Thanks for filling in on a full model lineup for next year. None of the other reviewers I've watched have talked about the holdover models. Now I understand why the X90L hasn't dropped in price as I expected it would.

No 65" for Europe is a ridiculously odd decision. What are they thinking?
It's like the reverse of last year's models where america got completely shafted on the new mini-LED, it was only available in 85 inches here and I asked the same question: What were they thinking
Management at Sony's TV division are incompetent. Have been for many years.
Calling it odd is far too kind. The decision to shunt 65 is the dumbest ever…no small sizes in Europe ??!! Of course it make perfect sense…😢😢
Sony's gonna Sony.
Europeans don't buy large TV's. Most stick with 42 to 48 inches.
If it handles subtitles well, I'll be impressed.
Agreed, this is the ultimate test. As an OLED owner, it’s hard to imagine going back to subtitles on LEDs
IKR? My Z9D does a pretty good job if you sit in the right chair and tilt it correctly. I expect even better now but get disappointed when I go window shopping mostly.
@@E_Rice I have the Sony OLED A8G and subtitles are distracting. The white subtitles are so bright, especially in dark scenes it's quite distracting/irritating to the eyes.
it's not a challenge to handle subtitles well for modern miniLEDs, even Samsung could do it. The challenge is handling subtitles well WITHOUT crushing shadow details which Samsungs tend to fall short

Get ready for a Mini LED TV more expensive than OLED TVs
Yes plz. I need a second LG OLED haha
Nope. Bravia 9 flagship in 85" is only $5,499 retail. That's a grand less than their flagship OLED 77" I bought in Feb 2020.
At launch, the 75-inch model will be £4499, while the 85-inch version will be £4999. While undeniably a lot of money, it's worth noting that the 77-inch A95L QD-OLED was £5999

Thank you, Vincent, for explaining Sony’s new Mini LED tech so that laymen may understand. You are the best! I think I speak for everyone when I say we eagerly await your review of the Bravia 9. Extremely curious how it compares to the latest 2024 OLED offerings.
Sony Semiconductor is a powerhouse. Sony is one of the few Japanese companies that has a complete manufacturing stack available, from imaging chip, to lenses, to monitors. Their all-in approach on cinematic appearance and performance is going to pay off for their movie division.
Advanced laser diode for data centers is a remarkable breakthrough.Sony is very under rated
Their tech was so advance in the 2000's, it's too expensive for the market. AFAIR, they were the first to develop OLED Displays yet they weren't the one who mass marketed them.

A95L vs Bravia 9, Please Compare
This is exactly what I want to see
Sony Pictures will release 4000 nits remastered bluray for that exact purpose. Disney and HBO will charge you with a new 4000 nits HDR tier for new remastered 9 starwars saga and the Snyder cut. Great review on the new SONY models. Still using two 2010 CCFL SONY Bravia 55EX500 TVs and loving it, picture and color quality are still awesome even though they are almost 14 years old now, only downside is it's 1080, both are connected with laptops and wireless logitech keyboard/mouse combo. I believe they are MVA panels and the blacks look great. The team responsible for engineering these did an awesome job.
As a current OLED owner, I hope that Sony returns in 2025 with a new Master Series OLED. Seems to be the case as Sony usually releases a new Master Series every 2 years. In the press video the 3 hosts clearly said ‘2024 flagship’ as opposed to Master Series. I EAGERLY await your review, Vincent. You’re the best in the world at this and we appreciate you!
Exactly this
That would contradict their roadmap.
@@Simplyveej the roadmap to what? Affordable micro-LED, lol.
@@E_Rice they dropped major clues through the announcement that they don’t think OLED is flagship material anymore. At least Sony.

@@mgaming7 Nah, i would avoid it, because it has probably same bad viewing angles like X90L. Bravia 9 is the way to go imo.
I don't see how. The G4 is still better.
@@Da-iken Of course the Bravia 9 is much better. But if you look at Bravia 7 as a person that would be buying an X90L. The Bravia 7 doesn't cost much more than what X90L did but is a massive improvement. It's better than X95L in many ways because of color volume and so on. The Bravia 7 will be a great "mid range/budget" alternative. Bravia 9 is just even a lot better. It's a leap for their miniLED.
@@calisfinestdemon1703 I wouldn't be too sure about that. I bet the G4 wins in some things. But Bravia 9 wins in other areas. Also if a person don't sit in a totally dark room and only watch OLED demos, lol. They would quickly see there is little difference and Bravia 9 wins especially in color. It will spank the G4 in color volume by a mile. But I like the G4 too. It's my back up choice.
Very well done and informative technical synthesis of the new 2024 Sony's Tv lineup. Thanks!
Thanks for the video Vincent.
I am really impressed and I'd even take that Mini LED but unfortunately I cannot and will not go beyond 55" in screen size and I hoped for a 55" model but where I live they won't even sell any smaller flagship than 75" D':
55" TVs are slowly shifting towards the economy/value end of the TV market. In a few years, I'd expect that manufacturers will cease offering 55" models in their premium lineup. I wouldn't even be surprised if 55" panels are consigned to bargain bin off-brand models within our lifetime.
@@Uncle_Fred Within our lifetime? Kind of a long window, eh? I expect friggin holograms in my living room by then!

European homes are most times smaller than in the US. Why no 65 inch Bravia 9 or 55 inch Bravia 7 in the EU? It makes no sense to me.😢
I hope they translate the new Mini-LED panels into the PC monitor space. Higher peak brightness and more dimming zones would make it a nice alternative to the OLED monitor options.
im glad I got the A95L! It will stay the sony OLED flagship for two years
Or it be replaced by A95M in late 2024
The problem with Mini LED is that they still use LCD panels, so retain their drawbacks. Motion smearing being the main one (really noticeable if you've used OLED for a while) and viewing angle issues. I guess they could strobe the backlights though, which might help.
In fact, Sony has very advanced technology in regards to backlight scanning/strobing. On X95L you can have 120Hz backlight scanning with almost no brightness loss and it has the best motion compared to any Oled I've ever owned, almost crt-like (including a90j and a95k which didn't even allow 120Hz bfi, but only 60Hz with too much flicker and brightness loss). Motion on X95L is truly that good, I am confident Bravia 9 will be amazing.
OLED/QD OLED should be standard display by late 2020s as Micro LED is next premium TV display tech 😂

Absolutely what I’m looking for an x95L in smaller sizes hence the Bravia 7, this will be my TV for a very long time
It still concerns me that we'll end up in the same situation with films like Gravity where OLED will display every single star in a scene but those using local dimming will miss out quite a lot, reducing the impact of the scene.
How many stars would you really miss out on though? Would you even notice without a side by side comparison?
@KAL-589 Vincent did a video a few years ago where he showed the difference in that movie and it was a hell of a lot, probably the majority of them.
@KAL-589 It can be pretty noticeable. I noticed it on my QN90A. I'm sure the Sony will be better but it will also introduce more blooming. I was previously an LED fan when OLEDs were struggling to hit 700 nits for HDR highlights, but now that QD-OLED is hitting 1200-1700 nits depending on which model you buy, it's QD-OLED for me until micro LED actually becomes feasible. Recently got a 77" S90C and it's like I'm properly seeing HDR for the first time
You can point to problems on both OLED and LCD when you put a reference monitor between them. Everyone has to decide what strengths of the TV they value the most because they both come with compromises
And Oled is still struggling on large area and long duration brightness. Reducing the impact of those scenes.
Vincent we want the G4 review!!!
The G4 is the G3 with a slightly better processor, if you look closely at the picture and compare it to the G3 it looks a bit sharper. I fail to see why people are getting so excited as it if its some major innovation, if you want to see a leap compare the g2 to the g3.
I have both G3 and G4. The G3 went in the bedroom g4 in the living room. It's a much bigger difference in shadows, processing, motion and a bit brighter but I have to turn that down anyway. It's a huge upgrade IMO
@user-oq6sc1qm4j doesn't it also have an improved MLA panel? In any case that's why we want the review, to tell us what the differences are.
@@varsas10 All I am saying is the G3 was a revolutionary tv and a massive leap over the G2. The G4 is just a slight tweak over the G3 and the tweaks are not very noticable unless you put both TVs side by side and look very closely.

@cw205mi16: We were shown an internal presentation deck (which was more technical than the press release) that said there are up to 3x as many local dimming zones.
@@hdtvtest Vincent. Isn't the math kind of weird when they say a 65" QN90C and 65" Bravia 9 has similar zone count. But the Bravia 9 supposed to have up to 3x as many zones as the X95L. We know the QN90C has 720 zones in 65". And the X95L 65" has 480 zones. 3x480= 1440 zones. That is double the QN90C. So either it has a lot less than 3x, barely even 2x or it's a QN95C at 1440 zones (actually is in 65") and they labeled it wrong. Something doesn't add up. Maybe the 65" has a lot less zones than the 85"? A 3x 85" Bravia 9 compared to 85" X95L would land around 2600 zones. Since it's up from 860 zones. In any case, it's more zones and we can see it. I'm sure this will probably be the best looking LED-LCD ever produced, but it will also certainly still lack the precision of OLED/QD-OLED. While that zone control is nicely upgraded, it's still quite crude compared to per pixel dimming
I have to disagree. If they can control the zones more precisely, the Mini LeD panel will greatly outperform OLED due to the massive brightness increases.
I just don't get the attraction. Why not hold onto your OLED and just wait for full uLED panels?
@connor040606 It doesn't matter how precise they are because zones are far bigger than pixels. Even the most precise of local dimming techniques still won't fully be able to compete with pixel level control. Each zone is still trying to manage a cluster of pixels. This will help them get bright sure, but I still don't see the need to strive to go beyond 1,500 nits or so. Filmmakers have had the ability to grade to those levels and higher for years and the majority of them still choose to grade HDR at 1000 nits or less

Nooooo. Why are they still using that limiting media chip? Having only two 2.1 ports should be unacceptable. Especially if you wall mount your TV
At least you can now buy 8k switcher boxes to resolve the problem. But yeah, lame chip implementation on their part.
Theyre full 48Gbps bandwith 2.1 hdmi ports on the sony ,unlike the competitors which claim they are all 2.1 ports without full 48 bandwidth
They addressed that question tonight on the Sony After Hours Support show and it's largely because the MediaTek processors still provide the absolute best image processing technology. If they were to move away from that SoC platform (to get more HDMI 2.1 ports), image processing would suffer as a result. They aren't willing to make that trade off.
@@michaelbeckerman7532 That's a trade-off that removes them as an option. What good is image quality if you can't connect your devices to it. Having to buy extra equipment for something that should be backed into the TV is unacceptable to me. @@AntonioCunningham I'll certainly grant you that MediaTek should have already resolved this issue two years ago, no question about it. Why they haven't done that yet is entirely on them though. However, most gamers that swear they need four HDMI 2.1 ports never even end up actually using more then two of them anyways. Plus, how hard is it to simply unplug one device and plug another one in if you have to? Why is that believed to be such a massive burden? If you would rather have four HDMI 2.1 ports than the best possible image processing, the part that actually determines how well your game-play goes...
6:28 This is exactly why mini led will never be able to compete with oled, no matter how many zones they have--the backlight must pass through a diffuser which causes the blooming effect.
Depends on the algorithm to negate that maybe they’ve had a break through!
I've only just switched to a QD-OLED monitor and while it's certainly better in dark scenes and the motion clarity is amazing, it's quite underwhelming in bright scenes compared to my FALD LCDs and the VRR gamma flicker is insanely distracting in some games.
@@NexGenTekNo such thing as a breakthrough when local dimming zones are physically larger than each pixel. No LCD TV with any algorithm can compete with OLED when it comes to overall picture quality, contrast ratio, response time, etc. LCD only wins in brightness.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M Picture quality will be opinion based this year with the new TVs. This will be my second non oled. Contrast ratio sure. It doesn’t need infinite with 4000 nits. Response times are so low now it makes no difference unless you’re playing esports on a 75inch! The HDR will blow you away. My Z8H still has scenes that my oleds just can’t match.
Tell me you don't understand display strengths and weaknesses without telling me you don't understand display strengths and weaknesses. Nailed it.
This is amazing!!! Sadly I bought the latest X95L, don't think I'll be upgrading soon.
If the Bravia 7 is close to your x95L, and being in the US with smaller sizes, that will be my tv for a very long time.
Ur good l, most likely
When's the G4 review coming Vince?
Well, I guess I’ll be recommending Samsung S95D TV’s instead of Sony to my clients going forward 🤷
Only if the can deal with the anti-reflective coating that washes out the blacks. Maybe there is a way to remove the coating.
Just like with the Frame, the matt finish on the S95D does impact the color presentation to a significant degree. If color accuracy matters at all, then Samsung TVs (in any model) are certainly not the TVs you would ever want to be looking at or recommending to anyone. Over boosted and over saturated colors on literally every single model they make. Only really acceptable if all you ever do is watch cartoons or play video games.
@@michaelbeckerman7532 I can tell you’re not an installer because if you were, you would realize that Samsung hasn’t discontinued the frame line. The reason they haven’t discontinued the frame line is because they sell a lot of those TV’s to wealthy people. And for some godforsaken reason that demographic likes those TVs. Also, when you say Samsung has horrible colors. You would be correct about their edge lit LED stuff but when it comes to QD-OLED panels, the Samsung panels can be calibrated to look exactly like the Sony panels because remember Sony buys their QD-OLED panels from Samsung. If you have a K-10-A and it’s the same panel, you can set them to look exactly the same on colors. All I’m saying is that I’m not going to recommend Sony mini LED TVs that are going to have some blooming issues ( no matter how minor )and other artifacting that inevitably will happen with many LED technology. Right now QD-OLD ( & W-OLED in the 80+ inch size )are the better technology, especially in the TAX bracket that I sell solutions in.
@@businesstheotakuskitchen9000 I never said Samsung discontinued their Frame line and I'm well aware that they haven't. Also, if you spend anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 on a new TV and then say, "Oh, it will look right once you spend an extra $375 to have it professionally calibrated" I would have to ask you why? Why is it the customer's job/responsibility to have to go in and fix the mistakes made by the manufacturer, right out of the box? Why can't Samsung just get their colors right straight out of the box to begin with? Well, we all know why, don't we? Because their marketing strategy is largely predicated on colors that "pop" and catch customers eye while they are in shopping the stores. The problem is that over-saturated, over-boosted color presentation is far from accurate, authentic or realistic. Once customers get those TVs home and realize how unnatural things look on them, they don't feel quite so good about their purchase decision. Yet, people keep right on falling for that exact same marketing trick, year after year, like lemmings being lead off a cliff. Sad.
Correction: Sony doesn't want to pay for OLED, so they try to convince you mini LED at OLED pricing is just as good.
You're coping, coping and seething. 🎶
Nah. They are still fielding two OLED's this year. I think that they are betting that for most people the new LED backlighting system will dazzle and look good enough to most. They keep the OLED's around for the purists but didn't put much effort into that part of the line up.
@@bearclaw5115 Good info to know, thanks for educating me :)
Can't wait for the discounts on A90k and A80L
How much improvement will we realistically see. Ive got a QN94a which is phenomenal and only really notice blooming when the room is pitch black. If Sony expect to charge OLED prices, they can forget it, people will go an get Hisense or TCL TV's for less than half the price. Ill wait to see a TCL 855 vs Bravia 9 comparison to see the difference .
Except Sony HAS been charging OLED prices and having no issues selling them.
@@bearclaw5115 lmao they have been lasting till clearance at Best Buys lol
When are Micro-LED TV's coming to market? They are supposed to be the future.
2035-2040 ?
We're still 10-15 years away from them being available in 55-75 inch sizes at below $10,000.
We are very far from affordable MicroLED TVs!!
They're still in the future
If you're willing to spend 100K+ you can buy one... not even sure how much they cost. but seriously, wait another decade maybe. It's still too expensive to manufacture
Have to love all these people so evangelical about OLED, and throwing shade because of not using OLED. As if it's magic and the only technology that should be used 😂😂😂. The results are all that matters.....the technology is irrelevant beyond that. I have not seen one of these in person to judge for myself....but clearly a lot of TV people (on YT and online) that have seen them have been quite impressed. Also have to love how so many people think the display tech is all that matters.....as if the image processors, dimming zones etc don't matter.
Right? I enjoy my LG C1, but my 85"X95K miniLED is on another level with HDR and SDR.
So you have to have a PS4 or PS5 to be able to get Sony Pictures Core? No other streaming media players can download the app?
@hdtvtest is there any different in panel or else between X95L 75" and 85"?
Yeah it's bigger
😂😂@@karlhendrikse
@@karlhendrikse contrast in 85 in better than 75 and 65, 85 has better panel, FYI
The number of zones look awfully low in those exposed shots. Can only assume it'll still bloom in dark rooms which is disappointing in a flagship TV.
My 85"X95K doesn't bloom any differently than my LG C1 does.
@@DrakonR Any LED has some bloom. The C1 has none. However, your perception might be correct. Watch your C1 in the dark and put on some white text over a black background. You will see some blooming. Guess what? It's in your eyes! To prove it, put your finger over the white text and you will see the 'blooming' is gone! This means that OLED's outperform our own eyes in contrast which is pretty nuts!
I just care about upscaling in which Sony is unbeatable🎉
Agreed. Though Panasonic ain't too far behind imo.
Not really, lg has caught up on the lg g3. Gradation as well.’ This aint 2017 anymore but good luck telling people that. Sony has mindshare.
@@rome8602 Arguably the new G4 has better processing than any Sony to date. I'm sure they will respond though!
I mean, how much brighter does one need before it starts searing the retinas? At a certain point it just hurts the eyes. Peak brightness seems to be the MP (mega pixels) for cameras.
83A90J (2021 model) happy and proud owner. I’m confused…is now a mini-led better than oled? One thing is crystal clear: I’m never downsizing. Am I missing the new good “stuff” or my panel is still relevant and should wait for the even next development?
You have an excellent panel there good sir. I"m in a similar boat with two A80J's. A90J is more or less on par with any WOLED ever made. It is bested by the new QD-OLED's but not by a mile and none are yet available in 83" or higher. And I agree, no downsizing! The LG G4 will be substantially brighter with MLA in 83" for the first time this year. It will also likely have better processing than the A90J. But it won't have the higher color volume of the QD-OLED's. So the G4 would be your best bet in this year's tv's but if I was in your shoes, I'd keep holding out another year or two. By then we should have 3,000nit QD-OLED's in larger sizes that will really knock your socks off!
@@bearclaw5115the 77” A80J was so close to the 83” A90J in performance. 77” A80J proud owner.
This just seems like they are trying to reinvent the wheel.
😂
Making better tv's is what Sony should be doing.
@@bearclaw5115I thought the end goal was self-emissive technology? This is the same as polishing a turd.
The year is 2024 and Sony still only has two HDMI 2.1 ports. ☠️
right.... smh great picture, but you get less for the price
I guess they're meaning to say the PS5 and your earc sound are the only reason you'd need an HDMI 2.1 port.
Again, that's MediaTek's fault, not Sony's. Sony sticks with the MediaTek SoC platform because it offers the best image processing for their XR processor technology. For now, Sony isn't willing to give up image processing ability/quality just to get two more HDMI 2.1 ports. Send your complaints on this over to the folks at MediaTek, not Sony.
I would have loved to see a Sony 83" with MLA or QD-OLED (yes I know Samsung isn't making them yet, but a fellow can dream). I won't be upgrading my A80J until there is an 83" or larger that smashes it to pieces and fits my budget.
Wil there be any mini led tv with ads panel in 85 inches?
Samsung QN85D I guess has that.
one less option to look at I guess 😆
I still have the 900e sitting in the living room and a 90j maybe next year if a mini led 55” comes out I’ll be getting one
Looks like I invested into OLED at the perfect time early last year with my C2. It's already on the way out and by the time I'm looking for my next TV there will be infinite contrast mini led and micro led TVs with 5x the brightness of an OLED and no burn in risk.
I won't be buying a Sony😢
I really don’t Give A Rats Ass if you don’t buy a Sony T.V.
@user-hj6hi9ho2k Wow, you're a comedian. Must be nice to have original funny material. I still cant stop laughing. I wish you were my neighbor your so funny 😁
Yet you came to a Sony review video, why?
Mini led ftw! Oled is so yesterday 😂
isnt color better on OLED? And isnt these brightness wars pointless like 4k nits is eye searingly bright. Sometimes my s89c which is only 1200nits makes me have to squint in certain HDR scenes. i cant imagine 4k nits
Will the new sets not have some soap opera effect at 24hz with all motion smoothing settings off?
I baught a TCL 55QM8 to replace my LG Oled that had burn in, its lasted a week before i gave it to my daughter you could see the mini led back lights turning on and off through the screen
Ouch. I was hoping Sony was going to wage a 2-front battle with both a new LED panel of their own design (BRAVIA 9) and use Samsung Display's 3rd-gen QD-OLED for a new reference level OLED offering, but sadly it looks like they've decided to stop competing for the top spot for the best OLED TV, and let Samsung and LG eat their lunch. The reality is that until a LED FALD backlight has (at a minimum) over 100,000 zones, it can never come close to matching the native CR of an OLED, and the blooming is just horrible.
The A95L is still the best OLED on the market in 2024. No need for a new model
