Daniil did defeat both Novak and the crowd. What a way to win!
Novak finally earned the crowd support he has been demanding for years.
@@notsohandytim5090 that is the saddest part ,Novak has to DEMAND for the crowd support rather than EARN it! 😞

Superb performance.. Medvedev new hero
The crowd was very rude on Medvedev.. Luckily he maintained his calm to finish the match.. This is a sport not politic..
This is what you expect from djoko's fans
US open crowds have bad history. I honestly feel that's why Osaka is the way she is. She was booed when she beat serena Williams. Ever since then never the same.

@@raregoodds3143 Why does everyone think they were booing Osaka??! They were booing the lines calls and Carlos Ramos. Trying to demonize Serena, y’all always forget the FACTS
Medvedev did what Tsitsipas should have done in Roland Garros: remain calm at two sets to love and finish the job.
exactly
Tsitsipas needs more toilet break to win
Still can't get over how he lost that. If only tsisisisipas had been in a Grand slam final before. He would have had the mentality prepared to win it
100% if he had we wouldn’t even be having the grand slam convo. I knew he was exposed then before his loss at the Olympics.
His grandmother died 5 minutes before the match. Just sayin…
Medvedev clearly learned a lesson from his Australian open loss to Novak. He gave him absolutely no chance in this final. The manner of this defeat will be hard for Novak to overcome. Kudos to Medvedev for a brilliant performance!
Yep, the second set was crucial and a lesser player(mentally) like Zverev would've given an early break to Djokovic which could've been the turning point. Medvedev saved a lot of break points early second set and that was crucial.
From what I have seen how the bug 3 cope with losses, they come up with a better strategy next time they face the same opponent. I have 0 doubt Novak won't lose to Medvedev the next time they face each other.
@@ishaangupta4125 Yeah we'll see.
@@SnookerFan-kl1jj Indeed. We'll see.

Watching the final, all I could think was, "My gods, Medvedev, you're a BEAST!" I couldn't understand why the horrendous crowd was being so horrendous to him, though. And why wasn't the referee more forceful than "Ladies and gentlemen, please?"
Referee probably was biased in Novak's favor, and wanted an upset, can you imagine, if someone did this to Federer or Nadal, when trying to serve out the match? There would be an earthquake!

I don't know why everyone is saying that Djokovic played worse in the 3rd set. Sure, he lost more points, but when it came to baseline rallies, they both increased their level immensely, making almost no errors while hitting one amazing shot after the other.

Daniil held his nerves well, though some fans were hissing while serving at 5-2 last set.
As a Nole fan, I can't help feeling happy for Medvedev, he outplayed Djokovic in every point, and some points just played erratically as if to humiliate Novak and let him have one or two points. It's sometimes fun to see one's idol beaten clinically like that.
It is sport, you win some, you lose some, he already made history... Lets see what will happen in Australia.

US open is a free for all and the most unpredictable slam. It's produced the most different winners bar the big 3 in the last decade with Rafa racking up FO and Novak racking up AO and Wimbledon with odd wins from fed and Murray. Since Feds 04-08 run no one has been able to defend their US open title successfully! Quite insane
That is true about the US Open being unpredictable. Hard courts take a toll during the season, and some players are worn down physically when the US Open hits. It's so important to be tip-top healthy in NYC.
Well deserved victory for Medvedev.

Med fan here, I was so worried and stressed while watching this live that I thought Djoko was toying with him and might come back at any time like he did in the previous matches, but later realized (as I rewatched the full match) that Med just played so well. He stayed so strong and composed throughout the whole match and really deserves the win. Love you, Dr. Medvedev!
I've really warmed to Daniil Medvedev now. He's so unorthodox at times, but I enjoy watching him get the crowd going. I sincerely hope he and a few of these other guys start to make proper inroads into knocking the big three off their pedestal. The women's game is so much more unpredictable. Hopefully this will help Medvedev kick on!

thanks US Open for these highlights
i kind of imagine this is how Roger feels when he plays the younger Djokovic, he's not able to get the ball past him but can still do it. Only except in this matchup it seems like Novak has a hard time generating his own pace and angles like Roger does
Roger is the player with more skills, djokovick is the thoughest athlete, but didn't have big rivals in the next generetions. Now we are starting to see real rivals
This is what it should look like for an old champ like Djokovic fairly regularly. Instead, it's like a one off, which says something about his next generation opponents. They all lost their heads playing him, except Medvedev in this match.
Amd Noval felt the pressure of having the crowd's expectations like Roger always does.
Djokovic crumbled under pressure in this match(unusual for him). Federer often does that as well so there's one more similarly.
@@apathak34 fed never gives up in a match and always fights until the end. Whenever he played a younger djokovic it was a tight battle. Just like wimbledon 2014/2015 and uso 2015. This wasnt a tight battle djokovic crumbled completely here and gave up visibly in the 3rd set. There was a point where he stopped running to a ball he couldve gotten. Older fed gave a younger peak nole a run for his money. Over here djokovic didnt even get a set from a solid medvedev.
the different between the us open final 2021 and 2023 is that the 2021 match was a daysession and 2023 in close roof and when the roof is closed then the centre court in new york is like a night session match. And djokovic is in the night session a complete different better player. Djokovic biggest opponent is always the heat and the sun, i mean even even on clay is novak a better player then nadal in the night session. Nishikori was also better in the heat us open 2014 daysession match against novak, but in he rematch 2018 novak destroys nishikori in the night sesion by the us open.
To be honest Djokovic is looking really clean and powerful lately. Medvedev is more unorthodox style but he had the heart. I see this being an intense rivalry.

Wow what a clean victory for Medvedev! He played excellent tennis with impeccable serving, great hitting from the back of the court. I always consider him a player who plays high percentage shots and always get the ball back in play for longer rallies but the key was that he pulled the trigger and got aggressive at unexpected moments in the rallies..the insurance break in the 3rd saved him big time..Djoker was clearly feeling the pressure and nerves based on numerous uncharacteristic misses, with what was at stake but Medvedev deserved this so much…He was the better player overall and happy for his breakthrough…Tennis needs new faces to lift grand slam trophies…What a year for Djoker but next season will be very interesting to see…The Olympics losses and this one will sting a lot…Medvedev and Zverev seem to be the ones to watch out moving forward..and what a storyline with the big 3 still tied at 20-20-20…As a Fed fan, I didnt complain at Medvedev’s win but again hats off to Djoker for a phenomenal year!

People obviously know Medvedevs strokes are unorthodox but have to understand he is able to hit the ball so well due to his impeccable timing every single time it’s actually ridiculous. People talk about the shots, pace and serve of Daniil a lot. You need to talk about his biggest asset, his movement. His movement is absolutely so underrated. One of the best on tour. You can't hit through him because he gets to everything. He is very fast, with long arms, and a long stretch stance, so Novak just could not get anything by him. Other than a few bad shots, Novak did not play poorly. Daniil was on another level. Medvedev will have more problems with guys like Roger or Thiem. Roger who can mix it up so well, hit huge approach shots, and put away volleys, or guys like Thiem, who can just blast through almost anyone. Well played.
