    • i think it's when you squeeze every muscle of your body at once during an athletic rotation, to both be strong at the moment of impact and stop your core's rotation and allow something to whip and gain speed (long drive golfers, martial arts striking, a home run). i've played tennis for 30 years and i've met a lot of grunters, myself included. maybe 1 or 2 i've ever met were faking or doing it annoyingly to other players. spectators are the only ones who have a problem with it.

    • The science behind it is understandable however the umpire should call hindrance if the sound is continuing too long and the ball is too close to the oponenet receiving.

    • I think it's the most annoying thing in tennis ever! It's so ironic in a way that everyone should be quiet in a tennis match, but your opponent can grunt like a crazy no problem! Also, oftentimes, it's more moaning than actually grunting.. Don't mind the occasional grunting when maximum effort is applied. But moaning when you hit balls with 20 miles per hour? 😅 no way! Plus, you have players being so inconsistent with it. It's breakpoint, and now you grunt like Carlos Berloq😂

I tend to have one as I am loading right before I swing and then a grunt right as I swing. Let me tell you. It relieves so much pressure out of my body every time I grunt and I feel so much more relaxed which helps me gain rhythm. Mine aren’t so loud and obnoxious like others, but mine are needed or else I would be very tight when I hit.

Grunting is a big part of the game and you just have to accept it as a player even if you dont grunt yourself. Although extended grunting should possibly be looked in to, that done on purpose could really distract the opponent.

  • It tenses the abdomen, which makes the body solid, adding power. You dont need to grunt when you do this, but if you grunt, a coach can be sure you are doing it right. Imho, should be banned. Loud grunters get a warning, then get blocked from tournaments till they show the grunting has been eliminated. It doesnt bother the spectators as much as you think - when it bothers them, they just dont watch tennis in the first place. So its costly, for sure.

  • I believe it's a way to sync with all the movements to hit the ball, it feels more loose, more connected to the game, and like him said on the video, is a way to release the breath, sometimes in tougher points you hold the breath for a while to stay focus and accurate, almost like the Snipers Shooters do.

  • According to me, grunting assists in timing the ball better... The technique of two grunts is like this.... first one when ball lands on court and second one when racquet contacts the ball.. So I don't agree with your explanation.. Before first grunt, the player has to complete the preparation for shot and second grunt is the process of accumulating the breath and releasing the full energies

    @taylore2470@taylore2470Ай бұрын

    • @@LarzB I have played tennis my whole life, and breathing out when exerting power is one thing, but a audible loud grunt is another thing (unnecessary). This video explains as much also...you can see he's talking a lot about the gamesmanship part of it, not that it is necessary. Since you don't like the weightlifting analogy, just look at volley ball spikes. No outside hitter is grunting 1/2 as loud as a tennis player. It is just one of those things that sort of becomes part of a sport, oddly enough.
