I’m skeptical about the performance and software support, but it would be really cool to see Qualcomm have a competitive chip for Windows
That is the biggest problem. I got the M1 because of the perf but majority of my uses like light gaming did not work on Mac and this will be a problem in Windows for ARM.
Skeptical.... Indeed
@@OrjonZ the problem ALWAYS WAS THE SOFTWARE... in windows the left ARM will do 100 FPS and the Right ARM another 100 FPS (this in the low cheap models)
software support comes with time they have a year to prepare + cant you run it in compatability mode like what apple did with 80% of the apps
Windows has been working with Qualcomm for years. It is survival for windows. X86 doesn’t have a future. Everything is going ARM.
This is the third time I’ve seen snapdragon talking about pc , hope this time it sticks. I’ll be convinced when I could run my CAD software and RDR2 comfortably
probably not going to happen, it's ARM based, and most CAD software/games run terribly or don't even run on ARM processors. It's why no one uses Mac's for CAD.
@@samirravat yep , a MacBook Air would be wonderful, if only it could run CAD software on windows.
@@samirravat It runs terribly right now. Nothing says it will continue to in the future.
I'm skeptical of its true performance until we see real-world proof of it. Benchmarks are usually ballpark at best, misleading or deceptive at worst.
majority of the benchmarks shown are 100% true. I mean the Cinebench benchmark really shows the true speed of those cores, both single and multithread. So, the real-world performance would be around 5% higher or lower. The major factor affecting performance would be the software itself, in this case it's windows for ARM. That will take some time.
Indeed. The benchmarks only claim the performance at a specific power level, which of course means better efficiency but when the competitor chips are allowed extra power, the difference is perhaps significantly less if not negative
@@divanshu5039 Microsoft has been trying to make Windows on ARM acceptable for nearly 10 years now. It's still a pile of rubbish that has maybe 10 native apps. Everything else runs like literal shit
If this gets on mobile devices it would be insane like a Samsung galaxy tab that could actually be utilized for top quality video editing and impressive gaming
Perfect timing too because we’re getting a DCS-like game on Android called Gunship IV.
this will come on windows tablets like the surface pro series I would assume
OS and software will hold it back
Apple can run resident evil with just A series chip
@@fazril7972and? It's just a most recent thing , don't act like it could do it like forever
If this processor runs on a computer that isn't either a Chromebook or a low end PC, i would be blown away
It says it beats an M2 (not saying it will) and all of their other CPUS (which are extremely expensive), no way in hell this is going on a cheap laptop.
@@ZachAR3 I guess this is going to decently priced video editing laptops like for around 600-800$ because he said it's not made for gaming so I won't expect anything higher than 1000$
and including the fact that it used the same amount of power as i7 1360p or something and got like 2x more performance (maybe it was 50% i dont remember) so its definitely gonna be expensive and not cheap@@ZachAR3
I bet it will have fast Linux adoption.
@@maricthehedgehog bro, not made for gaming doesn't mean it can't cost more than a 1000 bucks lmao Ever heard of workstations?
As a Mac user I am happy about the competition. This will keep Apple working hard for their buyers.
Yeah.. making it worse and more expensive
Great job on this video! The 🐐 at being so informative
It would be awesome if this gets integrated as an option into the Framework Laptop in addition to Intel and AMD. Imagine being fully repairable and upgradable while having nearly as good battery life as Apple at the same time.
Also in the gaming handheld space this could be a game changer. If they make a lower end chip for the next Steam Deck or other distributors I'm gonna be balling.
Hey Austin, I’m think about getting my first of any tips or recommendations for parts or anything in general that is somewhat low price like maybe around $1,000?
What did you shoot this video on?
What was this video shot on? The detial, HDR and colors are absolutely stunning.
how many of your apps will be supported on ARM?
Nice to see all the Maui backdrops. Enjoy your trip, Austin!
Amazing, looking forward to it releasing.
What eyewear brand you using looks really good
Do you think an Nvidia Orin cut down for a 7 inch tablet could compete with the AyaNeo with Windows or Android, and could it do the same with a Full Orin in a 13 inch tablet that could sit with Samsungs and use both Android or Windows, now that windows supports both fully?
what's the phone Austin is using?
Does it include DirectX12 support
Are you going to do a comparison this computer and base level MacBook Pro M3?
All Microsoft Native apps, Office apps, Browsers, Davinci Resolve and some Adobe Apps are already native arm. Do you remember the Android subsystem for Windows, that will bring huge number of Android Apps native to Windows.
Thanks Austin for the video summarising things there. Well, the place is so nice it looks like heaven though 😍
Can't wait to see real world tests on this.
Can I just say, I absolutely cannot _STAND_ these new, floating style "graphs" these companies are using now to compare their products to the competitors. They don't even _bother_ to include X or Y axis data any more - making the numbers and comparisons they make entirely and utterly useless. They're not even _trying_ to hide their scamming ways any more!! I miss the days when companies didn't feel the need to scam and trick their way into selling products, and were at least (for the most part) a little more honest back then.
They have numbers in percents, its enough
@@yrmuq No, it's not. Percent of what compared to what, exactly? A random floating line that is "20% more" than another random floating line that itself has no data connected to it because they're both floating in empty space means _LITERALLY_ nothing. Nevermind the fact everyone by now knows they artificially fudge any tests they do to get numbers that aren't _actually_ achievable in real-case use. They're lying to your face, and you're willing to accept it. I'm honestly not sure which is worse these days - the fact they openly lie, provide absolutely meaningless and useless "data" to trick people into buying their stuff, or the fact people like yourself are more than willing to accept such shady business practises.
people have become stupid enough to be fooled by anything.
This is the business now… It’s called marketing and every company in the world does it. You’ll never get the real numbers until someone puts it through a proper test. There are many reasons why they do this and unfortunately it seems we are constantly scammed for real information.
which camera u use man, colors are so so so pleasant to watch , hassleblad is the bullshit things that makes colors so dill 😂
question do you know a cheap gaming pc for 200 to 400 that i can play i really only want it for like Assassins creed or Resident evil or like dark souls?
dollars
Sick, Its great for students who need it for vid calls and studying.
So Window programs need to be rebuild in arm to run properly? Will this cause confusion?
x86 emulation exists
need one of these with a solid state fan
Is that a video card? Or a CPU?
Will it be available in duck yellow?
I enjoy how this video has both sound and imagery.
I'm so excited about this.
Linux also has compatibility layers .
Where was this filmed? La Jolla?
I would like to see if this would be able to work with dedicated gpus
"the biggest thing to happen to WIndows in a long time" I'm skeptical. How many times has Microsoft tried and failed to get Windows on Arm to happen? So far, it has been very unsuccessful. Best case I see for this is high-end chromebooks. Really doubt we will see this as a broad success.
Qualcomm has demoed several games running natively on their chip but that might not even matter since in these days it seems that the internet browser you choose matters more than the OS itself
It'll be very interesting to see these actually get reviewed as they start rolling out over the next 6 months to a year. They're talking a big game but we have yet to see if they can actually back it up.
i'm getting a feeling ARM CPU's will eventually take over the laptop market and then jump to desktops. i give it 3-5 years for laptop takeover and 6-8 years to see desktops have them
More competition is always great!
On s24 ultra ?
More impressive than anything is the scenery behind you! Wow!
As a Linux developer and sys-admin, I couldn't give a tuppenny-hoot about the Windows/gaming performance. However, I'm very excited about the performance improvements and enhancements this processor will offer for Linux on ARM, especially as my current daily driver laptop is Rocky Linux on an aging HP Spectre.
Actually looking forward to this because battery life is the only reason I am thinking of switching to a macbook
I predict this could be a possible switch 2 chip albeit, with less enabled cores and cheaper.
Love the shirt Austin 🐤
If there is going to be good linux support and the keyboard is good, I could see something like this becoming my main dev machine. We would need something like Proton but for x86 and arm.
Box86 is already a thing. But it's not very well integrated into the rest of Proton. Besides that, I would not be surprised if Linux's ARM experience would be significantly better than Windows on ARM. Windows on ARM is probably one of the worst computing experiences I've had in recent years. It feels like you're permanently stuck in a VM without GPU acceleration for 95% of applications.
yes, windows on arm imfact is terrible. Didn't know about box 86 tho. Gonna have to look into that. Ty
@@oricat101 No worries mate :)
@@roccociccone597 From what I've seen Windows 11 experience on newer chips is much better than it used to be, because the OS is now fully native to ARM and translation layer has improved a lot, but it sucked on older devices with Windows 10. What device did you use?
@@TheTytan007 It was a Lenovo with the previous flagship Qualcom chip in it. Now Windows 11 is a horrendous UX. Bloatware everywhere and more telemetry than Chinese Spyware. But apart from that, I regularly ran into applications that don't have native ARM builds. Slack's desktop app is horrible on ARM since it's not native and the translation layer still is dog shit compared to Rosetta2. Unless you only use Edge and stick to MS word a Windows on ARM device is literally useless.
Not shipping ultil middle 2024? So they will be faster that 2+ years old CPUs? does not look so amazing to me
I think we discovered the M3 launch stats
We are headed into a insane future with all the competition fighting for our money I love this chipset the SD gen1,2,3 already showing power now the X going to kill the game
But have u met the Technikfaultier?
Austin’s vids are the one
This would be huge if true… but if we look at the actual performance of previous Qualcomm chip vs their “theoretical” benchmarks, we should probably be expecting about 50% of what they tout… which is still better than what’s in the wild now…
Qualcomm offered devices for reviewers to benchmark. Ofcause they only presented a limited amount of Benchmarks, probably only the ones in their favour, but I'm Geekbench and other Benchmarks third party Reviewers were able to confirm that these outperform the M2 Air in most Benchmarked results, probably being landing between M2 Air and M3 air. If you consider it's cherry picked, I would claim it's very likely it comes close to the M2 or even bypasses it slightly. I think the elephant in the room is the price, availability, Software Support and low wattage power consumption. The performance under load will likely be very good, in native applications
The processor is just a modified snapdragon 8 gen 2
Will this be good for handheld gaming devices?
The hardware is there, but software needs work. Just imagine a Steam Deck with more battery and performance using ARM Owo or maybe a Xbox handheld Console
How is Maui???
It seems like a perfect CPU for Chromebooks
i hope this comes to pc
Jesus Austin musy be packin, that vein in his arm is gigantic 😂
Me waiting for a video From Austin Evans and then boom😂.. A notification from KZhead
We have 4 big corporations in the race now and EVERY SINGLE ONE is claiming to be the fastest now. Lololol
Qualcomm really needs to bring their A-game here. Nvidia and AMD are hot on the heels.
yall gotta charge that fly for "air" time on the channel js
Whoa. This isn't mystery tech!
Can't say anything untill it starts shipping
The chips have been find and cool and all but if Windows doesn’t go all in on supporting it and translating x86 then it’s not going to be good.
I'm really looking forward to these new snapdragon processors, especially 8 Gen 3 and X Eliete! Using 8 Gen 2 has seriously been a blessing for me, the best processor I've used so far with amazing battery life and thermal control.
Speed
What will a laptop powered by x elite cost considering the price of m2 max...
It won't be overpriced like Apple I believe
@@SAMK1Apple isn't really overpriced unless you are a poor 😊
@@POVwithRC says an Apple fan boy
Bro ease up you look tense! XD
I hope the valve deckard will have one of these chips!
After hesitating for 3 years, I finally got a Mac this August and now Windows on ARM is getting better. Yikes!!! Glad when I'm on the lookout for a new laptop it can again be a Windows one. Hate to pay thousands of dollars for a laptop with only 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage in 2023.
Claiming things is always easy. I am sure that it will not even be close to the performance they claim.
m3 coming out tomorrow so lets see😂. intel 14th gen and ryzen will also come out in early 24 so it will be a nice competition
Well it came,(im writing this comment after apple event) and in order to make their CPU look good Apple kept comparing it with m1, while this one from snapdragon is beating m2 so there you have it.
Windows is useless on ARM but I want some nice ARM notebooks with Linux and native running applications!
Good to see a new player entering the chat....
I just wish that the time these companies spend to make software ARM compatible I wish they also spend that time to make it Linux compatible instead.
It is going to have the same issue every other attempt to move Windows off X86, from winCE to winRT, which is the ONLY reason anybody uses Windows is for X86 Win32 programs which will have to be run through a translation layer which has always made them either not run at all or run like 💩💩
We've been seeing these for a few years now, and Chromebooks have actually seen a lot of use as cheap and functional computers for education and light work, but until the compatibility layers become really great, more software is developed with it in mind, and they don't cost a pretty penny, it wont take off for another few years. That or if we suddenly see a Renaissance of Linux/Android/ChromeOS work software and games.
ARMs processor in Laptop and TechImma1st
IF they make an equivalent..layer...like Rosetta it would be a miracle (I'm a windows guy) BUT my fear is the...cloud..aspect of this, cause it be a privacy/security nightmare and thats a NO NO NO for me.
They do have something similar already
malcolm?
On-device AI will only be used for trivial tasks and very specialized problems, not for generic generative AI like LLMs or high-res image/video generation. To give an idea, GPT-4 is rumored to require a minumum of 400GB VRAM and runs of the state of the art hardware with incredible speed and memory bandwidth. Having said that...this chip is pretty amazing. I'll finally switch to a linux laptop after years running a macbook.
holly smoke your in my backyard.. live it up man 808 all day long
Crazy
I am really curios, if that is possible and Windows can be more faster (unexpected).
Sure !
3:01 awkward pose to show-off this laptop because they flew me and my camera guy here in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1
All I could think of during this entire video: "Rubber Duckie, you're the one. You make bath time lots of fun."
A 2nm M4 will be out by the time this releases 😭
Latency to a data center is not why ai systems are slow.
This will get us low-energy demanding laptops. Just. Please Microsoft FIX the ARM Windows.
Having the great hardware is useless if the software (Windows Arm OS) has to be up to the challenge and in my opinion right now it is not, not even close
I enjoy moving pictures.
Didn’t you already do this video?
Let me know when gaming works
already outdate because of the M3
m3 beat it sortly after and u can actually get it now
My love for x64 runs deep
The catch is windows blowing chunks on arm currently
if its a SOC, its gonna slaughter the competeition, lol.. i'd soooo build a snapdragon pc
Finally PC2 will come out
