Pokemon is generally a family friendly series, but every once in a while, some adult moments are snuck in that are surprisingly mature given Pokemon's reputation. Today we are going to be looking at ten such examples, when Pokemon ended up getting VERY adult.

The possible Protect innuendo in X and Y makes me wonder how Japan talks about contraception? In Japanese, the move is called "Mamoru," which I've at least always known as protecting a someone or something from danger; akin to protecting your lord as a knight or samurai. It is possible that they do still use "mamoru" for contraception, however. Though, it is also possible that that they didn't really think of it in the first place in the Japanese version, so the localizers are the ones who took it upon themselves to innuendoize it.

The one scene that made me watch the whole Kalos series came from the Mega Evolution specials, right at the end, as I watched in disbelief that... They sent a pokémon into a coma. Don't wanna spoil too much, since specials may not be very well known, but damn. That was something I didn't expect from the series.

I remember the manga back in the day. There were 2 versions. And the dark one was definitely not for children. lol It got pretty intense.
I will never forget Press A to Pound from Sun and Moon
I wish they were more adult tbh. It’s way too clean now. I miss the Indigo League days when roasting and adult humour was common. Modern Pokemon is way too Disneyfied. As far as dark, I would say like I did in the old video that Cyrus’ backstory is dark as Hell. The dude, if you really think about it, basically killed himself. Unlike Lysandre, on purpose since he chose to stay in the Distortion World. I think his story is even darker than Guzma’s, who was covered in the last video. Especially since you have to talk to his grieving grandfather who basically regrets not having helped him when he needed it most/wonders what happened to him. And you KNOW what happened to Cyrus. That’s heavy as fuck. ;-;
What about the Ultra Ruin in USUM, a post apocalyptic Hau'oli City where humans had damaged the planet so much they left towards other dimensions, and if you talk to the guy in the hazmat suit, he'll tell you all about the world. Half the Pokedex entries. There are plenty of dark moments
Too Disneyfied? You clearly don't watch Disney. Pokemon is waaay more tame than Disney has ever been. The manga might rival Disney. but the games and anime are more tame than Disney.
@@Kikan319 ...You've clearly never played BW
Can't help it. World has too many karens right now. And way too many political correctness. Even the pokemon company has to play ball if they don't want to get burned. The more fame and audience you gain around the world, the more restriction you will eventually have to shoulder.
@@dwad8710 you're kidding right? Disney has a very long history of putting extremely adult jokes and references in their films. And that's not even to mention the (very inappropriate for ANY age) early cartoons that were often literal propaganda, with a dash of racism. Obviously, Disney will always be a company "for kids", but they have never shied away from including very adult subjects.

There’s also this line from Sun and Moon spoken by a male swimmer: “Birds fly and their droppings fall. Ah, the beauty of nature” and this isn’t the only poop joke when you realize that people used to stuff Darumaka turds into their clothes to keep warm!
The poké-love thing was touched on by someone at GF. It was explained that the Pokémon world runs basically parallel to our own. It is NOT earth, and their morals and ethics are different, even if mostly only *slightly*. Human x Pokémon pairs happen from time to time but aren't generally given any more attention than anyone else, as long as they behave themselves in public (the Japanese are fairly reserved in public when it comes to displays of affection compared to the west). It's still a funny headline, though.
Is human-pokemon relationships an allusion to being LGBT or something omg
Nothing sexual, but I also want to bring up something from Adventures. In the XY arc, Lysandre's death is pretty graphic for younger viewers. In that he falls from Zygarde onto sharp rubble, potentially getting impaled from behind (with Malva just censoring the worst of it). He promptly dies in a pool of his own blood. It's one of the few human deaths in the series, and certainly the most graphic. (Norman is RS is another one, tho he dies before Maxie burns him, in full view of his son, might I add. It's also later undone.)
Maxie himself is implied to have been MURDERED by Archie at one point.
@@michaelcarlton1484 Offscreen, but yup. It's surprising he's willing to work with Archie in the ORAS chapter when they're brought back, but I guess there's bigger issues at hand.
@@13CrystalHeart Courtney also dies in the manga as well. Flannery is also beaten by either Magma or Aqua members(don't remember which) and then tied up and locked in the cable car.
@@haydenlaw1484 Oh yeah, her and May were also nearly drowned/fed to a Sharpedo by Matt. (I kinda forgot about Courtney ig. Hers was offscreen iirc.)
@@13CrystalHeart I think she gets impaled by a stalagmite. And then the cave collapses on top of her.(If I'm remembering that right.) Steven Stone also dies from exerting effort to control one of the Regis( don't remember if it's Regirock or Registeel).

Meh too!😇😇😇😇
You're totally right. Lots of manga in Japan is a lot more graphic than the anime. Keeping in mind that the anime is also made for Japan, it's not like they're toning it down with foreign audiences in mind. I'm thinking of Naruto right now. In the Chunin exam arc there's a scene with Shino vs that sound ninja guy. In the anime a bunch of holes are blown into his arm and the arm is shown bleeding. In the manga, there is an explosion which blows his arm in half severing it completely. Shit's wild.
Not even a minute in and I already started nodding in agreement. Yes, Pokemon manga is *very overlooked.* Glad I read it though. The best Pokemon content I've ever consumed.
9:03 you could interpret this scene as the old dude was interested in Ash, and the latter used Misty as a shield.
The golden balls thing had me laughing so hard because me and my little brother have the same connection to nuggets as the Japanese do with golden balls. When we were little, we used to called our testicles "golden chicken nuggets" for some reason, so either way it's a reference for us
Look at Brock's body language when the old man is creeping on Misty. He's like "Square up"

About as long* The first one is on par with the Japanese version of Diamond & Pearl with them mentioning pokemon marrying humans. School of Hard Knocks is the only time Ash is shown to be flustered by a girl, that I can recall. Honestly I wanna include the multiple times they used that gambling machine on par with "adult stuff" since up to the point of Journeys, the anime never had gambling in it yet they seem to get rid of it in the games.
The old guy in the Life's a Beach episode also has his walking cane held in a very suggestive way/angle, alluding to how "excited" Misty made him. Yikes!
It's funny because I watched the first part yesterday and now, you make a second one...

Wow, I didn’t know Brock was such a creep.
I've watched this and part one, and I'm surprised that there's no mention of Mr. Bonding from XY. Dude's creepy as shit. You: a kid in the game, meeting a grown man next to a bed in hotel rooms. Each time, he would say 'Let's get started, shall we? It's bonding time!', screen turns black for a moment, then he gives you the O-Power before he leaves the room first. Sometimes, he's at Pokemon Centers too, at a corner facing.. well, the corner.
pokephilia has been all but confirmed to be canon for YEARS,now. in the japanese version of "Sinnoh Folk Story 3" it flat out states that humans and pokemon used to get married and there have been times in the anime where pokemon fall in love with their trainer (including jame's mareanie who straight up imagines marring him, wedding attire and all). so ya,this shit happens but honestly it's totally fine because pokemon are NOT animals: they're MONSTERS (mini kaiju to be exact) and some of them are WAY smarter than any human, anyway so the ability to consent is not a issue here.
