The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 30 - September 11.

      @FlowerTrollSan@FlowerTrollSan2 жыл бұрын
    • @@FlowerTrollSan Maybe. But the fact remains that Rafa has missed many more big tournaments than Nole. Starting from his first GS appearance at Wimbledon 2003, Rafa missed 11/73 GS and had to pull out of another 4 GS mid-tournament due to injury (2010 AO - knees, 2016 FO - wrist, 2018 AO - hip, 2018 USO - knees). He played through at least another 5 GS injured but was too great a warrior to pull out (2009 USO - knees + abdominal tear, 2011 AO - hamstring, 2014 AO - back, 2021 AO - back, 2021 FO - left foot). He also missed 6/15 year-end tour finals since he first qualified in 2005, as well as the 2012 and 2020/21 Olympics, due to injury. In total that's 15 GS forfeited, at least 20 GS impacted, and 22/27 "big" tournaments forfeited/impacted by injury (and this doesn't account for all the Masters tournaments he's had to miss). In contrast, since his first GS appearance at AO 2005, Nole missed 1/66 GS (note he also was defaulted from the 2020 USO). He pulled out of another 4 GS mid-tournament (2007 Wimbledon - elbow, 2009 AO - exhaustion?, 2017 Wimbledon - elbow, 2019 USO - wrist). Since first qualifying for the year-end tour finals in 2007, Novak didn't miss any to injury (he failed to qualify in 2017), nor did he miss any Olympics. So Novak has missed 1 big tournament due to injury, and had 5 known to be impacted by injury. At least 22 for Rafa and 5 for Novak, if not 27 for Rafa and 5 (maybe more) for Novak. Seen in this real-world context, Rafa's career / big tournament achievements are all the more remarkable.

  • Was at the match. That game at 5-4 in the third, my goodness. As a diehard Djokovic fan, It was almost pure elation to becoming a nervous wreck descending rapidly into the abyss, back out to the highest of highs I've ever had after Novak's penultimate shot in the 53-shot rally, back down even quicker into the darkness, then shot out like a rocket at the end. Have never had a rollercoaster of emotions like this, only thing comparable was FO vs Nadal, but I was merely watching that one at home..

  • In both 1st and 4th sets Djokovic was overwhelmed by Zverev's agression and didn't have answers. The problem is that in order to win a 5-setter you need these 3 sets under your belt. In other sets that Zverev lost he dropped his level drastically and Djokovic with the experience that he has used these mistakes to his advantage. And this 5th set was a peak representation of why Zverev still lacks wins over top opponents in best-of-five format - how is it possible to drop the level of your game that much at such a crucial moment?

Also on most of the break points nole went down the T to target z forehand return and Medvedev most of the time guessed this and did a better job in return. You should never allow djokovic to go 5 sets if you want to win because his win percentage on matches that went 5 would be too high .

  • Used to be back in Laver's day you could be small (under 6 feet) and compete in ATP in the strongest tournaments. Now only Schwartzman and a smattering of clay courters can do it. Sasha, Danil, Stephanos, Reily O'pelka, -they are all taller than Nole, Fed, and Rafa. I thought I could better as I used to teach ESL and now a proud member of the CRS group.
