it was definitely a classic, especially for maria who was getting to her peak of her post ban career. unfortunately she would choke in a chance to face kvitova in the quarters and then further on get injured and retire. she still had a slam in her, atleast a final.

totally agree! She was just getting better and better at this point & I feel like this was the last match where we really got to see her at high level, but her injuries suddenly stopped her momentum and it was detrimental for her :(
BroncoBillieBeastie honestly the meldonium is stupid. she beat serena easily without it on grass, and then continued winning slams for her career, the drug was not even performance enhancing and maria was one of about 50 in the top 100 using it. save it for later.

@@NO-po4cc no, her Wimbledon win was a fluke and serena was not at her best, even maria's coach admitted this and that's a fact you can't change, she started in doping in early 2006, so all the other slams she 'won' were on meldonium and it has been found to be performance enhancing hence the ban, Maria tarnished her legacy all by herself and she is the only to blame for this. btw, what was so funny was then serena still spanked her even while she was doping, she wouldn't even won a game without the juice. so save that for later fanboy.

Excellent quality all around, even the umpire did a stellar job (and she got Sharapova's surname right, unlike the commentators; native English speakers often put the emphasis on the wrong syllable in Slavic names). Both players put up quite a fight, but I couldn't help rooting for Maria. I wish she would come back to tennis at some point to win a few more Grand Slams, but she's obviously found success in business, so it's unlikely.

I wasn't a bad tennis player myself, just had trouble with my serve, forehand and backhand. I was great at glugging down the Ribena at the sit-downs between games though. Got no teef left !

Ya know I'n 2016 she was back on top as a top 5 international contender,, and was in Wimbledon final e d of 2015, then almost won the french open just before the Wimbledon,,. And 1n 2016 she made it to the gym Ustrali8 ope. Against azarenka, she was getting older and still beating them tremendously.. it's a shame that the tennis association band her for a year-and-a-half after that all over a medicine that she was prescribed to help her heal it was a legal pharmaceutical medicine for all athletes for decades and the schedule thing about it is all of a sudden it becomes not on the inappropriate list for tennis players to take as she's on it and it was very sketchy that the tennis assignment,, band the product not the medical association

I watch this match live and i was really pulling for Carolina..but maria is such a fighter and a wonderful at competition like these that is why i respected maria so much..but i was never a fan of hers and never.
