Cold Weather at the Cabin | Life in Alaska

Alaska's rivers begin the yearly process of freezing and we head to the river to catch this remarkable event.
The brisk weather is a sure sign winter is here to stay. We work through snowfall to cut and split wood to ensure the wood shed is topped off and although cold and snowy, life at the cabin is good.

  • Snow never ceases to amaze me, here in Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa. The closest I have ever seen snow in my 50 years, is in a freezer before it turns to ice! It never snows here. Sun going as high as the tree line, running along the treetops, then it sinks down! Wow! Wonders of God and nature.

    • Kenya is over 3 000 kilometers away from Zimbabwe. Furthermore, in between there is Zambia, which is 200% bigger than Britain. After Zambia, you get into Tanzania, which is also a big country. The curvature of the earth allows us to see limited distance no matter from what height. Also shimmering haze, and the African heat can block views. There is no way one can see Mt. Kilimanjaro standing in Zimbabwe, no matter what height. @@pinschrunner

    • Used to work in Alaska, Sea and land. Every corner of Alaska is beautiful. The thing you notice and miss the most is the clean air. When you get back In the lower 48 states you immediately feel the heaviness of the pollution in your lungs. Alaska is worth the visit, Winter or Summer.

  • Neither of you are afraid to put in the work, that's for sure. While it may be Simple Living, it's constant hard work. I love that you both share in it equally and have such great support for each other. The love between you two is obvious and so heartwarming to witness. Great videos of the frozen river, snow covered forest, and all the surroundings. I can't wait to watch each of your videos as soon as they show up on my screen. Love you both, stay simple, stay warm, and keep loving each other. Can't wait for the next video..... God Bless.

  • That log splitter is incredible. There's something satisfying watching the woodpile grow and knowing that it will keep you all warm inside during those harsh winters. The irony is that I live in a tropical state in Australia, I have all the conveniences that city life affords. Our lives couldn't be more different. I love that your living your dream life. I'd love to experience it lol. I actually want to live away from people, no neighbours, no noise. I have created my own way of living in a city quietly. I also love the way you guys work together and you both work hard. No obvious gender divide of chores. You both just get it done. It's awesome because you guys enjoy each other's company genuinely. Fave channel xo

  • Wow! I don't think I have ever seen such beautiful snow! What great drone shots! The trees are spectacular loaded with snow like that. Down here in OK, the snow is usually wind driven and with so many open fields, roads get blocked pretty fast. But luckily, that doesn't happen much. Hey congrats, you two, that 1/2 MILLION subs is a long way from where you were when I started watching! I admire the fact that you DO live a SIMPLE life, while steadily investing in more properties. Bravo, very smart!!!

I enjoy the beauty of not only your state but how you live. I know why she wanted to go back for more photos. Thanks for the smile

  • 😍Boy do I remember stacking wood in the wood shelter! From there to the covered front deck & then to floor to ceiling area inside the house. Splinters & spiders but theres nothing like the fire of a wood burning stove for ambience, heat & cooking when the power went out. Miss all that. ❤️ your Vids so much, congrats on 500k!

  • My grandfather always had his shed and wood shed even the sidewal of the car port all stocked up well before winter even hit. Hed put a well stocked row under the car port which was sheltered but had a door going into house which made it easier for him so he didnt have to walk far to the sheds lol. Watching wood and chainsaws just remind me of him so much

  • How wonderfully odd....the overhead views of the river? The ice patches reminded me so much of lichen on stones. The brightness of the ice, against the stoney grey of the water. Very beautiful reminder that the "easy" weather is over

I have experienced real winter (very rarely) in Denmark, but I am not sure that my grandchildren will experience it in the same way here. I'm 73 now Have a good day thank you for your lovely videos

  • Starting at 17:23 up to 17:31, I don't care who you are that is probably the best shot I've seen all year! I'm relieved to see y'all set for the winter when it comes to wood and food. The only other thing I feel the need to say is to have a guide line tied from the house to the main structures you must reach. I feel like this winter might be a pretty tough one and if so, you'll need to be able to maneuver around without getting lost in a white out.

  • You both work so hard to be self sufficient. It is such a joy to witness your teamwork. Thank you for sharing your life on KZhead! Having spent time living off grid, I understand the effort. I also miss the freedom of it. My Mom needed me, so I am back in a city, attached to the grid... I saw many people fail because they did not work well together. I saw people who could not make it because they lacked the work ethic to needed to survive off the grid. So much respect for both of you!
