  • This interview feels like a meeting between a legend-in-the-making and a legendary teacher. Among many similarities, they both recognize that they share the gift of empathy. Olivia always pays homage to artists, like Alanis, who vividly and honestly express raw emotions that are vulnerable and real, and Alanis keenly pays respect to Olivia's "stream-of-consciousness" and "multi-flavored style" that provides layers of depth to Olivia's songs. We witness both Olivia's youthful questions and yearning for more knowledge and Alanis' wide and ranging perspective from her experiences of life as an artist (and mother), ending with appropriate advice for a "sensitive soul." A timeless exchange!

I can certainly tell that they are both songwriters based off how they expressed/framed their thoughts into words. As the conversation got on, it only became better. Lovely.

They are both brilliant songwriters, debuted when they were young, and hit stardom very quickly. I hope Olivia’s career goes in the same direction as Alanis. There are even mainstream songs that talk about unaliving themselves, then actually unaliving in their sorrow.
