  • This reminds me of Highschool football, we would watch post game films on Monday during lunch. One Monday our coach spent 30 just minutes just rewinding and playing a specific set of play in slow motion. It showed an exhausted overweight front lineman never leaving his 3 point stance for 3 critical overtime plays in a row. Afterwards in front of the entire team the coach told him to clear out his locker by the end of the day. That kid went into a deep depression. A few months later he suddenly passed away. They said he had some congenital heart defect. Overweight, anti-social and unattractive by Mean Girl standards, Football was his identity, we all said he died from a broken heart.

    • My high school football coach was an ass and overweight himself. Just yelled and cussed at us without rhyme or reason and built no respect between coach and players. It’s no wonder why we sucked as so many kids quit the team or didn’t even play because of him. It was a very negative and toxic environment. Football wasn’t fun, but we would dominate in little leagues and JV. I saw that the most successful football coaches were those who loved and respected his players, but was also hard on them when necessary (to a certain and healthy point). It’s a shame that high school football coaches take it so seriously. Many of them need to relax and TEACH, rather than just yell and degrade.

      @edyflak@edyflak4 жыл бұрын
    • @@edyflak I believe that only counts for Kickoffs. Punts are only down when they are caught/fair caught, PR tackled, KO team touches ball or when the ball completely comes to a stop. Going out of bounds is obvious as well. But that would still be a live ball until the ball stops on a punt, not kickoff though.

      @AngryArtemis@AngryArtemis4 жыл бұрын
    • It counted. Even to this day you can still run it out of the endzone. Key lesson: Know the rules. Obviously 20+ other guys on the field were a bit lazy to even pay attention as to where the ball did (or didn't) go got burned on that.

      @Reggie2000@Reggie20002 жыл бұрын
    • I'd say it's a bit harsh to call it a 'low effort play.' In hindsight, of course he should've gone for the ball, but I can totally see how he'd make that mistake. QB's have a responsiblity to protect themselves for the sake of the team. Any NFL player will tell you that. Yeah you gotta be tough and take big hits, but you can't be reckless (*cough *cough Baker Mayfield). He had that tactic to not get injured burned into his brain and it kicked in at the worst possible time. I honestly felt bad for him. If it was anything other than the Super Bowl, it would've been understandable. And much like that fumble, he didn't recover. It was all downhill from there. He had a good career overall, but he was never the same after that. I wouldn't call it a low effort play as much as it was an epic brain fart.
