My demonstration using a Lenco Spot Welder. (LencoSpot Welder), (Spot Welding sheet metal), (patch panel spot welder), (auto body spot welder). My demonstration using my spot welder that we normally use for automotive body work, patch panel replacement, sheet metal fabrication, rust repair work or automotive restoration work.

  • I used to work in the factory that made all these machine for about 3 years. The main transformers for the machines are still made here in the US by hand wound, dipped, and baked. Most repairs for these machines that come back were due to people pulling switch cord off of the switch on the one electrode. They used to make a tip sharpener for these, but quit due to lack of sales. You can take a file and clean off the electrode tips if they start to stick, or spark a lot during spot welding. Someone mentioned welding on both sides of the metal. They also sell a pinch type gun that can be hooked up to this same welder to make those types of welds. I made snap-on spot welders that were very similar to this one and they all come with the pinch type gun. You can also buy a dent puller that will work on this welder. It comes with the dent puller and a magnetic ground clamp. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you I bought one of these at an auction and wasn't sure how to use it exactly. Can you use just one of the handles to spot the metal in place?

    @freddyg9026@freddyg9026 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for watching the video. The welding handles with the tips both have to be used at the same time to make any spot weld. You can hold them as far away or as close to each other you want but both have to be in contact with the same metal at the same time.

    • @@freddyg9026 He is actually using it incorrectly in the video you should be placing one electrode on each piece of metal and doing one spot at a time directly through the metal. The technique he is using here would only be for incredibly thin metal with a chance of blowing through on the lowest of settings

    • Sorry but you are wrong on this. This type of spot welder is designed to make two spot welds at one time and used for automotive patch panel or rust repair work. you are think more of the other type of spot welding that has both electrodes mounted together to clamp the metal together as it is being welded. This does not have the clamp ( vise grip ) welding electrodes. you can look up many other videos as well as look the company up showing you the process of correctly using this welder.

    • @@4N5W3R5 Dude, have you ever done any bodywork? If you could only do pinch-type welds, (a) you'd be screwed on most of your panels, and (b) you could buy a cheap all-in-one clamp welder to do the same (limited) thing. I don't think you know what the cross-section of a b-pillar looks like on modern cars...

  • Do you use weld true primer with this spot welder?

    @MiguelRodriguez-pz8wi@MiguelRodriguez-pz8wiАй бұрын
    • I use just regular automotive grade primers and never had any issues, but it is a good idea and practice to use a seam sealer on the back site of the patch panel to seal it up from moisture and air.

    • @@dave507233 Thanks for your reply, I was just wondering is the spot weld will stick to the metal using weld true primer between the seams

      @MiguelRodriguez-pz8wi@MiguelRodriguez-pz8wiАй бұрын
    • Most primers won't work for that, because both sides of the metal has to be bare to make the contact for the spot welders. Check Eastwood auto supply ( www.eastwood.com ) I believe they have a primer they say works for that, but I am not sure. The primer would have to be a conductive type of primer to allow for the welders to make that contact through it with burning a hole in the metal from sparking back.

  • That's a really neat welder! I looked at the info on it online and it says it welds 20 gauge maximum. Have you used it lap weld two pieces of 18 gauge metal and, if so, how well did it work? Based on the amount of heat you're generating for such a short pull on the trigger it looks like it should work. It would be interesting to see a test where two roughly 5" long pieces of 18 gauge are welded together with about 6 spots and then see if the two pieces can be pried apart as a test of how well it welds 18 gauge.

    • Thanks for the comment. I believe it will weld a little more than 20 gauge metal, when I get a chance I will put it to the test and give it a shot and we all can see it together.

    • i just bought the ugly green older version of this machine probably from the 60s- lenco panelspotter- doing some testing about 3/4 the way up on the timer i spot welded some 16 gauge (.062) stainless. jabbed it with a screwdriver seemed to hold. do some searching. i found a few for $100-$200 then stumbled on one for $40.

    • @@thatbiguy1975 I used to make these welders. The new ones are pretty much the same concept as the old ones. If the welder still works good, you could even use new cables from a new welder on it. The only thing you'd have to wire in would be the switch. They've changed how it plugs in several times, but still all wired the same.

    • This spot welder is really designed for sheet metal work. Ideally for automotive patch panel work, and or sheet metal fabrication work. Google Lenco spot welders and you will get more information about them, they have been making these for over 50 years.
