    • @0:15 Reactionary. One's inherent freedom to oppress others freedom. Show confidence than you will be bullied by the bullies (the psychopaths). So society demands you to be less. "Modesty". Under preform. To be invisible from the psychopaths to avoid being bullied. Why do the bullies bully. They always do this defence mechanism of break the "others" stick to make theirs bigger. Bully the smart so they can get ahead. Corruption, gambling, conning, and scheming. All the intention of making the smart people their victim. The Ego a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance. Not to be confused with with confidence; the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. A math formula tested, and predicted its outcome. Why does the ego attack confidence, something tested, proven, then predictable.

  • The ego: adding music to a lecture, somehow believing it needs something beyond the simple truth it contains. Language is an art in its own right, like philosophy, but today everything has to have more, 'be' more. People can't walk down the street with their own thoughts, hearing the sound of their feet and the things around them. Everyone is wearing earbuds, or on their phone, engaged in a reality outside themselves. Words are powerful on their own, but when someone adds music to it thinking they are making it 'better', they are in fact taking something very important away. Listen to Watts and enjoy the silence between the words and phrases. It is important to do this without music.

    • @Denny Morales I'm not the problem, I pointed out the problem. If someone is in a museum observing the Mona Lisa, and someone else comes in and scribbles crayon across its face in an attempt to 'improve' it, is that the fault of the observer? Does he object because of his ego? Does he object because he, "likes to think others are messing things up and he is perfect"? And should he "stop blaming outside circumstances" because that is "feeding his ego" and simply enjoy the new crayon-defaced Mona Lisa?

      @antennawilde@antennawilde2 жыл бұрын

    • Surrendering emotions to fate is an interesting way of putting things. Now it depends on what you aimed to convey. Emotions can turn you into a slave without you even realising it. They can be strongly related to the ego, especially when it comes to anger or love, therefore it is better to observe and analyse our feelings and understand them so as we stand a chance at gaining some control over them.

  • We humans evolved from primal self-awareness, to self-consciousness. This change came with existential dilemmas-with questions “why?” Like eyes that once could see without seeing themselves see, our primal sense of self was without question; a matter of spontaneous such-ness. By natural intuitions and unquestioned faith alone, we went with the flow of existence. Voluntary/involuntary action (like breathing) were inseparable opposites, arbitrarily distinct, working together unconsciously-‘doing without doing’- as a unity in polarity. Our human organism, and the environment that grew it, were simultaneously two in one experience. With self-consciousness came the sense of self as separate and alone in a world not of its own making. We went from ‘letting our existence be,’ to questioning and controlling it. Existential angst.

  • The *ego* is a compressed [put in a box and limited] perception of who you *think* you are; again, based on what limited knowledge you have. It is said that consciousness is - in fact - by definition: a state of ignorance! As to Watts's definition of the ego, I differ: - the ego is an unseen physical construct that develops over time. In fact, I would compare it to the growth of a tree or plant: the ego is dependent on two things, *a)* starting from childhood... every act you partake in; every course or path you take - including: prayer, sleep, meditation, studying a subject to specialize in, going to a party, who you have or don't have sex with - this creates a physical root system in time itself. In other words, your actions that are reliant upon the *heart* to *physically* move through existence. *b)* the second dependent factor of the ego is *the brain,* which I would compare to *the branches* and *leaves* of a *tree/plant.* So, first you have the heart [that *DOES* represent *the SOUL* ] , which allows your *image* a.k.a. your *PHYSICAL BODY* to navigate existence - in turn, you create pathways in the brain - referred to as *LEARNING.* These new pathways in the brain, i.e. neurons and their connections, wouldn't exist without first having the heart allowing us to create those pathways. And I would liken these neural pathways as branches and leaves of a tree. Both the heart and the brain combine to create the ego - not the physical heart and brain, since these are merely hardware; like engine parts, that would be useless without the fuel/gas and electrical stimulus; the gas and electrical stimulus are comparable to *breath.* The difficulty with the ego is that it transcends into consciousness itself; and we all know how difficult it is to define consciousness. Like consciousness, the ego is aethereal; and, though the ego is subject to change, it has a permanent signature from moment to moment. I am sure people have no idea what I am talking about(the last sentence, specifically). I would simplify and summate the definition of the ego to this: the ego is primarily the compression and rarefaction of *survival of the self* ; it then *transcends the self, as consciousness* - of which, *we all share.*

Just check it on the medias, such as KZhead, how much it has become something "great" to enhance oneself, to upgrade oneself through an alter ego... To split oneself further more... We really live in a crazy world.

  • Ego is not something we have but is something that is if identification with "I thought" exists. If no identication exists then no ego exists. Enlightement is recognizing that you are not "I thought". You do that simply by not thinking in your everyday life until you see it clearly. It happens automatically from not thinking.

      @FistOfHatred@FistOfHatred2 жыл бұрын
    • @@FistOfHatred ego death is to be a monk in short. ego death is deactivate the concious mind, which is yourself, your desires, who you think u are completely. being in a state of the soul which is enternal, always being now, but witout any personal journey. it isnt something that your concious(yourself) will like it to be because its beyond yourself. u can take yourself to be in new or different self journey in life, if u quest and learn about your mind, how it work, concious and subconcious mind, beliefs, habits, surrounding and alot more. the first step is redefine who you think u are and your relationship the universe/subconcious/spirit that will help u throw your journy. if u want to learn more about the truth about theself(ego death) hear allan wats lectures. if u want to redefine and recreate yourself listen to people like bruce lipton, bob proctor, and books like the power of your subconcious mind, law of attraction etc. good luck

    • @@chuka10 You seem to have knowledge on this. Is it possible to create such an outcome through LSD? A few years back I was in a bad trip with multiple substances and I just sat in my head, thinking about all of my bad choices, how I looked, if I will ever amount to what I want to be worth, although my emotions constantly paralyzed me, stopping me from pursuing. Then I decided to just tell it to go away, to leave me alone, for a few minutes I was saying it, feeling the emotions grow stronger and then out nowhere it was silence, calm, center. Ever since then my mind is silent unless I try to search through it manually or if trauma triggers it. It’s like my brain is skipping the step of translating into words, instead of words I can feel it. I can’t see pictures either, only happened once on LSD I had a flashback of memories. Although without photographic memory, I can feel how things looked, and I can just know things without having to physically see or hear it in my mind

Once shamed and stigmatised, substances like LSD and psilocybin (found in ‘magic’ mushrooms) are now being investigated in research centres and hospitals around the world as treatments for depression, anorexia, pain and other problems.

  • In other words, one can't live without his ego. It's one of the most precious things which shape our entity. It represents who we are. How can one express his opinions without saying "I believe..." "In my opinion..." "I guess..."? The pronoun "I" embodies our ego. Most people misunderstand the true meaning of this concept which has nothing to do with arrogance

  • The general idea from spiritual/new age thinkers among others is that the ego needs to be almost totally silenced or ignored , as if the real way to exist only comes after you've done that . I just don't understand why that is so, I mean why would a subadaptive psychological phenomenon like the ego even come to exist especially when it usually acts detrimentally to us? Not only that, but it has completely taken hold of many people to irreversible lengths, and is always something to be observant of in the best of us. I'm not saying the view is wrong or right, though I have my own opinions of it, but rather why it is so constantly there in the first place, setting almost all conventions and standards for sexual, interpersonal, and competitive behavior in us if we'd be allegedly better off without it.

  • If he is true and I expand this thought of the non existing "ego" and look at other entities like "science" or "society" and even further on every sound perceived by our ears which has a "meaning" to us I end up at Nietzsches essay ""About truth and lie without morality". In this short essay, about 17 A4 pages, he says the same about truth and lie as Mr. Watts says in this speech. Truth is if Nietzsche was true nothing more than words arranged in a pattern without contradiction. If this is true we might be able to see "truth" but we will never be able to communicate this truth. Quote Wittgenstein: "If there are no words for something, we shouldn't talk about it." Anyway "worth" hearing and fowarding it to a friend Thanks for sharing Mr. Watts
