37:25 Amazing, incredible, accurate, and the best description I've ever heard/read of the lethal effects of a naval rounds impact with a ship! The paint of the ships hull turns into firey particle projectiles (almost like napalm). Holy ship! Hard to imagine being in close proximity of such an impact, yet this story does an excellent job describing just that. Wow. Though I well know the story of Taffy 3 and I realize the narration here is digital, it is still absolutely gripping to my imagination. This is a wonderful channel along with its "sister channels" about World War 2. The only thing that could possibly make this channel (along w/sister channels) better w/be having these videos in organized historically chronological order (which I don't seem to be bright enough to construct myself). Thank you for your hard work and all your efforts. May God bless the souls of all the great fighting men off Samar on that day. I don't know who put forth Comdr. Ernest Evans name for the Congressional Medal of Honor, but given the sheer number of heroic acts within the U.S. Navy that day, there must've been a long list of nominees.

I realize hindsight is generally 20/20, but it still really pisses me off that despite all this, plus…, running his fleet through not one but two deadly typhoons, Admiral Halsey was to be subsequently awarded that very rare fifth admiral’s star. If anyone was to have received a fifth admiral’s star at that time, it should have been Admiral Raymond Spruance.
If it weren't for Sprague, Halsey would have been relieved of command. Yet, even after the war he said he would have done the same as he did during the battle - take the battleships with him and leave the San Bernardino Strait unguarded.
Maybe he was too proud to admit he screwed up. Halsey was a real fighter but he had an impulsive streak. Had the Japanese task force kept its nerve and continued against the jeep carriers, Halsey would have faced hell from Nimitz. Possibly reassigned but he would not have been court martialed… hind sight is always 20/20.
Sounds like an arrogant prick: "the MacArthur of the Navy." Too proud to admit a mistake. Except it wasn't really a "mistake": his choices reflected his priorities.

Kind of interesting to know that the Japanese gunnery fell behind the American gunnery. The US tech advantage was overwhelming. Breaking Japanese code faster than the Japanese could themselves decrypt their own messages,?proximity fuses, better sonar, better radar, better gun directors, etc. Add to that its massive scale of manufacturing.

from 7 am to around 9:30 am ...
And days afterwards to recover US. survivors.

There is no f in lieutenant but only Americans pronounce it lootennant. English speakers do pronounce it leftenant.

One of the robbers was dressed as an RN Lieutenant but raised eyebrows when he introduced himself as "Lootenant" so and so to the QM's captain. For the record, Americans and many Canadians can be said to speak various dialects of Websterian, American English. In any event, "for uttering sweetly and properly the conceit of the mind, English hath it equally with any tongue in the world.'
