The perfect motion to create power! | ONE HOUR TRANSFORMATION EPISODE 8

2024 ж. 5 Мам.
341 497 Рет қаралды

In this episode, I have a practice session with Dimitar, a 13-year-old Bulgarian tennis player with great natural skills. Dimitar feels much more confident generating power with his backhand than he does with his forehand.
In this session on the center court of the Mouratoglou Academy, we look at how to generate easy power off the forehand wing through early body preparation, following through and then controlling the power with added topspin.
Watch this video if you too want to add power and control to either the forehand or the backhand side, and become better at using this in match play. Tennis is a very demanding sport and repeating the shots with the correct motion can bring your game to the next level.
Chapters:
0:00 - Patrick x Dimitar introduction
01:45 - Stepping through the forehand
03:05 - Committing fully to forehand, inside or outside the baseline
03:35 - Open the shoulders, move forward the tennis court, hit and follow through
05:10 - Full preparation before contact with the ball
07:30 - Moving forward into the shot
09:15 - Racquet back fast, then move forward
10:45 - Keep the legs still, using the shoulder to follow through
12:15 - Controlling power
13:25 - Backhand cross-court practice
13:40 - Staying grounded on the tennis court by keeping low and firm with the legs
14:45 - Prepare, foot on the ground, then hit the bell
15:20 - Face with ball with leg forward first
16:50 - Practising without the racquet
19:00 - Practice makes perfect, now enjoy your tennis Dimitar!

  • This is great stuff. Preparation is everything and weight distribution at the right time is crucial to hitting a smooth and heavy ball. It's like riding the perfect wave, if not the ball will take control and inconsistency will occur and drain your energy and confidence quickly.

  • Great lesson! I’ve learned so much from you! There is such a temptation to use the backswing and footwork as part of timing the ball, so they all happen at the same time, instead of being completely prepared when the ball bounces, to allow the hitting motion to be a simple, powerful uncoiling, everything moving forward together.

  • I find it difficult to break old habbits such as not preparing fully before the ball bounces so that when it does bounce all that is left to do is swing towards the ball instead of preparing back further. So maybe when the ball bounces your racket can only start dropping with no more 'dropless' take back is a better checkpoint. What do you think?

    @danezu791@danezu7915 ай бұрын
    • Yes, I thought that was confusing. In many other videos, he stresses bringing the right leg forward. What might be going on here is that he wanted this guy to focus initially on stability and moving the right leg forward was a distraction.

(Forehand - you’re trying to put the guy in a closed stance so that after each blow there is a step with his right foot. For what purpose are you doing this? Is this Modern tennis? Then you want to lengthen your forehand swing! Maybe he has been training on a fast court for 10 years, hence this technique? Question: what did you work on with the guy, what did you correct?

And also, "like someone would have time to select/adjust his shot based on that" - so your understanding is that you change your shot on the fly on not in practice? Unless you are hitting all open stance, your eye dominance will have an effect, in this game of slender margins at the higher level. • I'm not buying some of this... A good transition in any sport has a portion of the backswing included in the forward swing. It's NOT forward only. Also, it's kind of crazy to say the full backswing should be done when the ball bounces, because the bounce might be short or the bounce might be deep. The ball could be slow or the ball could be fast. You should TIME the backswing just like you time the forward swing, based on the depth and speed of the incoming ball.
