  • lol a Warbow is totally different than a compound, I have shot a 160 pound war bow. These things take time to build strength for. I also have special workouts for this type of shooting if your interested, but one thing I will say, do not at all whatsoever use the compound archery form, warbows require a total different type of archery form. And historical archery is a great guy and he’s a good friend of mine. He’s an absolute beast with shooting heavy bows and not too many people in the world can do what he can do. And it gets strung with a stringer.

  • Looking at the history of Asiatic hornbows, there was a bunch of records of tests(regional battle readiness tests)and people were able to pull back and shoot 240 lb bows for war. In fact in The records it says Bows for children are any bow under 60 lbs. The most common draw weights were between 85 and 140 lb. The crazy thing is is these bows were fired from horseback... In the testing they had a special award for someone who could shoot a 3500 grain arrow 110 yd. This usually required somewhere around 135 to 150 lb bow

  • The 200 pound bow is made by a guy call archey bowman on ebay. I have one of his 75# bows. He regularly makes bows way north of 100 pounds as the typical English warbow of the medieval times were around 140 pounds draw. The arrow you shoot traditionally at these high draw weights is wood dowel 1/2 inch thick that tapers to 3/8 in thick at the ends. I think the weight is like 1500 grains on them. The guy you watched regularly pulls 170 pounds bow and the guy he mentioned, Joe Gibbs, also typically shoots a 160 pound bow, there's a bunch of videos on KZhead with him

  • with the bowfishing bow, he was using a split finger draw and pinched the nock between his index and middle finger, causing it to pop off the string, and he dry-fired the bow. With those shorter bows you kind of need a release because the string angle at full draw is too much and will often pop the nock off the string.

  • This is my first video of yours. Have you never heard of Joe Gibbs? He is THE archer! Guy shoots a 240lb bow fairly often. I am just getting into archery to learn it the medieval way with the hopes of getting to an 80lb longbow. I've got injured shoulders so I'm using archery as my way to stay healthy, so my first bow is only 25lb but its built like that 200 in a longbow style. Exciting stuff, I want to learn to shoot with the arrow on the inside and the outside, since both were done historically in war.

Right up until my bow grip hand slipped and the bow came back into my hand. The 1/2 inch thick string guide pierced right between my middle finger and ring finger between my knuckles about an inch deep on my right hand. It took a year to heal….. • the chap with the two hundred pound longbow? very interesting fella. "to serve in the Saracen army an archer must be able to shoot three arrows in under one and a half seconds" or words to that effect. remember when that ancient manuscript was found and everyone in the modern archery world dismissed it as wartime propaganda, which to be fair made sense and i for one didn't think much more on it, it made sense. then Lars Anderson did it and everyone said "yh but he uses a twenty five pound bow, he's a trick shooter it can't be done with a warbow". i really Wish i could remember his name but that chap with the two hundred pound longbow is one of a few who have done it on a warbow. by the way, i as an englishman born and bred over many generations am about to assure You the english longbow and archers were not the best in medieval times, not even close, that accolade on both counts belongs to the ottomans. their bow is undoubtedly the pinnacle of recurve bow design, ok i don't have a manchu bow but they're a little on the long side for i liking however the fact remains that pound for pound the only bow i have which outperforms the ottoman bow i have is the compound bow. so yh the pinnacle of medieval recurve bows is surely the ottoman sipahi. the modern Turkish traditional archers still learn and practice the same way. they start with an extremely low poundage bow with which they first learn the technique for drawing before they are even given an arrow to use. once the technique has been learned and practiced they then receive a slightly heavier bow with which to throw at a close range target. this is known as torba training. the range they start at is their outstretched bowhand with the bow held out by the very end so it's the length of the bow plus the arms length. bare in mind the bow is usually no longer than four feet. they teach to throw a minimum of sixty arrows per session until they can hit the bull at such close range every time, then they graduate to three arrows in one bullseye with each arrow touching the others. at that point torba training becomes torba practice, done daily with a minimum sixty arrows thrown. traditional, no sights and no centre shot bow. the thinking is if we can accurately throw the arrow that close then we won't miss at range. it works. saved the best for last. torba is done with both arms, sixty on each hand so the ottoman archer just like the modern traditional Turkish archer is ambidextrous. so yh, easily better than the english longbow or our archers...
