The fact that Khabib is not known to be a striker and stood the whole round with the best striker who was cheating and there's still an argument for it to be a draw, makes me even more impressed by Khabib.
Connor isn’t the best striker in light heavyweight! Compared to next gen Volkanowski and Yan, all lightweight strikers are shit! Connor is and was always countered easily. Dustin, Max, Nate, Chad and Khabib countered him well. Most powerful ones did drop him too. Porier is a much better striker overall. Connor is dangerous for the power, but he has never oneshot koed out of featherweight, the power too is overrated.
@@-logic6654 I don’t know bro, Rafael fiziev is looking pretty promising in light weight. His striking is insane.
connie isn't/wasn't ever the best striker. He just had overrated KO power which only translated at FW.
@@-logic6654 Dustin has basic striking down to a T and is best at one-two's but he can't handle pressure for shit. We saw that against Khabib and Oliveira. Chad or Max didn't counter him, what are you talking about? Chad wrestled him and Max lost to an injured fighter. Nate just outlasted him by being able to take more damage and have better cardio. The only one who dropped him was Dustin and that's because he spent the last 7 years thinking about that fight, remembering that humiliating loss (for him) and preparing for whenever they fought again while Conor completely underestimated him. You could tell Dustin had figured him out and used legkicks to slow him down, just like opponents did to win against Nate before. Boxing Conor is definitely not close to top 5 in the division. He has better cardio, but the prime Conor with unpredictable striking and nasty angles and timing would win 10/10 against Dustin - that is if it was a 3 round fight lmao
Khabib's striking is "sloppy" but effective. His skills have been greatly underestimated.
Conor yes, Gaethje no. But to me what stood out more is that khabib isn’t known as a striker and those are supposed to be some of the best strikers and it’s debatable if they won standing rounds against Khabib. Like whaaa?
Khabib's movement is underrated but fighters r worried about his TDs more than the striking battle.
His jab is really good. Idk if it's handspeed or technique or both but his jab is really good. And his striking defense is underrated. Those head turns helped him a lot.
That’s just because of his threat of takedowns always put a hinder on their striking.
@@MustObeyTheRules So many casuals who do not realise something so obvious 🤦♂️ Had a khabib dickrider argue he was an elite striker because of it lmao
Khabib is the perfect anti-striker since he has striking defense and grappling offense. His striking offense is only to distract from a takedown and people only get hit by him since they’re more worried about the takedown. If Khabib didn’t duck and dive from legit grapplers (prime Cowboy, prime Tony, prime Melendez, and Charles Oliveria) then I think he wouldn’t be undefeated. Tibau is the best grappler he fought lmao

Na.
@@dug1161 I think that Chad Mendes round two was the worst one for Conor.
Its weird for Conor to win in the later rounds, typically he is the most dangerous in the first 2 rounds before you see him to start to slow down. Especially after getting man handled during your best rounds. Him winning that 3rd round was completely unexpected to me.
The whole reason Khabib stood with Conor in the 3rd is because he knew Conor wasn't gonna have much on his punches. If Khabib woulda pressed for the td he woulda smashed Conor. I wish Khabib woulda g n p Conor in the 4th and gotten Conor exhausted so he could ha e ko'd and exhausted McSnapper in the 5th.
its cuz his takedown defense was shining that round....if only it shined round 1 and 2....he shouldve been more agressive those rounds....
It's exactly because he was manhandled. Khabib did almost 100% of the work in those first 2 rounds, Conor did next to nothing. So what we had going into the third was a fresh Conor vs a khabib that had just done an intense 10 min workout. Not to say that khabib was gassed, but maybe he decided to pace himself in that moment to not risk actually gassing in the final rounds.
I think the narrative that he’s bad after round 1-2 is unwarranted. People often base this off the first Nate Diaz fight, but you gotta remember he was fighting at 170 on short notice when he was preparing for a fight at 155. He was also fighting someone who has among the best cardio in mma. Outside of that fight, he performed well in R4 of the Diaz fight, and he took a round off Khabib in R3 despite getting mauled the previous round.
You could tell that khabib was tired in round 3. He put all he had in those first two rounds with the grappling to zap his energy. So he was basically biding his time in the third I think, knowing he was gonna gas soon and he needed one more take down. Which he got in round 4.. although conor was wining in the 4th before that trip take down. If he could kept standing it could easily have been 2 and 2 in the 5th. I think a lot of people over look this fact and that it wasnt the total dominance that khabib typically shows. Also I think conor still gets a lot of hate about his gas tank when this fight showed huge improvents. He went three rounds of grappling and clinch fighting on the gage with the best grappler of all time and still came out looking good in the 4th. I dont even like conor anymore these days but I actually did wanna see that rematch.. shame it will put probably never happen.
I love Khabib, he’s great for the sport in the sense of reminding us it’s MIXED martial arts but I’m glad he left . The 155lb division is as competitive as it has ever been in the sport and the fan interest is high. Had he stayed he possibly could’ve cleaned out one of the most stacked divisions of this era.
Do you think if he cleared out the LW division, he'd move up to WW?
Love your content Weasel. Agree with most of your content but only disagree with you on some of your opinions on wrestling based fighters. The thing about strong wrestling fighters, especially the types like Khabib is that, they only need to "stick" on you once and you are done. Control is everything for fighters like Khabib. If Conor didn't cheat to minimize the control by Khabib, Khabib would likely have taken Conor down in that 3rd round with Conor already against the fence. Simply subtract the strikes while Conor cheated doesn't seem to be weighted correctly IMO because if Conor didn' cheat, the probability of Khabib finishing the fight or ground and pound skyrockets. Since we don't know for sure, you can't give that round to either fighter.
You have a solid point.
Khabib would have ended it in round 2 with the Kimura submission attempt anyway, before Conor illegal knee
This is the best analysis I've came across regarding that 3rd round

How do u know

If R1 of Khabib vs Justin was a street fight with no ref, Khabib would have broke Justin's arm then probably kill him with ground and pound. Justin had a handful of heavy strikes that were indeed damaging but were not close to ending the fight. Khabib ate those strikes and continued to pressure Justin. So I agree Khabib won R1 vs Justin but he lost R3 against Conor. However it's not like Conor dominated Khabib or did significant damage. Khabib defended himself well and still made the round competitive. No body watches that fight and thinks to themselves the momentum switched to Conor going into R4 because of how R3 went and it didn't.
I actually think round 1 is more of a Conor round than round 3 because yes Khabib got the takedown but didn’t really do anything with it except land 1-2 good shots at the end of the round unlike the Justin fight where that arm bar was significant. Conor landed extremely damaging elbows to the temple of Khabib in the beginning of that round that clearly hurt Khabib because he just stayed in that position for over a minute.
@@scottc2076 🤦
Not a Khabib fan here (actually a mini hater) but I feel like "light/medium/heavy" is kinda meaningless, Khabib makes it look like all attacks are light. Especially the Gaethje, Conor, and the Barboza fights, he ate at least a couple of really nasty strikes. Like sure he got "wobbled" by the leg kicks but mostly looked like he slipped - of course his soles are not magnetic so if someone pushes one away then he can't stand in that stance. The reason khabib can take such heavy shots without taking much damage us the way he stays so loose and let's the force disperse into his body instead of tensing up and keeping all the energy in the head.
That doesn’t make sense. In order to not get knocked out, you actually HAVE to tense up (especially your neck muscles). That’s why fighters get knocked out when they don’t see the punch Coming (because they weren’t able to tense up/brace themselves). And khabib actually DOES tense up, to the extent that you can read it on his face and body. As years go by, I come to find out that people in the KZhead comment section just say whatever (without knowing what they’re talking about).
@UC4iabf2g028mfODpP5S6bog being knocked out works way different than wrestling dude. Again, staying loose will get you starched. In order to limit your chances of getting ko’d, you have to brace yourself/tense up.
Sorry, my comment keeps getting deleted by KZhead, but it's a Combat Sa mbo technique specifically for absorbing strikes. It works better absorbing a body shot than a flush hit to the jaw, and you are right there is an initial burst of tension to break some of the impact but immediately they train to relax and exhale to dissapate the energy of the absorbed strike throughout the neighboring parts of the body.
@@cristobalbalenciaga7295 Fedor would do a similar thing back in Pride.

The fact Conor cheated so much during the round takes away the fact he out-landed Khabib. A point really should have been deducted at least. It also seemed to me during that round that the reason Khabib stood with Conor was because he wanted to prove a point more than anything. He even said pre-fight he wanted to maul Conor and 'play' with him before finishing him. From my perspective Khabib really didn't care about potentially losing the round, he wanted to show Conor he's not afraid to strike with him.

When I watched this live, I got the impression that khabib was taking a break and he was never in any real danger, hence being able to slap McGregor at will. Never did it seem like McGregor was winning that round.
Conor did win that round imo but it's not that impressive since I agree with you that khabib was just taking a break that round. He needed to take it slow so he didn't gas out after beating conors ass for the first two rounds.
Yeah, Khabib basically did the striking match in that round against one of the best boxers, and nothing happened..
Except Khabib had all his takedowns stuffed. He was fatigued and knew he could afford to drop the round.
The thing with Khabib vs Conor in that 3rd round it that he was clearly toying with Conor. He knew he had it anytime he wanted to, so he was just staying on his feet on purpose (his corner was screaming at him for that, because it was definitely not part of the plan). He did the same with Al Iaquinta too. Both times he was wanted to show off a bit of his striking skills.

It's adorable when Conor or Tony fans try to talk shit about Khabib, but when it gets to the topic of losses, they have to cope about why those L's happened. Guess what Khabib fans never have to do? Cope about L's. Edit: Losses are a part of life, but don't dare try and convince me how your guy who got banged up and finished is somehow better than a guy who was never even dropped.
Khabib is obviously the better fighter between the two but Conor's legacy is so much better.
@@karlokarloo4658 how in the hell is that? He's destroying his legacy by the day
@@wynsonrao5177 nah he just was a bit unlucky in his last 2 fights i mean mike tyson had the same at the end of his career and it def didnt destroy his legacy
When I was watching Khabib vs Gaetji live, after 2nd minute I was sure that Gaetji won't win this fight. So impressed with Khabib striking. He got damaged a lot. But Gaethji seemed so frustrated. He was missing so much wasting his energy. Gaethji was humilated mainly because Khabib's pressure in striking
Excellent analysis👍
Great stuff Weasle, I recently rewatched these fights myself with a very keen eye. It occurs to me that Gaethje was thoroughly winning until he mistakenly took the leg kick (before the takedown). This was a mistake, it was mistimed and he knew it but threw it anyway with an uneven foot & poor distance. You attributed this to a good opportunity in the video. I believe had he not thrown a kick that was sure to be caught, who knows how many punches Khabibs chin had left to go...
Probably a good few. He didn't seem hurt in the slightest
Honestly, Conor did win the round. However, Conor also committed more blatant fouls without being penalized than any other title fight In recent history. Idk if I was scoring the first three rounds, it would be 10-8, 10-9 and 9-10 for Khabib, -2 from Conor for fouls.
And thats why youre not a judge. You cant take points away if the ref doesnt call it out
Yea Herb must’ve been on dat DMT wit Joe Rogan that day lmfao, the amount of shit Conor got away wit is insane
@@AceTheCapo823 -2? That's a lot man, if we include a warning halfway through the round I could see a 1 point deduction but 2 is insane for glove grabbing. If he had punched him after the bell then yeah sure but glove grabs happen all the time, Look at Oliviera vs Poirier, it happened multiple times there too. Its just a hard thing to spot at the end of the day
Honestly what? He blatantly cheated 25 seconds of Illegal methods and an elbow to the back of the head.
@@sebastianfallman9876 Actually Oliveira only grabbed Dustin's glove for about 4 seconds, Conor grabbed Khabib's shorts & gloves for a minimum ~40 secs.
Yeah we can deduct Conor's strikes while he hooked the glove, but it might have prevented Khabib's opportunity to attack too
Khabib will Always be the great “what if” of MMA.. strange that his mother made him quit considering I figured continuing would be the best way to honor his father’s passing.
what an awesome analysis! although imho that "light push kick" that khabib landed was definitely a medium to hard one cuz you could clearly see justin gasp for air after khabib connected
Why does no one ever bring up the Gleison Tibau fight? Even though the judges scored it 30-27 he definitely lost a round if not the entire fight
It's already been brought up ,check the old vids
Yeah, I'd say Tibau took all 3 rounds. Someone said, idk maybe it was Chael, that Khabib's success was owed to the fact that the elite lightweights were almost all striking specialists. I mean, when a guy's dominating a division with single-leg TDs.... We saw what might happen to Khabib in a different division when he fought Tibau. I still think he'd do well and probably become a champ, but not nearly as dominantly.
lmao 4:20 control time to tibau's 23 seconds while every other stat they were almost equal, khabib won the fight hands down.
@@bonkekunene5910 good call here is the link for those interested kzhead.info/sun/d5Z7aKd6hqhpjas/bejne.html
@@moetezouelhazi5699 UFC stats are pretty much useless. According to UFC stats Munhoz landed 37/42 legs kicks against Aldo, flush. Now go watch the fight and you'll see that Aldo checked or dodged virtually all of them.
At first, Khabib was overrated. But now it's become such a crazy trend in the MMA community to pick at everything he says and nitpick every part of his career that he's become underrated. He's without a doubt the LW GOAT and easily top 5 of all time in my opinion.
Who do you rate above Khabib as the best fighter ever?
@@krell2130 ez, Fedor.
Khabib's chin was so underrated, he would just eat up heavy shots while maintaining pressure. The definition of 'built different'
Great breakdown, and I agree with your points here
I saw a third round against Conor as a pacing round for Khabib. He knew that Conor will get tired and slower, enough to get taken down. Good tactics but lost round.
He did the same thing in the Al iquinta fight. Heck, he started jabbing in that one to show DC how much his jab had improved 😂 (I saw it in a clip of the two bantering at AKA gym)
@@ajdoku865 yeah he took the round off after he absolutely already destroyed him in round 2.
@@sochioranmyaku khabib was a true savage
To this day Conor and his simps are still salty about their loss lol 😂
"If I were to make the rules, I would look at this round as some sort of draw." That's why you let the professionals make the rules Weasel.
Hey man one thing I think you should do is take into account power like a clean left straight from Connor should count as a heavy attack because we know how powerful his left hand is
Hey weasle, why do u think Khabib decided to strike with Conor for almost a whole round? Was it because he was a little tired after going all in on conor in the 2nd round or was it because he felt Conor wasnt a threat anymore after making him work?
Probably tasted the power and realized he could take the shots.
I think he wanted to prove a point and felt comfortable with Conor on the feet. He actually attempted more takedowns in that round than any other but there were many moments where he could've shot more but chose to stand and strike with Conor.
I could give Conor the 3rd round. Against Gaethje though? No. That was Khabib's round easily.
Actually I would say it's the opposite because Gaethje clearly had much more meaningful strikes compared to Conor (and Gaethje didn't continuosly cheat, unlike Conor)
@@jonpictogramjones8278 True. Conor's cheating vastly changed the course of the round. But for Gaethje, the submission attempt near the end of the round sealed the fate of that round. I feel.
@@1994mrmysteryman Agreed.
@@jonpictogramjones8278 somehow the trained judges wouldnt see it😅
Really wish we could have got to see khabib fight a little longer . He was just at his prime top of the game . Wanted to see who could crack the khabib code
Damn I never clicked on a weasle video do fast!😂
A 12-6 elbow to the back of the head?!? They need to retroactively go back to this fight and rule it a DQ and fire Herb
You should do one of these on Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin. I think Griffin got robbed!
It’s always a good day when the weasel uploads
Great video
Hey Weasle, do you think you should score the different level of strikes with weighted points? For example, heavy is worth 3, medium is 2 and light is 1? I might make the total strike damage more accurate? Like a damage counter
No
the thing is, according to the rules, 1 heavy blow trumps many, many light ones. imo, more than 10
@@lawngjawn9982 true, but we all see the same and have to judge them by what we see. That’s what the judges do.
@@lawngjawn9982 but we’re going by what Weasel sees on these videos. Judging may not be perfect and I agree that they may not always score strikes right but at the end of the day, their the only opinion that matters because they are the one deciding fights. It sucks and they need better training and understanding, which I’m sure will happen one day due to the sports popularity, until then, “it is what it is.”
Yes to Conner but not to gaetje
You need to make note of the noise when a strike lands clean or partially on the glove, it's a lot more noticeable in boxing with the big gloves, but is definitely there.
This is a superb channel
Yes he did lose that round. But that just proves how good khabib is we to judge by a round. I lovs McGregor

People are really defensive over khabib having a perfect record or if it would be perfect if he fought more. Thanks for shedding light in this video
so winning a round is like winning the fight? i can give you a round or two just to make you feel better. Khabib still finished them both
@@lazengerotibas no one said that. It’s okay if he lost a round. Still one of the most dominant fighters ever
What a good video. Was very surprised to see Conor win that round. But you could also tell while watching it that he didn't have enough juice to finish him with any of those shots I think khabib turned up the pace tenfold on Justin because he realized his power could do some real damage. In my opinion that was his toughest fight
9:08 I saw that. That jab landed when Khabib was on one foot because he was trying to low kick. The low kick landed good and Khabib wasn't effected much. That was a medium at best in my opinion.
*Anti Khabib be like:* "Michael will beat Khabib" "Barboza will beat Khabib" "Iaquinta will beat Khabib" "Conor will beat Khabib" "Dustin will beat Khabib" "Justin will beat Khabib" "Potato will beat Khabib"

Connor cheating automatically loses him the round, not to mention it was obvious Khabib was more or less taking the round off. Anybody watching the Gaethje fight knows that if there was ten more seconds he would have lost in the first round, and Khabib was the aggressor the whole time. It wasn't even that close of a round imo. Khabib was dominate start to finish in that fight.
Hey Weasle, could you do Gleison Tibau vs Khabib in the future?
As for Gaethje's left hook at the 10:00 mark, he wasn't fully grounded with his left leg so I wonder how much power he was really able to put in that punch
f all, he barely clipped him
Conor did a whole lot of cheating, grabbing shorts. grabbing gloves, grabbing the cage and an illegal knee. herb didn't even warn him about. yet the weasle thinks we need a video to know if khabib lost a round to Conor. grow up weasle you better than this.

Khabib did a good job with spacing and playing with Conor's range to frustrate him, just when Conor thought he had him in range he'd back up or when Conor had him circling how he wanted Khabib would change direction as if saying "No, I not do this for this guy".
