Little more info about branch cutting machine and how it is holding up during time and use, 5 years now. Updated to newer more reliable engine. Overall design proved to be solid excluding cutting blades. One update could be some kind of feed system. Naturally safety is always the issue and this is not build for consumer use. Belt drive had a cover but it didn't fit 2nd engine. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your comment! It is very simple machine. I forgot to mention that pulleys, engine and the rotor are with 1:1 ratio, about 3 inch in diameter using taper lock wheels to straight axle with friction. Cross section of the (V) drive belt is SPA 1PCS. If I could find thicker HSS blades it could cut thicker branches. Problem is that you can't drill HSS steel to make flat bar attached to disk. Maybe softer metal can be used, but then blades would go dull much faster.

Great job! I’m making one that is very similar to yours. It will be powered by 10 hp gasoline motor. The rotor is 16” diameter x .5” thickness. The rotor shaft is 1” diameter. How did you attach the rotor to the shaft? I’m thinking of welding it to the shaft with a flange.
Thanks Steve! You are able to cut large diameter wood with those specs. Yes I have welded the disk to the shaft. I checked straightness in the lathe before final welds.

Too bad I didn't have better video editing software then. If you put both your device main volume and youtube-player volume to highest words can be heard. I don't understand why changing audio base level on YT editor is not possible :(
