  • I worked for a construction company that installed an ATM machine 12 feet above the sidewalk. When our boss tried to contact the bank to fix the issue before we installed it, the bank manager was very rude and refused to listen to the problem. So we went by the blueprints. When he complained, the boss played the audio of him telling us that the blueprints weren’t wrong and we shouldn’t bother him. The chain bank fired him and paid us to fix it.

  • Very professional narration. As a V/O artist myself, I am very pleased to listen to a soothing voice which is not irritating or dominating and I can absolutely listen it for longer durations. It creates captivating emotions with subtle humour perfectly inlaid according to the clip's content and subject. Your content is very nice and original. Good luck & wishing you all the very best. :))

  • I work at a pharmacy and from the five years I've been there, the boxes keep getting bigger and bigger, but the tubes, pills, and eyedrops inside remain the same size. I cannot think of a single reason to justify this, especially since it's not like we could advertise which prescription to dispense. It completely baffles me.

  • 9:30 my local grocery store had a similar scam with single serve pizzas. The 4-pack was sold for $4.88, while the individual pizzas were $1.08. Anyone who took the time to do the math could tell it was cheaper to buy 4 individual pizzas. Apparently, it didn't take long for customers to catch on as they ended up raising the price of the individual pizzas.

  • The design flaw involving a low ceiling in a homeowner's bathroom reminds me of a Navy barracks at a large base in Sicily. I was never there, but I was told the top floor of rooms had the ceilings lower than the other floors in this building with the result that standard, "Military grade " storage lockers could not be placed in the rooms. As a consequence, occupants of rooms on the top floor had non-standard furniture in their rooms.

So I bought out a Weetbix Limited Edition Steel Box from 20 or so years ago which still had a couple of pieces in it (I was moving around a lot and misplaced my tin, found it in 2006). I compared the pieces from the tin to my Aunt's piece, yep it was definitely a lot thinner and smaller in length. My Aunt decided to keep one piece from the tin and wrapped it up and threw out the rest. She then proceed to thoroughly clean the tin and placed her own Weetbix pieces in it.

  • I've been really careful about looking at unit weight (for foods) and count (for packages) for a long time. Some stores list unit price too on the shelf labels. Potato and corn chips, cheesy puffs, etc., the bags vary so much in size and how much they are filled between one brand and another, you really have to look to know how much you are getting. I get some generics that the bags look pretty small, but they are just about full to the top (just enough space so chips don't spill out when you open it up). Compared to the name brand chips next to it it looks like you'd be getting like half the amount of chips but by weight you're getting the same or more.

  • Have I got a design flaw for you! The Illinois and Michigan Canal runs right through the middle of my city, including our downtown area. It hasn't been used in a hundred years or so and it's a state park today that runs through several cities. You can walk on the old tow path that the mules used to walk on as they pulled the barges on the Canal. Our mayor got the idea to scoop out the part of the Canal that runs through downtown. Never mind it was gorgeous the way it was. I've seen herds of deer under the canal bridges, foxes, one time a coyote. Not to mention the countless smaller wildlife and beautiful wildflowers and grasses. All gone now. The installed a pump to fill the newly scooped canal with water from a nearby river and built a raised cement walkway and bike path with sump pumps to keep them from flooding. The first problem was they didn't scoop it deep enough so the whole thing filled with algae. This caused nasty respiratory distress to anyone near it. I have to walk across one of the bridges to get to work. Half a block away, my nose would start running like a faucet. It would drain into my chest and cause me to hawk loogies all over the place. I felt bad for the people living close by. City officials advised them to keep their airconditioners running. The raised sidewalk was too low causing it to be constantly flooded and the motors burnt out. All this happened just a few days after it was filled with water. It took weeks to drain the water after the pump was shut off. I called it the summer of coughing and hacking. Now instead of beautiful native flora and fauna under our downtown, we have a mud hole (the mud is often green from the algae) and a bunch of gray concrete. Thanks, Mayor Esbach.

  • 15:00 Certain products are required by law in some places to include specific information on the box with minimum font size restrictions. Even though there are many less wasteful ways to do this, it often is cheaper to just use a bigger box across the board to appease the market with the most restrictive packaging requirements. Each box is cheaper if they are all the same due to bulk price reductions making the extra material cost becomes negligible. *This is a specific note for pharmaceuticals which whitening strips may be classified as.

  • Oh yeah, when Circuit City was going out of business, they pre-rose all their prices to considerably above retail, then started with the xx% off sales to try to clear out stores. They were a bit surprised to find out people were not buying the "25% off" products when they were still priced above full retail. Somehow it didn't occur to them that even people who aren't looking that far for a good deal still notices the "clearance" prices were not lower than Best Buy, Walmart, maybe even Staples, that local electronics store if your town has any, etc.

The content wasn't even able to stay in the tray and just slid all into a heap to one side. I wrote to the company and complained how it wasn't bad enough to raise the price but to make the product so much smaller that was obvious by the original packaging and I would never buy it again.

  • On the misaligned ceiling light; more often than not, when it comes to new commercial building construction, you will come across issues like this. My ex is an HVAC Commercial Journeyman. When it comes to architecture and blueprints, there is (1) set for the HAVC Sub-Contractor showing where all the heating and air vents are to be located in the ceiling, (1) set for the Electrical Sub-Contractor showing where all the light fixtures are to be located in the ceiling and (1) set for the Plumbing Sub-Contractor showing where all the sprinklers are to be located in the ceiling. Each set of blueprints is drawn up by three different architects that don't talk to each other apparently because 9 out of 10 times, the vents, light fixtures and sprinklers are ALL in the same location in the ceiling on those three individual sets is blueprints for those three trades. How ridiculous is that? Those three trades work on the same job sites together often enough that their foreman get together and go over their sets of blueprints together to keep that kind of bullsh!t from happening. ~ APRIL LIPKE

  • I have a story about the ridiculous boxes for stupid small products. I worked at an Amazon warehouse for a couple of months through peak season after high school. There, computers would be given dimensions of products and they'd give you a box size from those available. I had to pack some tiny items into the largest boxes we had, or packed something that didn't fit because the dimensions had been mixed up by the computer and the product would have had to be turned strangely to even get it to fit, if at all. And we got a strike if we used a more appropriate sized box, either larger or smaller, than that told to us by the computer, and too many strikes meant being fired. I hated working there. I heard that after I stopped working there they started letting people use different box sizes without striking them for it. But they still had so many problems that hardly ever got solved. I really hated working there.

I like to smell my books because they remind me of my best memories learning to read. I noticed it had ~40 pages of the book in both the beginning and end, including the page numbers, so I knew I wasn't going crazy. I returned it for a different copy, only to have to return it. This problem was in 4 copies, one after the other before I got a copy that was readable. The lady who helped me was baffled. I ended up with the last copy on the shelf. Sure, it's possible the flaw could br worth more money than I payed for it, but I wanted to read the book. Ever since, I have done a thorough flip through every book I buy.

Working in quality assurance I encounter this multiple times in a shift. Often with no stuffing at all. It often results in broken and missing products and the company having to ship the items again. You’d think this would be important to them but you see it from major retailers all the time. We repackage and return multiple items a day. Often because the retailer don’t know the process the package goes through in its journey. But, hey I guess that’s job security for me.😁

Having better educated employees may cost more, but the benefits would be above and beyond the expectation of hiring one highly educated being.

  • One rather unthought out design is the shelf labeling in some dollar stores. Where they have sales and prices for groups of items on fixtures. Failing to take into account that these sales expire and prices routinely change leaving the employees to take account for it.

  • Nintendo Switch having some games sold in cases making you think that the cartridge is in the case but when you open it, it only comes with a download code and an empty box. Car designers implementing everything including the ac controls inside the infotainment system, which you can't control while you're driving.

  • I just wanted to point out that the Warheads candy tube is so large because kids can use it as a change bank to save their money. If the pictures had shown the plastic top, the coin slot would have been shown. Tootsie Roll candies often come in tubes that double as coin banks.

  • All shipment companies do this, it’s sad, but it happens… usually when they have a specific amount of free space left on a truck so they ask for boxes to be enlarged to make sure none of the products move around during transport and get damaged…. But I do agree it’s a waste of packaging … they mostly do have options to fill space with packaging or even packing bubble… Sad but it’s true

  • When the video got to the shipping boxes that were too big I remembered something that happened while I was in school years back. One of my science teachers got some batteries I believe it was and it was a small container in a big box with tons of inflated bags inside. She literally opened it in front of all of us to show us just how stupid it was. Though I have seen my own share of designs that were bad mainly for how they didnt match. Like when you're waiting for a bus and see that one of the glass panels that tell you not to smoke in the little hut to wait for your bus is upside down, or even a simple sticker on an LRT being upside down so you have to read what it says upside down while the rest are right side up, then there was once I was riding in a bus and I happened to notice four mismatching seats. One was red, the others were blue at least but the designs on those blue parts didn't match. I sometimes don't understand how they could have thought it was all good to go and actually do such obviously wrong things then leave it as the final product.

  • A very common one that I have to deal with... as a worker in a store whose parent company makes this happen... is big bold numbers (example) "$1.99 each!" And then in the fine print below it "when you buy 4 or more in a single transaction. $3.99 if bought singly." Or the ones that go "Only $2.50" with fine print that says "with loyalty card and digital coupon". I'm fine with the specifications, but... stop that stupid big letter deal with discreet fine print!
