What people don't understand is that a battleships anti-aircraft guns, radio antennas and radar masks are not armored. Reduce the AA guns and attacking planes can come in closer and hit with greater accuracy. Take out the radio and coordination becomes much harder. Take out the radar and gunnery accuracy suffers and also makes you blind. Not everything is armored. Some critical ships equipment can not be armored. The German battleship Scharnhorst lost her radar early in her final fight and this crippled her.
