    • @@evgenyomegin Having just finished the game... I think it's absolutely hilarious how much the giant tree is actually glossed over at the start. It becomes a setpiece much later on but for the most part its there but... Who gives a shit. Deadweight and losing my arm. Those were my motivation... Until I started hearing some of the songs. Now I have different motivation.

      @baddus@baddus3 жыл бұрын
    • @@baddus because it's a regular thing in DMC world? Think about this, Nero is a devil hunter, like Dante, and what he does best is slaying demons and taking contracts. First off, he loses his arm, with the Yamato that Dante left him as a memento of his brother, that wouldnt be ever torn away by some lesser demons. Then, Dante takes a contract on Urizen and fails. Who would be the last hope to save Red Grave and the world if not him? V even states that Nero is their last chance to defeat Urizen. I think it's enough motivation to fight the demons. Like a witcher who fights dangerous monsters that kill people, he fights demons. I see no lack of motivation here, it's obvious. People just concentrate too much attention at the fact that Dante mocks Nero and Nero mocks Dante when the time is right not paying attention to full list of events. Like, if Dante didn't call Nero a dead weight, would he just sit still and watch people die because he is not motivated? Absurd.

      @evgenyomegin@evgenyomegin3 жыл бұрын
    • @@evgenyomegin mate, Nero is literally salty on this whole deadweight thing. He even bitchslapped Dante just to call him deadweight for crying out loud. JK. We all know Nero is a good guy. He doesnt need any motivation to help and save those people in that city.

      @Omega-jg4oq@Omega-jg4oq2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Omega-jg4oq when you say it that way, it really feels like Nero brought it all full circle. Sparda did everything he could to protect his family. Due to the events that cause the brothers to separate, both ended up with issues and not a lot of straightforward brotherly love, but instead a rivalry. Nero, who despite his upbringing had a good sense of family, as well as, if I remember correctly, expecting to be a father if I remember that phone call prior to him gaining his DT, achieved what Sparda wanted his sons to learn, and protect his family. Kinda funny he seems like the most powerful DT of the Sparda bloodline so far

Now he's discovered he has one and because of that he gets it and this ties Dante and Vergil into the concept of family he got from his adopted one. It DOES have some genuinely good ideas in it (it's just when it comes to that, alot of the time it's mostly wasted potential or questionably implemented), and at this point, while i'd love a DMC6 (or maybe a spin-off featuring Lady, Trish, and Lucia), I wouldn't mind if the DmC fans got their sequel. That said, I still think DMC1 is a better game over the reboot (personal reasons, mostly, but yeah...)

That it's now a weird side-path rather than "The Future Of The FranchiseTM take it or leave it" has obviously made people hate it less, if only because it no longer directly threatens something we love. If they took Vs stuff and mixed it with Vergil’s Doppleganger then for DMC6 that new devil hunter could be two characters that you juggle enemies between. Kind of like Astral Chain but you have more direct control over the second character.

Even with the “Special Edition” of 5 they didn’t add any costumes whatsoever. All costumes you can get are just recolours of the base outfits.

  • "Even with his new power he's not quite able to put Urizen down." Eh, I feel like that's more unwilling hesitation from knowing what Urizen is. Dante's strong enough to *still beat the immensely powered up Urizen later in round 3,* he quite handily schools Urizen in Round 2. Hell, he does so almost as hard as Urizen beat him in Round 1 weeks prior. That's just something of a personal nitpick in the way you said that is all. Also, gotta love that in the midst of saying that it's a shame Nero doesn't have his busters or his Devil Bringer, you show a DMC5 clip of Nero, in DT, bustering an enemy.

    @InfiniteEscuro@InfiniteEscuro3 жыл бұрын
    • no, saying " he's not quite able to put Urizen down" is correct, while dante certainly *would* have won the fight if it had continued, he wasn't strong enough to prevent urizen from escaping. i'm honestly not sure if dante was really going to kill urizen/vergil, i mean, i know he meant to, but in the moment of truth, would he have been *able* to?

    • @@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 Don't take my fairly snappy response as a good sign that commenting on years' old things is the usual thing to do. And to answer, not really, I stand by my original point. Dante schools Urizen in Round 2. The only reason he doesn't stop Urizen from escaping is because he hesitates from the tree doing more of its devil shit. Being distracted from stopping Urizen and being _unable_ to stop him are very different. And in the third round, after he beats a far stronger Urizen, yes, he appears to be completely willing to kill him. Remember, as much as he hated doing it, Dante made the vow to stop Vergil by any means necessary (up to and including killing him) even so far back as DMC3. He never wants to, but he's willing to if its necessary, and it was. He didn't even want Vergil to come back, given that he was trying to stop V, and at the end of the game the only reason they don't (more than likely) kill each other in a draw is because Nero steps in. Dante, since practically his inception, has always known that stopping Vergil may mean killing him, and he's always vowed to stop him.

  • Noticed you didn't talk about Nero's Buster Knuckle where you can augment attacks by pushing Buster to punch people in the face while using Red Queen, and I kind of wanted to hear your take on it. The way it affects knockback is super fun to use in combos and really diversified my second playthrough from my first. I love using it to punch people in the face while Nero charges Showdown, or as a way to keep a juggle going during an air taunt.

Great to watch someone examine the series from a (at least at first) newcomer's perspective and especially great to see them enjoy it! • I think everything you said was perfectly fair. I will say that i personally prefer DMC1 over the reboot as i love the gothic castle design, and love Mundus being an evil allegory for god. Plus, Air Raid and Vortex to me have never been better since DMC1. As for my top it'll have to be DMC3 on Switch with DMC5 only just behind it in second place. The reason i say this as well is that the only issue i had from DMC3 was style switching and the Arkham fight, as most annoying enemies like the angels and the Dullahan can be dealt with by switching to quicksilver and folding them. The Arkham fight, however, is just abysmal. On top of that, the story imo is better in 3, but DMC5s is also good. As for why DMC5 comes up short for me at least. I feel as though DMC3 Switch has proven that Dante doesnt need to be limited to only 4 core styles. Gimmick styles like Doppelganger and Quicksilver can be easily switched to with a double tap of a style button, yet DMC5 removes Dantes Doppelganger and Time manipulation. And while I absolutely LOVE Sin DT and the Quadruple S technique that comes with it, and see Sin DT as the single greatest form in any series ever, i feel like it only almost makes up for Dantes missing powers that he should have. As for level design, I just think Temen-Ni-Gru and Hell in DMC3 are more interesting and varied than the Qliphoth of DMC5. The Temen-Ni-Gru feels like a multidimensional demonic tower, with its waterfalls, strange domains and hovercarts over lava pits that are far larger than the outskirts of the tower (bigger on the inside, as if each section were its own demonic realm). And the depiction of Hell looking quite holy, like a satire of Heaven that defies the laws of physics is just amazing. The Qliphoth could have been much more. As a demonic tree, it could have housed multiple universes or realms representing each boss, given that its implied throughout the series that Hell is multiversal or multidimensional. So many creative domains could have been designed, but as mentioned in the video, it either has a grey/black wood texture with red human blood globs everywhere, or has an insect hive look, save for the prelude to King Cerb where it is icy and looks cool. DMC5 does serve to be a great character study on Vergil through V, highlighting his compassion, regret, trauma and kindness at times, but also his duplicitous and manipulative side, as well as a tragic self-loathing. As the video said, Vs weakness highlights the fact that V isnt simply Vergils human side. V is everything Vergil hates about himself, and every quality he sees as a weakness. For example, his desire to rely on others (to be loved and protected), his desire for family, his interests outside of his quest for power (poetry and classical music). Urizen is there to signify that Vergils quest for power means nothing without his humanity, as unlike V, Urizen hardly has a personality. It is interesting that both V and Urizen hold resentment and rivalry towards Dante, seemingly suggesting that Vergil sees this as both a strength and a weakness; A strength because Dante serves as fuel for his pursuit of power, and a weakness as Dante has previously proven to be Vergils equal and sometimes superior. It could also be a weakness as Vergil sees any family ties as a weakness, which is ironic considering his quest for power is rooted in love for his mother and admiration of his father.

Coincidentally the style is famously used by the Winged Hussars, was called by German Masters as a "Hellish Cut" and weirdest of all its said by people on the web its as if the practitioners aren't guarding their hands (Should have had that advice sooner huh Nero) Unfortunately Polish style is mostly a lost art of combat, thanks to the ups and downs of Polish history its mostly gone, now modern practioners instead reconstruct it using other styles based on how near they are like German, Turkic/Steppe, Turkish and Hungarian.

  • Honestly, I paid the extra to try Vergil, and he is easily my favorite in terms of gameplay.

  • As someone whose first DMC game was DMC 5, playing as V in my first playthrough was my favorite part. His skill floor is really low, and enemies have so little health on the easiest difficulty that you don't notice how low his damage is. Skip ahead a year and 200 hours of play time, and I don't think I've played V at all since getting all the collectables

  • Your content is really solid man, and I have been getting into dmc through your content. Played 4, and 5 recently, and 1-3 + the reboot when I was younger. I'll still follow your content regardless. Out of curiosity, would you review the older god of war games? They have very similar combat to dmc, being combo based spectacle/style fighters.

  • The biggest issue with DmC was the new Dante, the teenager who tells people to kill themselves online is not the Dante we loved

    • If only "the Dante we loved" fanbase was a little bigger. DmC still wound up selling more than DMC 5 🤷‍♂

    • @@travistotle And DMC 2 sold more than DMC 1, which in turn hurt the sales of DMC 3, but does that mean DMC 2 was the best?

      @liviekumori@liviekumori Жыл бұрын
    • @@liviekumori Nah, that's not true. DMC 2 sold less than DMC 1. Although looking at the numbers again, it looks like they counted the figures from the DmC Definitive Edition in the total DmC sales compared to DMC 5, where they didn't actually count the DMC 5 Special Edition figures. That's weird.

  • They should've made V play more with magic than just the familiars, so he would've made sense for him to just fall back while his familiars grab the enemy's attention.

  • Great video. Agree with you this is the best game in the series, but when I put on the nostalgia glasses, 3 just shines too brightly. I guess I'll have to put a hundred more hours into DMC5 and then make the call. Also you're pretty good at this as Dante, some awesome clips in here.
