Welcome to the off-road race battle you didn’t know you needed in your life… Until today! Audi RSQ8 vs new Dacia Duster!
That’s right, we’re seeing if this awesome Audi performance SUV has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the cheap & cheerful Dacia Duster through a series of off-road challenges.
When it comes to price, there’s a massive gulf between the two. The Duster we have here starts at around £20,000, whereas the RSQ8 comes in at a whopping £107,000!! But that’s not the only difference…
When you take a look under the RSQ8’s bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 600hp & 800Nm. It’s also equipped with the awesome Quattro all-wheel-drive system, and it’s mightily heavy, weighing around 2,300kg!
As for the Duster, it’s a whole lot lighter, tipping the scales at just 1,400kg! And as you’d expect, it’s well down on power, with a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine putting down 115hp & 260Nm.
Surely it’ll be an easy win for the Duster, right?! There’s only one way to find out… LET’S DO THIS!

when in 4 wheel drive off road, or snow, you turn off the stability control... poor duster was used incorrectly..
Not in every situation sometimes power will help you to get out of these situations because theres no computer trying to stop slipping tires i just have a fwd car and sometimes it helps in the snow to turn the tractioncontrol off because it doesnt have such smart tractioncontrolmodes (its 13 years old of course it isnt that „smart“) just a little play with the clutch and start in 2nd gear without trc and off you go

By dint of completing all the tasks, and even on points, it's not a draw: the Dacia is the clear winner here.
As cool as the RSQ8 is with its Quattro technology, at that price, I would be afraid to take it anywhere off the tarmac!
That Duster is a very good competitor being a very cheap car. Perfect to do off road challenges.

This channel and Matt have so much fun!
Fun video. Fun watching you all have fun actually. But also useful. Good job guys. Thumbs up! I'd love your input on a few things if you are able: I'm actually trying to decide right now between a luxury 2022 Audi Q8 or SQ8 or a full size suv like the 2022 GMC Yukon Denali or AT4, and maybe a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, maybe. The Escalade has many of the Audi luxuries that the GMC suv's do not have, though all are to a degree luxurious, but I wonder would the Escalade be as good as the Audi or for that matter the other two on bad roads in bad weather. Not sure I'm an Escalade sort of guy anyway, though those massaging seats of the Escalade and Audi's might be nice after a hard day on the slopes or hiking. Do wish I could get the 20" all terrain tires of the AT4 on either the Denali or Escalade, especially the Denali, which at the high end both require 22"rs. Don't do much off road, other than to get to the occasional camp site or fishing spot, and no or unlikely actual old style "off roading", but I do need to be able to get anywhere anytime in any kind of weather on any kind of roads, here in the high mountains in ski country during snow storms, on both steep highway hills at high altitude to less well maintained secondary roads, to cross country highways all year round, to sea level and back again. Kind of torn. Pro's and con's. AWD Quattro vs 4WD GM's. If an AWD Audi do I get the sport package available on the SQ8 that includes roll stabilization and a rear sport differential added to the quattro and all wheel steering of both the Q8 and SQ8. And if I go Audi will I be able to tell the difference between the 285/45/21's that come standard and the 285/40/22's that are required if I opt for the beautiful exterior black optics package, not sure but thinking that slightly thicker rubber on the 21" wheel might be worth sticking to. Any thoughts on my choices? I'd max out the highest trim and luxury features of whatever I get, except for that sport package on the high end SQ8 which I go round and round about. Will that rear sports differential likely so good on dry roads, be helpful on bad snowy roads during storms, and with it will the audi still shift power forward in addition to side to side on the rear axel. Wish I knew these things. I don't mind spending extra money, I just don't want to waste money or make things worse for my needs. I would of course put dedicated snow tires on whichever vehicle I get for winter use in ski country. Any thoughts/suggestions to share on any of the above? Thank you. Either way, great video. Learned a lot.

no lover of the duster, but in a real off road test, both with off road tires, the duster wins every time.
Once we were working in the Audi A8 launch event and were given Q7s. We had to leave the Q7s near the start of the desert so that the professionals could take the guests to the camp through the desert. Apparently a part of the under cover was made of a type of cloth or soft material and all the cars’ under cover got damaged. Audis are not off roaders.
being scared to drive the car for the probably of damage makes this a totally unrealistic test
Not really, nobody takes their vehicles out of the roads to destroy them. Nothing but cladding taking damage would be acceptable to a person in normal circumstances
Exactly, if we assume that the duster owner can afford repairs we should assume the same for the audi owner.
On the contrary, being scared to drive an expensive car through harsh challenges, makes this a very realistic test.
@@ItsMeFred Totally agreed. This made the whole thing unaccurate and unfair, and worse with those tires. Yet an awesome comparison.
The RSQ8 would've passed that last challenge also, so then it would've been Audi 12-10 Dacia. It's still nice to see how the Dacia kept up in terms of offroad capabilities with just a fifth of the price.

I think it's completely fair to put important details randomly in the middle of the video because that way it forces people to watch the whole video you've worked hard on instead of skipping through it. As long as you watch the whole video you'll find out all you need to know
Please make the audi s4 black edition TDI review!!
I think the audi quattro is the best 4x4 technology of this generation and it was a definitely the winner here, but the duster managed to keep up nicely. Considering the price i think you get more from the duster, so that 5 dusters are better that 1 audi 😅.
The duster automatically wins coz you will never see an audi off-road.
This was very helpful! I had a big headache trying to decide whether I should get the RSQ8 or the Duster😄
Stability control must be switched off in the duster when in 4 x4 mode. The duster is a fantastic lifestyle vehicle. Good off road, very good fuel economy and like driving a small car in the city. Nothing on the market like it
Yey. Darren is back ☺️
Saw the lada back there Mat, cant wait for that one
You are the only car journalist that pronounce Dacia correctly!! Love you :D
Hey do off-roading of indian suv 2 plz 👍🙏
'' 7:54 here comes our mountain goat down running '' lmao hahahahhahahahah :D omg I can't stop laughing hahahahaha
Il faut enlevé ESP du Duster (le voyant s'allume) quand on bloque le différentiel, le q8 restera dans les pâquerettes vue l'angle d'attaque
You have to practice your clutch control mate. It's very useful to slip the clutch when the power is cutting down
I've been here for a few months now, a lucky and very satisfied owner of an Audi Q8 S Line, I meet your Dacia Duster roads every day and they always make way for me to pass! these are two completely different cars, if you can't buy the audi, you don't need to make such a fuss, those of us who deal with cars know what audi means. !
Would like to see the duster on proper of road tires c how it would actually perform
I see Carwow notification! I click it … It’s that simple…!
Why keep mentioning that the Duster is a _cheap_ car, so can be driven without care and repaired cheaply? Families that purchase a Dacia Duster may not have the financial commitment for the cost of an Audi, let alone the RSQ8. Yes, cost is relative, but to compare cars with such disparate costs and say the cheaper car driver can be reckless or less caring for the car is not required. How about the RSQ8 versus its siblings in the Urus, Bentayga and Cayenne?
Not that anyone would go offroad with an rsq8 but those road tyres make all the difference. Put on offroad tyres itll do amazing.
I was hoping you would take in the Lada as well. Would love to see how it would go against the Audi
