Or is he the one playing?
They weren’t owned by Disney at the time, so it’s very obvious why the tone changed in the later films. That’s why the Incredible Hulk is still way better than the current hulk.
Ngl I kinda loved Thor playing Fortnite. Dude literally lost everything he’d ever had and half the universe died because he failed, depressive spiral is entirely justified

I miss THIS Iron Man. The suit looked badass as hell, Tony was badass as hell, and just the all around grittiness of the scene itself. No aliens, no magic, none of that. Just cold well dished out justice.
I completely agree. Making the entire MCU into a energy/magic light show made it less impactful and real. What's the difference really between a bolt of magic from Wanda or a blast from Star Lords pistols. Everything has been reduced to a load of CGI lights. The best fights in the MCU had a gritty realness about them, from a Captain Amercia's fist fight in the elevator to Iron Man's village rescue to the Shang Chi bus fight to Daredevil in the long hallway. All felt like the hero's were being pushed hard.
Yes and his suits didn't fall apart from weak attacks. Even the suitcase in Iron Man 2 was a disappointment.
@@Firemarioflower the suitcase suit was still a prototype in that stage and had less armor and weapons for increased mobility and carrying... i'd say it served it's purpose

Him crawling out of the pit and shooting the tank is, to this day, the coolest Iron Man scene... The way the machanic sounds exrpress emotions like anger or surprise is just brilliant. I really miss that in the newer suit versions.
The sound design and cinematography is sublime.
Back in the day when it wasn't just a superhero moment, a badass moment. The way the music play as he walks away from the tank. Like those moments where the cool guy walks away and puts the shades on. I really miss these moments. Where the creaters of the film didn't make him just look cool, but badass. There is a difference and this Iron Man was pure badassery.
Well I guess Tony should have been blown up when the tank hit him
I enjoy how Tony never really talks in this scene, or how the audience doesn’t get a view of the inside of his helmet. Makes everything all the more serious.

That's because cinematography-wise, it's shot from the perspective of the villagers.
This sequence is the perfect example of how important is the Sound Designing part in any movie
People don't realise that the audio in any production is created and added using various methods and takes an awful lot of time and work. But the audio really enhances the entire experience for the audience. Sound designers, mixers, engineers, foleys, do a fantastic job.
I mean, they completely forgot about the second tank shell that Stark dodged, it vanished into thin air apparently because it doesn't make a peep after he dodges it, it doesn't hit the walls or small shops that Stark was standing behind. As well the enemy combatants that were there or where the Jericho Missles were. A bit much on the robot movement sound too. What's really impressive here, is the film's quality and realism. Great cameras and not much CGI
The other nifty thing hiding in the sound design, is if you listen to Tony's initial landing at 1:22, you can hear him grunt from the impact. A VERY nice touch hiding in that audio layer.
@@atigerclaw Holy sh**, you're right! I thought I knew this movie by memory, yet never noticed this. Thanks for pointing it out!
I’d also throw in costume design. This scene is so cool bc there is weight to the iron man suit. He actually feels invincible. There’s weight to the landing and the movement and that also comes across with the design of the suit. It’s sleek yet bulky. Fast but still powerful. New MCU movies miss on this all the time now.
2:22 “he’s all yours” that line and voice was badass
Too bad nobody could hear it over the noise being made by his thrusters. They also probably didn't understand him even if they could hear him.
I find it fitting that Tony doesn't say very much in this scene. He's undoubtedly pissed off about all of his weapons being used by terrorists. He's also really focused because this is the first time he's used his suit in combat, so he's adjusting to how much of a beating his suit can handle and how much pain he can dish out. He's also aware that very few people in this country will understand English. And on the filmmaking perspective, it creates a tone that one man has ascended above all others, and his enemies need to be afraid of him.
@Azaan Naqvi I know, right! 🤣
Damn!!!

2:22 is this the film making perspective you are talking about. Honestly never thought about it this way. Just adds to the awesomeness of the movie.

No one gives sound design credit which is sad..sound design is one of the most stressful and demanding parts of a film. However, I noticed from rewatching this scene just now that films are getting more and more elaborate with sound design. These sounds sound weak and basic compared to todays standard.
Seismic charges in the star wars attack of the clones are testament to that..
Little known fact the repulsor sounds in this scene is originally just testing fx sound jon favreau made. which is why they sound a bit different compared to the other scenes with them. If you listen closely to these repulsor sounds theres an underlaying “thundercrack” that was put in to make them sound powerful for Iron Man’s debut
This scene out of many proves why this film deserved to be chosen by the national film registry for preservation. This film DESERVES to be immortalized for many generations to come and watch.

@@tommyvercetti1111 Which then results in everyone being boring, ironically.

The villains were always the weak point of the MCU, even with this movie. Sad cause they would get some fucking great actors to play some of their villains (Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane , Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, etc). But they're usually written as very one-dimensional. Obadiah Stane is actually an example. Bridges is acting pretty damn well, and when you first get introduced to him he seems like an interestingly intimidating character. But as the movie goes on you realize that he's basically the typical asshole in a suit strawman that sadly gets repeated quite often in the MCU. Once he reveals his true nature and puts on the Iron Monger suit, he turns into a pretty clichéd villain with some generic bad guy lines.
2:54 one of the most badass walk aways ever
The design of Tony’s initial suits remains unrivaled to this day. You can feel the raw power behind everything it does, from every rocket and repulsor blast, to every clank it makes with each footstep. It’s a shame the nanosuits feel so much less impactful by comparison.
Plus the nano tech suit does literally everything. It has a built in AI system that can do almost anything, to hacking abilities, anti-tank missiles, retractable nano tech shield, nigh unlimited energy in the suit, self repairing nanotechnology, repulser blasts, retractable nano tech swords, and can shift form, it’s bullet and air defense proof, heads up display in the helmet, saved data memory in the suit, form fitting and nonrestrictive metal due to its nano technology, cold resistance, water resistance, heat resistance, electricity resistance and more, and is portable and when shrunk down due to it being nano tech it fits in her arc reactor which she can now remove and it’s only around the size of a Starbucks coffee lid.
@@JJ_Jonah what’s really crazy is that the nano tech suit has life support for interstellar travel. Tony just casually exits the atmosphere within seconds. Somehow that skin tight suit is either holding or recycling oxygen. Plus the AI is able to operate outside of Earth. Which in previous movies was established to be impossible since the AI operating system is based on Earth and entirely planet bound. Leaving the Earth used to turn the Iron Man armor into something no better then a knight’s armor from the 14th century
I love how this scene is shown, Tony isn’t a man here, he is a machine specifically there to kill and destroy the men who tried to kill and destroy him.

The original comics were even harsher on Tony. He wasn’t just a billionaire playboy philanthropist. He was also coked out half the time and questioning whether his family truly loved him. Ginseng was a brother and first true mentor to him. Not to mention it was the first time he was stone cold sober in years from his coke and alcoholic fueled escapades. Imagine that Tony, making the realization he was arming terrorists, he was indirectly killing thousands. That Tony plus this scene, gives you an idea of how impactful this moment is. It’s not a man on a mission, it’s a man who has everything seeking redemption at any cost, even his own life. He realized not everyone is as fortunate or as privileged or gifted as he is. Merely that we all need someone to look up to and right our wrongs. Someone with a will of iron. A damn IRON MAN if you will.
Just imagine how scary every funny hero would be if they stopped making jokes. Imagine a guy who can climb walls, overwhelms you with his super strength, and webs you up all without a word.
In the amazing spider-man, they almost had this in the beginning. You see a scene where he's all happy and joking as he webs up a dude, then he goes all silent and serious as he goes to double check if it's the dude that murdered uncle ben. Gave me a few chills

I think one of the most powerful decisions of this scene was to have Tony and Jarvis almost completely silent. Unlike in many future films where there's some banter, maybe a few funny quips from Tony. This is Tony with all that bravado stripped away. This is the real Tony Stark. A hero.
Yeah but that's what makes Tony Stark, well, *Tony Stark* after all. He's mostly known for dodging questions and confrontations with witty banter and Jarvis is to Tony as Alfred is to Bruce Wayne...if Alfred was an AI.
This is not Tony stark... this is Iron Man, the alter ego
Gulmira was Yinsen's home village. Tony wasn't exactly in a quipping mood what with these scumbags knocking over his deceased friend's home.
@@SHARPSPEED yup
I dunno. It felt like he just replaced one super weapon for another in this scene. Luckily he rose above just relentlessly killing people.
There’s one thing about this scene that I don’t see a lot of people talking about, and that is the almost fantastical nature of it from the perspective of ordinary people. Think about it. Since this was the first entry in the MCU, there were no gods, aliens, blips, avengers or magicians. To the general public, the world was still relatively normal. And then they suddenly hear reports of a village in Afghanistan that was saved from terrorists by a red and golden angel that shrugged off sprays of bullets and fired beams of light from its bare hands. The general public probably thought: “What was it? Who was it? Was it even real?” I have always found this idea fascinating. The idea of ordinary people witnessing these ridiculous events and characters for the first time and asking these questions. I hope we one day get a superhero movie that really delves into this generally overlooked part of this genre. What do you think?
You can just feel how determined he is in this scene. Tony's not just fighting to beat the 10 rings or save the villagers, he's fighting because he knows now that he's done nothing for far too long and needs to right his wrongs. Everyone Iron Man saves in this scene is all for Yinsen, a short lived, but genuine friend who sacrificed himself for Tony and urged him to not waste his 2nd chance.
And the most furious part is that they can cast the boy, now as aged man as Iron Heart, its still maintained diversity and even better because he has withness how Iron Man saved his father and his village. Instead they put a chick on it and she absolutely gay on next film.

This film looks so much better VFX wise than the current marvel films. Look how amazing the suit looks, absolutely crazy.
I wouldn’t say it’s a case of it being better or worse CGI. The CGI nowadays is arguably better in terms of quality and pixel depth but what makes the difference is the use of it. In films during this time of cinema this was brand new graphics, the best shit anyone could get but because it was so expensive to use it was used sparingly and thoughtfully. Nowadays it isn’t as costly for film studios to absolutely cake that shit in CGI with concern for pockets getting thin. A lot of studios became too dependent so they fail to recognise the importance of prop and CGI hybrids So at the end of the day we’ll have to wait for that realisation. The very gritty realism is what made cinema amazing. Only very few movies successfully caked CGI. Avatar being one of them but it makes sense because of the world it’s set in. Another one I’ll point out that has excessive CGI but works is Guardians of the galaxy, but it needs it. The thing about iron man is besides the suit and few other things, they should stick to prop work and set design.
@@JustBramz well said mate you are absolutely right every words
Also because most of the suit was actually made. Like, they made a physical suit to put on RDJ and the stuntmen. There was minimal CGI used on it, because most of it was real
@@JustBramz Most 2000-2010 movies looks more realistic than today’s movies. That’s what made Hollywood famous in first place.
@@oxyht Agreed there was a time where they looked better on average. There are a few exceptions however I disagree in saying 2000-2010 was prime Hollywood lol. Prime Hollywood imo was 80’s-90’s cinema. Absolutely fantastic.
There’s something about older Marvel movies that hit different. The more grounded and realistic feel is way better to me than the whole epic scale CGI fight scenes we get nowadays.
yup all the weird engame thanos etc era of marvel movies is where I gave up
is because it was before Disney.
@@studybooks3395 true
I totally agree. The OG marvel movies > the crappy new ones we get now.
Practical application and CGI coupled together is a dying art.
Imagine being that man. A rifle held to your head, praying for it to be over quickly and hoping your family survives... and then you hear the Stark Resilient afterburners overhead.
What a comment 😊🎉🎉🎉
The creaking sound of the steel makes this version of iron man the best😂
Movie still looks great to this day. 11 years later...
Yep
@Marquis Beverley Imo best solo superhero movie
I can't believe it's been 11 years
@@MirzaKhalid yeah... Practical effects always age well, and always will be better than CGI
Damn bro i remember being in 6th grade seeing this movie and being absolutley infatuated with the iron man character, the story of how a regular person made himself a hero

That guy in the tank must have been noobmaster69’s dad

@@therealmaskriz5716 hmm, problem is that people are spamming shits on both sides of conflict, and i dont have enough brain cells to sacrifice on reading that.
When you got surround sound speakers this scene is so badass 1:17
Funny how the suit looks more realistic than the one today
I think it’s because they didn’t cgi the suits unlike today
@@justjake385 Parts of both. In this film the suit is both CGI and Practical. The Practical effects were also done by Stan Winston's studio. One of his last jobs before he passed away. For those of you that don't know, Stan was the guy responsible for Terminator 2's effects, and the first three Jurassic Parks. Stan was a fucking master. Another big thing is, in this film as opposed to the Avengers films. ALL the Budget is on Iron man, rather than split amongst characters. Finally, this Film had people at the helm who were working hard to be as believable as possible. Paying attention to all the little details. Like the whirring and clicking of the Suits as their servos push and pull. Later on, I think they got a little cocky, a little lazy, and stopped caring about those little details. Iron man 3 for instance had a director (Shane Black) who clearly didn't know shit about Iron man, his mythos, and had his own "Vision". That's the problem with a lot of comic movies, DC especially. They keep bringing in people who have a "Vision". The don't care about the books at best, and scoff at them at worst. Thinking they somehow know better than the 40-60 years of history. Whereas the best comic films have people who love the character, the books, and point to the books saying "That. We need to make that." Thomas Jane said it best in his Punisher film. "You have this great, iconic character. Why fuck with it?"
@@MaxxCoyote a concept you are all not considering, the storyline is supposed to follow that of the comic books, each generation and iteration of the suit is supposed to mimick the functions of those in the comics, this includes the super far out of this world nanotech which was that of the Mark 50 and subsequent mark 85 suits of armor. Also you have to consider the environment Tony is in, with each movie passing, towards the Ultron era, you enter the realm of space aliens and gods fighting people, and there even turns out to be an African country (Wakanda Black Panther Arc) that has access (and subsequently deep in research) to nanotech which unlike the more practical and clunky designs of the more realistic suits, I don’t expect to have any whirring or clicking aside from the few sound effects of the nanotech moving about, and forming panels which ultimately click close in the case of the Mark 85, making Tony’s later suits a bit more realistic in terms of following the story.
you do know it only looks real cus it was also practical but don't lie when you see all of them in the newer films a lot of them look pretty realistic
The CGI was so good because the suit is made out of inanimate objects. Flesh is still VERY difficult to simulate digitally (though we got close with thanos) but cars, buildings, pretty much any object has been able to look photoreal since the 2000s. That's why he looks so good, plus the very realistic and natural lighting, in a realistic environment. If you look at something like infinity war, you just feel like you're watching a super cool action movie, which isn't inherently bad, but that's all it really registers as: just CGI. But here, it's a realistic scenario in a realistic environment. I hope this makes sense.
This iron man is silent, more violent, and the content of this scene is more gritty and terrifying, that's the iron man I love
Same. Iron Man before he got Thanos PTSD.
Wish we got more of him being like this
That's because this isn't Tony playing superhero. This is Tony making up for his lifetime of mistakes. We don't get this side of him again until Civil War.
And it's the Iron Man we would've gotten for the rest of the MCU if it wasn't for Disney buying Marvel in 2009
This is Iron Man pissed
I just wished there was an Ironman in real world too ,to deal with the terrorists.
So your telling me that iron man flew from America to Afghanistan in that suit
That flight probably took 15 to 16 hours.
Iron Man, we need you now :(
This scene contains the greatest superhero landing of all time.
Meanwhile Thor : I like this one!
This MK-III Suit should stand against the Captain and the winter soldier. The old Mk-III survived the Tank shell and landed on the ground in high pressure .He had more speed, strength and endurance, and the newer model MK46 will not survive the hand of the winter soldier WTF Marvel.
I KNOW TRUE
@@vready2550 Marvel kills iron man suits actuall abilities to make the scene!
Woohoo! Super-hero landing! Very impractical though, hard on the knees.
Batman: “I don’t kill” Iron man: “I take no prisoners”
To be fair, Tony's foes are typically more dangerous than thugs/hired guns. Yes, I know Bruce's are as well, but despite all his tech and strategy, Tony's smarter and understands when non-lethal force would cause more problems in both the short and long term than it'd solve.
poolpepsi i see one prisoner
@@martinez4205 Leaving the leader of that gang to the "Mercy" of his victims is worse than Tony killing him himself. That group of civilians probably made the leader beg for death.
Well I don't really care for Batmans no kill policy. The minute he locks up psychopathic murders like the Joker, Penguin, Two Face and the like then when they escape (which they always do) then every person that dies is because Bruce let these fuckers live. None of this no kill crap. They should be put down like the monsters that they are. This is why I love Judge Dredd so much. Dredd: Code 3613, the first degree murder of a Street Judge... Block Warlord: Let me guess, life. Yaaaah! Judge Dredd: [turns around and shoots] Death. Court's adjourned.
@@DaDMonDCB He died, he was shown in ironman 2 very injured and asking that guy with that electric flash to avenge him

I love how serious Tony is in this scene with just one line he delivers so harshly, we don't even see Tony's face throughout the scene just pure iron man kicking ass
Right. This seems legit. Unlike when Disney came down the line
You are lucky that Joss whedon didn't directed this movie lol
@SIR. Fronos True 😐
@SIR. Fronos dude.. the victims were also muslims/arabs
@SIR. Fronos Hello FBI, we got a terrorist apologist here. Might wanna look into this one.
I think comparasion needs to be made with how the military deals with terrorists and how Tony handles them. The U.S. military just sends drone strikes or A-10s to wipe out the inhabitants, terrorist or non terrorist while Iron Man uses precision to save as many lives as possible l.
Bro whoever shot him out of the air is cracked
"He's all yours!" What a great scene! The feeling of new power and determination surging through him through the testing of his new armored suit for the first time must've been exhilarating for Tony.
And that voice was awesome, I wish Tony never revealed his Identity and that Jarvis is a real butler and fought with the REAL Mandarin
@@bluetaigax1747 Especially that last part, man. The fake Mandarin would’ve been so badass if that was actually him. The one in Shang Chi (the real one) isn’t too bad either.

for whats happening in the middle east, really wish bro was real
This suit sounds a lot heavy and more metallic than the subsequent ones. It’s more cool this one.
nazart its was more realistic
The nanotech suit is beyond cool, but I can't help but like this one. I think I like both for different reasons.
The nanotech suit is superior to this suit in every way. It’s more durable, faster suiting up, more gadgets and functionalities, more flexibility it’s movement and most importantly it’s lighter. But nothing beats the original classic Mark 3 armor
That's because it *is* heavier. Tony was able to drag his Mark 42 suit in snow all the way to a cabin, then rest it on a couch in Iron Man 3 - meanwhile, I've heard of some developers claiming they imagined this particular suit as weighing in at around 800 pounds, more or less.
I'm not sure why so many people in these comments think his newer generations of suits are somehow inferior or less cool because of their lack of perceived weight. That's... intentional. This suit would get completely shredded and outmaneuvered by the Bleeding Edge in a heartbeat. If he can shave off weight, bulkiness, gain flexibility and still maintain great resistance to all forms of damage, he does. We see the evolution of the suit go in this direction with each movie. Tony needs that mobility just as much as he needs survivability and damage resistance. His early suits wouldn't be much more than a paperweight against threats like Thanos and his army. They have to show that Tony is a prodigal engineer and super-genius somehow, too.
2:52 I remember that scene when I saw it in the theater. The audience just busted out laughing from that pitiful little 'ping'. Then morphed from laughing to uproarious applause when the tank blew!
ex-wife, but by Stark Industry
and tony's badass walk without looking back
One of the most iconic Ironman Moments. Crazy to think that 11 years later and he then had nano technology which can form huge shields leg boosters and what not in an instant. I really loved how the longer we go the more advanced it gets
When I saw this I was with a buddy who is an M1 Tank driver for the US Army. He ID'd the tank as a Russian built T-80. He said the ease of its destruction was actually very realistic for this scene due to where the Russian had stored the Ammunition in regards to the crew compartment and the turret autoloader. You get a HEAT round in the spot where Tony dropped his and you've got an internal catastrophic explosion ready to go. Of course, making weapons for the US Military for years, TOny likely knew EXACTLY that little detail.
