  • Have fished that pier for decades, never had a ranger complain. He ain't from around here obviously. Bless his heart!!

  • Nothing to apologize for at all. This was a pretty darn good day's fishing save the rogue wave, loss of recorder and a c/s ranger harassing you. Thanks for your good work producing this outing....

  • I once thought about wade fishing, catching and reeling fish toward me and the distinct possibility of attracting sharks to me. And then I woke up in a cold sweat.

  • Actually, Brant... that was one of my favorite videos, BECAUSE of the "unpolished" look, even after the edit. I found the audio just as good as a mic and recorder, mainly because there wasn't as much wind noise. I know... I've complained about that before, but it IS nice NOT hearing the wind as much, or at a different freq. level. Filming from the GoPro only in POV, almost gave more of a sense of actually BEING there, compared to always seeing tri-poded views. I have ZERO complaints about that video. I know "wade fishing" is a pain to you fishing creators, but it's good medicine for not-so-good days. Thanks! Peace.

  • Good thing the Ranger came along when he did. You were obviously presenting a clear and present danger to not only yourself and others. But the entire ecosystem as well. You could have easily misjudged a cast and splashed water onto the decking of that abandoned pier. That could take 2-3 minutes to dry! Think of all the damage your were doing!

    • They should have a MINIMUM of one ranger driving one of those garbage collecting rigs over those asphalt fields. After 24-years...the white sand in those areas is gray...I kid you not! The more that asphalt breaks up, the more it discolors the sand.

Personally, I appreciate that quality in an individual. I enjoyed the fishing and the catching. THAT looked like a lot of fun. Especially since I knew exactly where you were and I live in Arkansas!!!! Thanks for a great video..

  • This looks like fun fishing. I have used a lightweight conventional outfit (7' Fenwick rod and Shimano reel with 10# test line) for live baiting anchovies on the West coast. And I went up to a bit heavier (8' rod, Shimano reel and 15 or 20# line) tackle for live baiting anchovies when fishing for larger fish like school tuna up to around 20#.

  • Catfish trick Brant. Take a screwdriver and slide it down the catfish's throat. Hold the line tight against the screwdriver and twirl the catfish around the screwdriver. The catfish will spin and the hook will come out This works even if the hook is swallowed. Worse case is the line may break. But it does not require you to touch the catfish at all.

Areas like this do require 24hr access and its easier to just say stay out. It's not about excluding fishermen, l fish all the time too. Maybe just fly a drone in and drop your bait next time.?

  • How much has fishing in Pensacola changed in my lifetime? When I was 12-years old, I lived in Warrington and had a little boat that I would take out into Bayou Grande. The boat had no registration. I would fish alone with no license, no limit on my catch, and no life jacket. There were many times that the Florida Marine Patrol would approach me with engine off and ask me how the fish were biting. They didn't harass me because I did not have a life jacket. They had common sense and could see that I could easily swim to shore if the boat sank. The FMP were always cordial and never once yelled at me. What has changed in just my lifetime? You know the answer to that and none of it is good. Those experiences helped shape me to be independent and hard working. What is society like today? Dependent and lazy. If I had a mic, I'd drop it.
