  • What Schalk did not mention is that 'the past' in South African is not only the huge stadiums, the Currie Cup, the interprovincial rivalry or exclusion of the Springboks in the first World Cup. It's Rassie and his team's inclusion of the historical style of the apartheid era South African Rugby Association (SARA) for black players and the South African Rugby Federation (SARF) for mixed race players. South African Rugby fought itself for the first 25 years after liberation. Now it isn't fighting itself any more. The Springboks display the potential that underpins diversity. Today's great Springbok players no longer copy the styles of previous International Springbok greats, they show the greatness of the styles which unrepresented groups never had an international stage to display on and which apartheid and exclusion had kept separate. Every time the Boks prevail today, a South African public celebrates how right it is to include us all. Manie Libbok ,Kurt-Lee Arendse or Hanyani Shimange don't have a style of play like any previous Springbok greats. But if you travel around the Boland and watch rugby played on imperfect fields with hundreds of spectators lining the touchline, you'll find plenty Libboks, Arendses and Shimanges. Then travel to the Northern or Eastern Cape where fields are tufts are grass laid out at an unlikely angle. Where men would play barefoot for want of money to afford boots. But the brand of beer they drink and the banter afterwards is still the same. That is Rugby

    • @@queyoung754 Yes, but tbh, France is scary, it's the only team in the WC that can beat the boks. I watched them against Australia and NZ, they crushed them playing at 50% capacity, they've got so much room for improvement. Cmon, more than 50 points at Twickenham a few month ago! I think it's a mistake to already see the boks winning.

    • Na , Saffas are, in general, arrogant. Comes from not living in a nanny state. Those who rise are assertive and beligerant if necessary. No one is going to do it for you. Then those watching those who rise above the crowd vicariously take on those traits to feel worthy.

  • The Aussies have a pretty big tight 5 and a very strong scrum as shown against the French in their warm up and against Georgia whom are famous for their scrum as its their main strength that they take pride in. Their inside centre Kerevi and wingers Koribete and Mark Nawatwintawasi can give some big hits and have shown up in the break down doing some quality clean outs. The Wallabies will be competitive but I doubt they can match the Boks agression, but you never know.

    • @@noelmuller7592 You should consider the fact that they played the Boks as the first match with a new head coach, coaching staff and tactics. It's like writing off France because they lost to Scotland in the warm ups.
