I'm pinning this response to an earlier commenter since the concern over the use of any amount of garlic in dog food is thought to be very harmful to dogs. Rick Wordford has written a blog post on this subject and explains how in proper amounts garlic can be beneficial without causing any adverse health effects. Here's the specific response and a link to Rick's blog post: "David, thanks for expressing your concerns. I reached out to Rick and I would like to share his response about the supposed dangers of feeding dogs small amounts of garlic, a subject he acknowledges is controversial. First, we spent some time with Rick (see also: The Dog Food Dude Abides kzhead.info/sun/pJmfqbyMqouErXA/bejne.html ) and he has spent a considerable amount of time researching and compiling data for what to feed healthy dogs from home prepared food and has written a book on the subject. One of the bedrock principles of toxicology is the concept that "the dose makes the poison," meaning that many substances (take iron as a human example) is a critical mineral in order for our cells to function. Too much iron in the body however, and it will kill us. Here's what Rick Wordford says about garlic for dogs and a link to a page on his site with more helpful information: ( dogfooddude.blogspot.com/2013/08/is-garlic-safe-for-dogs.html ) " I actually did a blog post about it a few years back." [from some published sources on the internet ], "15 to 30 grams of garlic per kg of body weight is an incredibly excessive amount. There are many other foods that would cause health issues when supplied in the same disproportions. Holistic veterinarians recommend garlic for it's antimicrobial, antibacterial and cancer fighting properties. In addition it can deter fleas. I've converted all types of garlic into an easy to use chart in the blog post to know how much is safe for different size dogs. I hope this will help set your viewers' minds at rest." " 13
Small amounts of garlic and even onions will not harm a dog at all. Dogs have survived and thrived for thousands of years eating whatever people had to give them. Our dogs pretty much eat what we eat. (We don't eat processed junk so they don't either) What you made here is just fine.
Also you should add the egg shells to the blender for calcium.
john McKay I was thinking of mentioning that too.
Maybe some mackerel for omega 3
Fully agree. I always smashed a clove of garlic into the meat and my dog eat everything and he's ok after eating it for a long long time. I don't put garlic when there's no meat, eg: if I cook only pumpkin & potatoes with broccoli & cauliflowers. I thought garlic is good for health.
ok I just finished making these for my dogs, had them cooling in the muffin tin, pop to the shops , hubby came home , eat one, and said "if there is any left over after dinner can he take some to work "lolollololol he wanted to know why I was laughing so hard. the dogs a just waiting to try one and drooling next to him , still laughing
Does he bark lol..
Jacqueline Cutting 😂😂😂😂🥰
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wonder if she ever told him...
Hahaha! I had 6 Great Danes that I made their food. 90 lbs a month. Took all day. Anyway I put a container in the fridge for next morning. Lol my son and husband came home late and ate the whole large container of dog food. Next morning over coffee they asked me what casserole I had made. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t speak. Finally I told them it was the dogs food and that now the dogs had to wait for another container to defrost. The shock on their faces was priceless but then my son speaks up and tells me , it was so good only needed salt and I had better keep a eye on the dog’s food because he might get it again. Not! Too funny. Anyway carrots and potatoes are very hard for dogs to digest. I used a pressure cooker to break down the vegetables all the different meats were raw. Big beautiful Great Danes that lived long lives without any of the nightmare health issues that they say large dogs suffer from. All animals are suffering because of commercial pet foods. That’s a proven fact.
He started cooking for his dogs when one of them was diagnosed with cancer. He did some nutrition research and used the concepts that are applied to human cancer patients for his beloved 4-legged friend. He utilizes a lot of ingredients that contain anti-cancer properties. If he has an hour of spare time to make homemade food for his dogs for the week, why shouldn't he? We owe our animal companions at least that much...
Thank you, this looks great and easy. I was told by a vet that you should add 1 tsp of Bone Meal per pound of meat to give any missing/needed protein and vitamins. Hope this will help someone else making homemade meals for their dogs. Thank you for the recipe.
I would add two of the eggshells to make sure there isn't a calcium deficiency and maybe add 2oz of beef liver so there isn't a zinc and/or copper deficiency.
Damn you know more about dog health than I do about my own
Dude is a quack
I said the same thing why didn't he put the egg shells. Make he don't like the idea since humans don't eat it
I have made this recipe a few times for my dog and he loves it. I made it with sweet potato instead and I added home made eggshell powder that I made myself. Kaizer loves it!
I LOVE the muffin tins. What a great idea for portion control
left out the seasonings and my dog loved this recipe. Thanks for sharing
I love the muffin tin idea! Thank you
Thanks food farmer! I love the cupcake method you use for portion control . Your dogs coat is a testimonial to your recipe!
Outstanding! Also, so glad you took your ring off too... I rarely see that and it drives me crazy!
Sounds great, and easy! Thanks!!!!
Wow. This looks great. Thank you! ❤️
Thank you for putting it all together! I'm gonna take a leaf off your book ...inspiring... thanks
Awesome recipe! Thank You!
To all that are concerned about garlic. I have 7 big dogs, they watch ten acres, and run on thousands. I have wild garlic growing. I noticed years ago, when dogs were only puppies, that if they spent their day chasing squirrels and other critters, and eating them, the dogs would go over to the wild garlic and eat the top greens. It settled their stomach, I am assuming, but they all ate the garlic. Animals know better than we do about what they want to eat. One of those dogs I finally lost after 18 human years, from old age.
This is very interesting that the dogs ate garlic tops
I've always read that garlic was toxic to dogs. In fact, I've never read anything different until this very KZhead thread. So, in that case, I'll just consider the other hundreds of articles I've read as accurate. I don't think it's worth the risk. And it's not like it was agenda-based to hurt the garlic industry lol.
Thanks for this great video. We are going to try it for our puppy Leo.
We switched to a raw diet for the same reason you started cooking. My Toy Poodle was very sick at 3 years old, and I spent a ton of $at the vet, to no avail, so I looked up natural diets. SBoth dogs were eating store dog foid. Both went on raw, and she immediately got better. That was 3 years ago.
Great video. Thanks for explaining each ingredient and what it's providing. I prefer watching recipes in real time without cutaways after each ingredient. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful and gorgeous dogs!!!
i think i will try these, the ingredients sound great.....👍🏼
Yum! Sounds delicious. 🤗
Very heartwarming video. Your dog's look beautiful and healthy
Today I'm making another batch of this for our 2 little ones. It's a HIT, added to the other ingredients of course! Thanks again!! :)
this amazing , my dog don't really like dog food so I started cooking for her . this a great idea. thanks
Jocelyn Cerezo ...give other foods....giving dog food is like eating plain bread for 50years for us..make some tasty rice and fish..definitly your dog like that
I made it and my doggies loved it!
I like this . My dog only eat dog food and this video is very helpful thank you. Another way to make my dog enjoy his food.
great video hello from australia im going to try this and thank you again
I follow this recipe and my dog loves it. I substitute the beans and potato with mix vegetable. I also put fresh parsley instead of garlic powder. then I put everything in the food processor.
The mix veggies substitution is fine BUT the potato is important to have the carbs for energy. It's okay to substitute brown rice for the potatoes if your looking a substitute tho. Good for you for taking the time to prepare healthy food for your dog.
How could someone put a thumbs down?!?!? Guy is cooking to save his dogs life
+aftheducatifreak Then he's either doing it wrong or not doing enough
Cuz some of the ingredients he put actually poisonous to dogs like garlic. Onion also poisonous.
It's not classed as poisonous, but it still gets my thumbs down
Garlic and rosemary are pretty bad for dogs
Saving lives by giving dogs garlic. Smh
Awesome advice thanks
the shredding part is so satisfying
They look so healthy .i cook for my dog as well he loves it .
WOWWWW! I'm going to start following all your doggy food recipes as soon as pup is old enough! How wonderful. I have MS and hearing that your Dog was cured by what he is eating blew me away.. Thank you sooooooo very very much for sharing your Doggy meat loaf recipe!!!

i think it is very tasty and healthy thankyou for your tips
A friend of mine was a qualified homeopath. She gave her Schnauzer a daily garlic capsule. The dog lived healthily well into its teens!
can you post a link of the food processor you use?
Great video! Thank you. Only jealous about your kitchen, we do not have this space and comfort in NYC
Great idea
love your videos! helped my dog a lot. went from eating dog chow only to fresh foods only. :)
Nice video i love it
Sounds interesting and yummy..
i made this for my dog and they loved it
hey this workz really well :D
I also make dogs food with fantastic result.Fully recommended.
Awesome!
Eg shells are great for dogs as long as u make sure u grind it up till it's really fine
This looks good for me to eat ! Lucky dogs you have
Excellent
You seem like a very nice guy that has his heart in the right place. However, you really need to pulverize the veggies, as though you were finding the veggies/plant matter in the stomach of an animal that has chewed the food with large back molars/teeth. Also you really should double the amount of meat that you have there. And the eggs should include the shells. This would make your dish more balanced. One last thing your russet potatoes should be replaced by sweet-potatoes.
Nice I think your right!!
I agree, well said. You need to have your own channel :-)
How nice of you to cook food for your dogs. I cook for my dogs too and they are healthier, happier and it adds years to their lives.
Great video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Parlandealey Pets Yummy Process (just google it)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering healthy recipes for dog food without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy at very last got great success with it.
Potatoes cause starch and that equals a yeast problem in pets. Too much yeast is like rice, potatoes, yams, cookies all create sugar which adds to yeast in pets skin and paws and groin. causing inflammation.
This meatloaf looks good, gotta do it for my cocker spaniel. he'll sure love it. Thanks for sharing.
Check out different recipes, this one is not quite healthy or safe for dogs unfortunately. its a good idea but not well researched. Ways you can do better than this guy: Add half the eggshells in with the other things grinded up dont use powdered garlic, juts use the natural clove. And don't add potatoes, the starch causss yeastin the dog, and the skins of potatoes can be harmful to the dogs health. Do add in some select oils, and carrots and broccoli. And Avoid fruits of all kinds.
Please do extra research before tou start tour pups homemade diet. This recipe is unhealthy and can make your dog sick with the potatoes and garlic powder and lack of vital nutrients. Natural garlic clove can be used in small amounts. And potatoes should never be added. Especialy the skins. 💚
Hi +RickWoodford... I been doing this recipe for my dogs... I have a boxer who has really bad allergies and always has to have benadryl. but there's still a problem, her hives won't go away fully. I change to grain free food when we first took her to the vet, but even that has not made a progress. I'm in need of advice.
Fantastic
Tx u . I am trying this tomorrow
Best daddy taking care your dog to be healthy and strong dog
that is a beautiful dog.
Loved this video! That said, the most important part (for me) came at the end! You cured your dog of cancer (or worse) ❤️ This is your protocol so I’m going to follow that, for sure. I have a golden retriever and they are prone to dying of cancer. Thanks for saving my dogs life (in advance...she’s in perfect health right now).
Ziggy3339 maybe add turmeric to the mix as well.
Marilyn Russell sounds good. 👌🏼 I take it for arthritis anyway.
Great!!
I follow this recipe and my dog loves it. I substitute the beans and potato with mix vegetable. I also put fresh parsley instead of garlic powder. then I put everything in the food processor. thanks
I will try it and I'm sure this is much better than any dog food for sale
Excellent clip! I have the excellent news for all of the puppy owners: You can make your puppy stay longer to 8.3 years by modifying the meals they take in.
good show. I just switched to homemade food for my Boxer and she now eats it all. Stools are much improved, smaller .. she's finally absorbing nutrients and not crapping everything out. Bagged dog foods, kibble, is poison. Thanks for sharing!
So excited about this recipe! If I use mini muffin pans, would that change my cooking time?
Cute dog!
Thank you for sharing this recipe. My pup is very picky eater. I’m hoping she will lick the bowl clean when I make it tomorrow :)
Can you use the egg shells if you want and what is the rosemary for
Cherly I agree. White potatoes are not good for dogs but sweet potatoes are the best. The skin of any potatoes are hard for a dog to digest. I am with you on the kidney beans, I have always heard beans were very bad for dogs. I am going to do some research on that.
Thanks so much one question does it make tartar on their teeth?
Thank you
hi I have an 8 lb 16 yr old yorkie, are you sure i would only feed him 1/2 of one of these per day? i'm going to be switching him over to these but i want to make sure of how many-thanks so much
I think this recipe is excellent and it was great to bake the way he did in muffin pan. I ate one too with my 2 dogs, was delicious!!! Oh, I peeled potato skin tho..🤭
Add in half those egg shells to the grinder so your dogs get calcium. Use normal garlic not powdered. Use way less potatoe and or use sweet potatoe if you're gonna cause potatoes.
my friend has a german sherped mix and she feeds it rice grounded up with a cooked hambuger is that healty?
Looks like great food! I just wanted to ask a quick question, the portions you gave towards the end of the video, are those measurements in addition to dog food kibble or a diet solely on the homemade food you made?
I was wondering the same thing. Our dog is 14 lbs, 1/2 of a tin doesnt seem to be much food?
How long will they keep if I freeze them? I have a chihuahua and this recipe looks great! Thanks :)
Me too, always Im cooking food for my Dog, its more healthy🐶😍.
I too would like to know what brand of food processor you're using. I've searched and can't find it. Will you please post a link. Thank you.
I'm sorry, but I do not know. This was filmed a number of years ago and I no longer have contact with the kitchen we used. It looks like an older model of a Kitchen Aid, but I'm not sure.
This looks good... Lol I could probably eat this myself.
MEATLOAF BALLS for dogs RECIPE: -2 1/4 lb GROUND BEEF in a bowl Then in food processor, put: -4 eggs -1 can kidney beans -1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon -1 teaspoon rosemary (or a sprig) -1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder *(don't add more as garlic must be limited to safe amounts as explained in his Comments Section!) BLEND & ADD TO GROUND BEEF Now, put a shredding blade in the blender and shred: -2 Carrots -3 medium Potatoes (with skin) *ADD TO GROUND BEEF MIXTURE AND MIX TOGETHER *ADD MIXTURE TO MUFFIN TINS AND BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 55 MINUTES *(Don't overload or it may spill over while baking. Can place a cookie sheet beneath for protection) *IF MAKING IN A LARGER PAN OR MEATLOAF PAN, BAKE 70 MINUTES AT 350 (when finished, you want approx.155 degrees with meat thermometer) -Let cool and serve or freeze -Stays well in your refrigerator for 3-5 days -(Each muffin is approximately 300 calories, ((less calories than a cup of hard food, he says)) SERVING SIZE: He recommends: -For a 10 pound dog, about 1/2 a muffin tin -For a 40 pound dog, about 2 or 3 -larger dogs can have 4 or 5 **Personally, I add calcium powder I make from baking egg shells, and then blending in a coffee grinder (so dogs get their calcium). I give my 30 pound dog 1/4 to a 1/2 teaspoon calcium a day depending if they eat hard food as well (which may also have calcium in the ingredients). You don't want to overdue their calcium, but it is essential to their daily diet health.
Can u mix it with there regular food
nice!
Like his style
Rosemary IS good for dogs and garlic is OK in small amounts, if dog is young and healthy. EXCEPTION IS; you must avoid garlic before pet has any surgery or takes NSAIDs pain relievers, there is a risk of excess bleeding in some animals . Leave the egg shells in for calcium phos balance with the rest of the egg. Egg shell should be dried in low oven and powdered then added back into food. I liked your video, thanks so much. Happy for your dogs return to health
Hello good sir, garlic powder? Bad or not bad for dogs
What vitamins do you put in it?
i wish i had machines like yours! it takes so much time to blend and chop up the carrots and potatos!!!
Beautiful fur baby :-)
Thank you so much...for the idea in muffin pans....I would use brown rice not the potato...
Was finding the carrots in my dog's stools (undigested) so I've substituted green beans, peas and corn (in equal amounts and processed). I also don't use solely beef. I put in one pound of ground beef and one pound of ground pork.
The Bible Skeptic Corn is not good for dogs. It also doe not digest and it can cause allergies in dogs. Use the green veggies.
Also, don’t use pork. It has too many worms in it. Use beef and ground turkey!!
Never buying a bag of dog food again, I don't like eating crap from bags and neither should my German Shepard Zeus. I shall prepare him food fit for the gods from now on, and thank your for posting this video!!!!
Can used Venison to make it?
How much for a 20 pound dog?I have a 20 pound chow chow so should I give it 1 in a half he is also 13 weeks old?
I definitely want to try this!! Thank you 👌🏽 my question is I’ve heard garlic is not good for dogs!!
leave it out it's so little my God these people are nuts
look it up..fleas hate it
Hey is garlic good for dogs???
Yeah it would, you have to divide the time according to the size of your muffin pans compared to the ones he uses (ex: if its exactly half, reduce the time in half)
Going to make these for my dogs.
Dont use potatoes or garlic powder. (Can use tiny bit of natural garlic sometimes) Add half the eggshells in the grinder. And add in oils and vegies like carrots broccoli and spinach.
Hi I'm new to this app..I'm a great grandmother & greatgreat grandmother
