    @kilppa@kilppa5 жыл бұрын
    • Lalas was part of a generation that put the US as a viable challenger for Mexico's spot as the top dog in CONCACAF. A generation that compensated with balls and passion the lack of domestic support and the apparent lack of talent. After retirement, he saw how US soccer grew steadily from being a pushover to becoming an animator, both in the World soccer scope, and in the domestic scope. He then had to behold how some dudes with not a dime of his passion were failing _(and ultimately failed)_ to qualify to the World Cup, something that had became a gimme for the US.

    • @@nicholastrudeau7581It's round one of the playoffs. The league/networks are trying to squeeze 4 games in per night, with the widest TV viewership possible. It's an impossible task, getting nationwide viewership of four 2.5 hour games after work at 5 pm separated by 3 hours east to west coast. Next best solution is to double up the games, have 2 time slots, maybe a 6 pm central and 9 pm central. It's really the only way if you aren't going to have 4 simultaneous games in primetime.

Not defending Moss but I was at every home game in Minnesota 1998 and I witnessed the crap he had to deal with. So yes, fuck you Buck, you are on TV only because your dad and Moss made it happen by himself.

    • I don't understand American football. What was the problem there?

      @vahurjoa210@vahurjoa2105 жыл бұрын
    • Vahur Joa Okay, so the guy who threw the ball was the quarterback. Usually, the quarterback throws the ball forward past the line of scrimmage to another player, and if the ball hits the ground, it's an incomplete pass and they don't gain any yards, ending the play. A lateral pass, meanwhile, is when the quarterback throws to ball behind him or to the side - think Rugby, for example, where you throw the ball besides you or behind you and if it drops the ball is still in play. When the QB does a lateral pass, the ball is still live if it's dropped, so somebody on either team can pick it up and run it to the end zone to score points. The problem was that the referee didn't call the pass as a lateral despite it blatantly being so, and instead called it as an incomplete pass, negating the points that the kid who picked up the ball had scored. I kinda feel like this explanation is only muddying the waters more, but I hope that it helps at least a little bit. Really, all you need to know is that American Football is basically Rugby but much slower and more methodical - interestingly, early football was much closer to rugby, and it started evolving into something different somewhere after WWII.
