Jimny is a legendary vehicle. I wish I could get the new model. Duster has come a long way too. Good points for Duster is that not only its a capable off roader but also have plenty of space for family and daily chores. Jimny Falls short when it comes to space.

We in Indonesia buy a new jimny must pre order first and pay a down payment. The fastest vehicle arrives 6 months later, even at the beginning of the sale, you can wait up to 1 year. I don't understand with suzuki Indonesia..

Love my Jimny but I think you are comparing apples and oranges here. One is an off-road vehicle that can be driven on-road, the other is an on-road vehicle that can be driven off-road.

A new Duster interior rattles more than my 20 year Jeep Cherokee - and that's saying something! The overall quality is way below par for a modern vehicle but it does offer a lot for the money. But underated?

The difference is that the Jimny is a very raw e old style 4x4 , the Dacia is a suv/urban car
and buyers of a Jimny are nature boys, buyers of a Duster are city dwellers and families who don't want to make their cars dirty and who start to cry with every scratch
Duster: "I'll try not to wreck the car" Jimny: "If it still has wheels at the finish line it's fine" Jokes aside, you can see a big difference in how much the drivers cared about the cars. That influenced the time a bit.

The Dacia isn't bad considering you could actually used it comfortably in a daily commute/shop.
not bad, but if you'd have to take it off the road, it would struggle far more than jimny. also two different cars for two different breed of people: one for occasional off roaders and grocery runs, other for daily off roading and not much else. all rounder VS purposely built off roader. apples and pears ;)
@@ApocGuy in 12 years of my driving experience I never needed to go off road. This whole off road capability is like the 0-60. Yes great, it can do that, but how often will you actually need it?

@@ApocGuy Duster is the best in off road in smal land compact SUVs ..has long travel independent soft suspension which mak it comfortable even on rogu city streets amd speed bumps. It is reliable car. Auto bild tested it on 100.000 kilometers and mechanic reliability was more than OK. Just small problems with corosion..what Suzuki also have. Duster will be food in off road ,gravel roads, city driving and highway..Suzuki Jimny ..only off road for short people.
@@zepter00 I had previous gen jimny and samurai, and despite I like dusters there is no way that current gen duster will outrun Suzuki off the gravel roads. I do agree that duster is best bang for buck in it's class.
The legend has it that those front wipers on the Jimny are still wiping the dry glass.
I like the Dacia Duster, it's a family car with off-road capabilities. Of course the Jimny is a real off-roader but the Duster did honorably. And it's made in Romania, my country!

I remember one from a German magazine a while ago. The Jimny won, mainly because of its smaller size and lower weight, which are a serious advantage off-road.

Everyone : oh my god , how fast it is. Time difference is brutal. Me : OHH my god, how clean it is. Script is brutal. Conclusion : It was a 101% car commercial. not even 1% comparison.
The Jimny Is covered with mud half way through and perfectly clean at the finish. Clearly the Duster won and they manipulated the video!

it was watery shit they were driving through not really mud... you can kinda see in on the plastic trim and you can see a light dirt waterline on the paint. They didn't wash it, no matter how shit i think the new top gear is.

They didn't. They drove through puddle of water not actual mud for the dirt to stay on the car. In the case of jimny it's probably because of the paint color that the dirt is not visible.

Wow... So impressive to see that even after crossing the muddy pond the car still looks super clean... Top Gear should also advertise the coating and the PPF they use on the test car.

My dad has a Renault Duster 2.0 flex 4x4 and it's a great car for its price.
had exactly the same one as a rental and own a Mazda CX 3 AWD 150 ( 2,0 no Turbo - shit ) as a winter car. . Tell U, the price difference is worth every penny. Won`t go 200 on a German Autobahn in a Duster like I do every 2. day in my CX 3 ...
@@heikopanzlaff3789 neither would I, as a Duster owner. But then again, that's not why I bought it; I just needed an affordable, rugged and simple car. It's perfect for that.
My dad has the 1st gen Duster with the 2.0L 16V petrol engine and 4×2 (its a fwd model as we just needed space and being affordable and reliable, no need for offroading). You could say, we can get an estate but getting into a low height car gets annoying so yeah the Duster is genuinely a great car to do almost anything in.

It went through the muddy water and that washed the big bits off. If you look closely you can see the muddy water on it.

In germany i drove my 1976 CJ7 jeep up beside the bleachers to watch a motor cross race. After a bit some of the Germans in the bleachers encouraged me to join the race. At first i was reluctant to do so as i thought i would get into trouble, but they enthusiastically wanted me to do it. I shifted into 4x4 high and jumped the berm and entered the race. I made one lap with the bikes going rather fast, even getting a bit of air over the woops, then exited over the berm where i had entered. The announcer was talking about it over the PA. Everyone was cheering about it!

Nothing is "fake". They simply re-drove the cars for certain shots because they don't have 20 cameramen and 20 cameras for every possible shot and every possible angle.
It looks clean because of the water but look at the bonnet and you can see that its a bit wet

I would very much like to have a Jimny in a unique and cheap 4x4, I also like the Duster maybe a little less capable 4x4 than the Jimny, but it is much more versatile on the road, carrying passengers and loads. I want to have both

The Suzuki Jimny S410. That thing will go anywhere.
Having owned and driven both vehicles extensively, I have my doubts that the Jimny can beat the Duster so far. Feels a bit staged if you ask me. The Jimny is purely a play thing. It has virtually no space for luggage and is very slow and unstable when cruising the highway. Buy it if you are a single person who frequently wants to go and have adventure off the beaten track. You will have lots of fun. The Duster is more like a normal car in all aspects, but can also handle quite a bit of off-roading, it is certainly better than your average AWD SUV in that respect. Buy it if you are a family man who wants to go camping with the kids off the beaten track every once in a while, or want to go and have the odd bit of fun on a low difficulty grade 4X4 trail every now and then.
Thank you. I wouldn't want to go on holiday by myself and with no camping gear or clothes. I really liked Jimny but doesn't work when there are 3 of us. A trailer is not a great option as the 1.5 doesn't have lots of spare power.
Bit of an odd selection, the Jimny is a woeful on road car where as the Duster is fine both on and off and won't fall apart around you😎

Duster is the best. There is no more question. For almost the same price it is a very good offroader, but in the same time it is very confortable also on highway for a family.
Very nice 👍 long awaited comparison ! I had three Gypsy here in India the three models came over a span of time and a Duster ! But both a class and features apart as far as Indian models are concerned. Indian Gypsy King is a very capable offroader 👍

Should also do it in reverse order, to make sure there is no difference from knowing the track better. Jimny will win, but that is close with a mostly family road car, which is amazing.
How did the Jimny look so clean "after" that muddy run, when they were revealing its time? Seems like some trickery was afoot.

@@madmick3794 There's still some grime, but there's a big difference between when the car crosses the line and the shots afterward. In any case, there's nothing wrong with a TV show being scripted and maybe shot out of order. Old Top Gear did much worse sometimes.
