Unpopular opinion, but I think if a championship fight is a draw, then the title should become vacant. Why should the champ retain the belt if they don't actually defend it?

What was weird in the 5th was this: Val Dominated the striking, then gifted Alexa the takedown by goofing up what was going to be a fight-sealing takedown on Valentina’s part. My first thought was she slipped through Shevchenko’s grasp because of her blood. Second look indicated Val kinda blew it. Still, no way that was a 10-8 round.
Yep, Val definitely slipped as you rundown again. But then again, if round 3 was 9-10 where the Val nearly submitted Alexa, same judge scoring 10-8 for round 5 is absolutely insane.

Grasso’s advantage is she is good at Everything. Funny thing is, Valentina didn’t even have to try that takedown. She was picking her apart on the feet. Great fight, but losing it because of a 10-8 round…. They need to have a trilogy.

But nope, she went to the grappling, specifically the head and arm throw… twice now she’s tried to grapple Alexa, twice she’s been shown who the boss is. The bookies didn't wanna pay out all the people that got in on Shevchenko at + money live 100% this is one of those fights that further solidifies the link between the athletic and gambling commissions, no way they didn't communicate how much was at stake to lose if that one judge didn't flub the scorecards by putting a 10-8 for Grasso in R5 and make it a draw (which essentially voids all bets and refunds everyone their money INSTEAD OF PAYING THEM ON THEIR WIN)

She definitely WASN'T a grounded opponent. Fingers or even one full hand touching the mat doesn't constitute a grounded opponent.

There was definitely something off about the event based off a couple of these fights.
I think the way to fix the judging is have judges do press conferences like fighters. Not all the time but I just want to hear them think. Maybe have some sort of voting method where if everyone is in agreement that a judge fucked up, they get fined 10k. Imo, thatll never happen...judges are definitely paid off. Giving Grasso 10-8 in the 5th for a split draw so Alexa remains champ is all the proof I need

These are pulled from the Unified Rules of MMA: “A score of 10 - 8 does not require a fighter to dominate their opponent for 5 minutes of a round.” Furthermore, “Judges must CONSIDER giving the score of 10 - 8 when a fighter shows dominance in the round even though no impactful scoring against the opponent was achieved.” Lastly, “Dominance in the grappling phase can be seen by fighters taking DOMINANT POSITIONS in the fight and utilizing those positions to attempt fight ending submissions or attacks.” Mike Bell was well within his right to score the last round a 10-8.
A gift is how you get a simple leg trip and hold for the entire round and they give you a 10-9 for that. They should start standing her up more

I had it a draw round 2 was a 10 -8. Valentina got dropped then got knee clean like 5 times then got beat on the floor. Grasso was taken down but got up almost every time and didn’t take to much damage on the floor

my analysis was this. Going into the fifth, I was stuck between two possibilities both very viable: I had an inkling it was 3 to 1 Shevchenko going into the fifth. I had her narrowly winning all rounds besides round two, which was Grasso clear. However, the rounds were so razor close besides round three and one that I could have also seen it being two and two, Grasso stealing the fifth round but definitely not a 10-8. so I basically think that either person could’ve been the winner of the fight, but no way was it a draw. if it was two and two, Grasso should’ve won the fight, because I think she won round five. take down, submission attempts, ground and pound and ground control time. only argument I can maybe see is that it took her three minutes to secure that position, but the sequence had more involved than Shevchenko did on the feet in that round. but if it was 3-1 going into the fifth, Grasso would’ve needed a finish to win. Therefore, Valentina won the fight. I would’ve been satisfied with either of these options as both make sense, but a draw is a ball buster 💀

the scoring system really should change though. 9-9 or 10-10 for rounds so close you can't tell 10-9 for rounds where one person won a round, but it wasn't dominant 10-8 for rounds where theres someone who very very clearly won the round 10-7 for if you were so dominant the fight should have been stopped.... something like that.
The judges needs to be made to answer for how they score cards in press conferences or something. This will help stop such nonsense scoring

nah, if you take away score cards and just look at fight a draw isn't a robbery, debatable but not a robbery. You can say grasso takes second and fifth, valentina takes first and third, 4th is a cointoss so draw is ok, no one wants a draw obviously but i can see apart from the 10 - 8 controversy why it happened.

Alexa won but it was close fight. I definitely had Alexa winning the round she drop Valentina and the round where she hit her with multiple knees and finished it in a heel hook position. Valentina was dominating the fifth but she decided to grapple which ended up grasso taking her back. That lost her the fifth. Valentina was getting takedowns but didn’t do anything with them.

Truly one of the worst judging calls let alone the context of the fighters, belt, round and location to go with it. The Bullet will always be a true champion of the UFC and the Martial Arts world, always professional and a true talent.
