now...wow. Congrats to alexa she is a warrior.

The title is now disputed thats what happens in combat sports when a split Draw happens, a majority draw is a bit different. Erin should be the backup for the 3rd fight but since the title bout ended in a draw both ladies can lay claim to being the champion so it MUST be settled. Shevchenko has just as much claim to the title as Grasso right now just because one of them took the belt home means nothing. So we will see part 3 in January or February.

You are correct. With the fiasco of the 10-8 round, Shevchenko should get the opportunity next if she wants it. She doesn't have much time. But if she does choose to hang around for a couple more years, I really don't think the UFC wants any of their up and coming "golden girls" stepping into the octagon with the Bullet. --- as an aside: If it takes a ridiculous 10-8 5th round to squeak out a draw, you lost the fight.

It was a close fight and a good fight, but a 10-8 for Grasso in the 5th round is idiotic. I could possibly see someone giving Grasso the 5th maybe, but no possible way is it a 10-8. Valentina controlled the first 3-1/2 minutes of the 5th round while they were standing and then Grasso controlled the last 1 - 1-1/2 minutes on the ground.

I must be fucking insane because I don't understand how are people calling this a robbery. It was an amazingly fun back to back fight between these two warriors, but Grasso performed better. Valentina was able to get her back for marginally more time, but she couldn't do much with that.

The biggest losers of that fight was the stacked ass flyweight contenders. WFLW is the most stacked division in the UFC right now, and I do believe Shevchenko and Grasso should rematch, either that or Grasso fights while Valentina's tumb heals, and Valentina returns against the winner of that fight. After seeing grassos solid ground game last night I’m not convinced Erin can get the job done especially knowing the striking difference…erin can definitely go get that very easy bantamweight belt in the mean time if she wanted too. Peña is so embarrassing to watch…most 125ers do her just as badly as Nunes did.
If santos pieced Erin up like that, then so will Grasso. She should fight one more time.
Grasso tends to slow down after she been taken down and forced to defensively grapple. She became very flat footed last night after Shev started to land more takedowns which allowed Shev to pop her with the jab. With tight defense, Erin can pressure Grasso against the cage and control her in the clench and wear her down. It’s a close match up but I think Erin can win.
@@kingtaylor9362 It’s not guaranteed but if Erin can take shots from Santos and control her clench, then she has a good chance against Grasso. Santo hits harder and is more physically imposing than Grasso. Once Grasso gets tired, her boxing is not as Crisp and she starts throwing single punches. With a pressure fighter like Erin, Grasso would have to keep up the combos to get Erin off her.

I think Grasso gave no complaints to doing the rematch and for her effort was told nobody cared to see her fight and she had no choice. Really? She's a Mexican champ who's now fought Shevchenko twice. I say give no hard answer but be clear that she'd rather not do the trilogy at this time wanting to have one non-Shevchenko before doing a trilogy (assuming Shevchenko does a non-Grasso fight in the meantime as well). What is the UFC going to do? Strip the title from her? Really? Just don't give a hard answer but be clear and consistent at the same time. The UFC deserves this given they held the event in Mexico and did an immediate rematch saying that what she did, a clear win over Shevchenko, didn't matter.
