They only found him because they were monitoring the hideout Tony was taken to. The place was suddenly attacked (0:00) and the Air Force starts trying to figure out who it was. In between the "it wasn't (branch of service)" they visually see him on camera (0:08) and just follow him while they scramble jets and figure out who it was that attacked. In ironman 2, Ivan was also able to track Tony when he was chasing him with his drones. but you can argue that it was visual (like the cameras from this scene) from Rhodeys suit, which was also being controlled by Ivan.

  • This simple scene somehow caries more weight than a lot of modern movies. The thing is that we sort of understand the power of an F-22, and seeing Iron Man interact with two of them is relatable and gives a sense for his power level. Nowadays we are told that this or that hero is 'extremely powerful" but we can't really relate to his supposed power, because we can't compare it to something real. What's the difference between Thor, Hulk, Nano suit Ironman or Captain Marvel? They all do some random feats of strength and durability, they all seem all but invincible. Yeah, in direct comparison one will come out stronger than the other, but in the end of the day, their power is unrelatable and thus less impactful. Give me Mark 2 Ironman fighting two Raptors any day, over the Nano suit tanking a hit from a moon.

So for Tony already being able to survive 2, and could've taken them out, he just didn't want to hurt the pilots, shows a good scale of an early Iron Man already being ahead of the military. Iron Man in Endgame, or even Iron Man in Iron Man 3, could have very easily handled this situation and defeated Jeb and Venko. Edit: However, at the same time I think the F-22's in this scene are portrayed as more dangerous as they actually are solely so that they can impress the military censors that determine if the script is good enough to allow the use of the donated military assets for props.

Iron Man 1 was sort of "grounded in realism", way before "Bigger than life things", also, military porn, the military felt relevant in the early days adding up to the "grounded in realism" thing. So yeah, early Iron Man really did feel real and special. It felt so satisfying to see Tony build and learn to use the suit for half a film and deal with realistic threats, Gulmira dudes, tanks, fighter planes. Whereas now anything the plot needs, boom easy build. • Well the F-15C (fighter interceptor) can easily beat the F-16D (strike fighter) too, and yet nobody gives the F-16 shit. That's because one of them (in this case the F-22) is basically designed purely as an air supremacy fighter, with only bare minimum ability to attack ground targets. The F-35 is designed to be the ultimate strike fighter, with far better ground attack and ship attack ability than the F-22 could ever dream of, and it's also got formidable capability in air to air engagements, and that's not even getting into the fact that it's a flying sensor platform and networking node, sharing with and allowing allied units to share whatever they see and hear with everyone else, including targeting info.

      @22steve5150@22steve5150 Жыл бұрын
    • 1v1 the F22 beats the F35. 10v10, 1x F22 and 9x 4th gens vs 2x F35s and 8x 4th gens, the F35 is better. The thing about the F35 is that it's far more cost effective than the F22, and it's ability to network with 4th gen fighters is far superior to the F22. Not only does it wreck 4th gen fighters almost as one sidedly as the F22, but when it's done it can use its stealth to fly behind enemy lines with its AESA radar and send incredible amounts of data back to its allied 4th gen fighters. It sees everything and shares that information with legacy fighters, acting as a force multiplier for allied jets. On top of being better at multirole missions than the F22.

Even in the first movie, Tony is the epitome of a very book smart person who makes the most awful decisions, mostly because of his own overblown ego and narcissim.

      @22steve5150@22steve5150 Жыл бұрын
    • @J L and look at the shitstorm that followed that crash. Look at what happened when that F-117 went down in Bosnia in the 90's and when that stealth helicopter went down in the Bin Laden raid. Other pilots had to be risked and aircraft had to be risked to come in and bomb the wreckage and even then in both cases the Russians and Chinese gained valuable intel on our stealth systems from wreckage pieces they obtained. Now imagine some fucking idiot causing us to lose an F-22 only 3 years after the fucking things became operational, and inside a no fly zone of some random eurasian failed state.....all because one fucking asshole had to flex his ego. Even if you justify him going in there without running it by his buddy Rhodes, he had a chance to at least tell him after the fact when Rhodes called and flat out asked him if he had anything operating in the fucking area. It was only until he felt he might be in a little over his head that he called back to confirm it was him, and by then it was too late.
