    • @@ozroad I saw this on Netflix as a bundle of short titles and was really surprised to see all the works by Oats Studios here for free on KZhead. It had me doing a deep read into Neill Blomkamp and the new VFX technology he's using to pull off these works. It's incredibly scary to see how good VFX is now and programs like Unreal Engine are completely free to use. I may as well hang up my boots and lay in my grave.

I guess we'll have to accept that it's part of an awesome movie that was never made. • Cliche the main idea may be but that theme of desperation and fighting despite this desparation is brought to life really well. Let alone the world they created, especially the enemy is terrifying and well thought. Since this is only the first episode, and free, it is like a stuffed trailer or a big ad that yells "buy me", nothing actually happens. We cannot say how the entire story will be, it might be garbage because of charcters or plot in future episodes or it might be epic who knows. Truly this series, by its world idea and concept, has a great potential from this episode.

I imagine releasing on netflix or... whoever is still competing against netflix in the streaming content market would have been less lucrative. Not being crass, obviously if they're releasing content with this production value on KZhead, they're more interested in growing their audience than in making money.

Depending on the success, views and likes each short gets, big studios will be able to choose the best ideas to invest in. It's a great idea that results in a win-win-win situation: We watch great shorts for free, Oats profits from ad revenue while testing ideas, and studios are able to choose which project they like best and got the best reception on KZhead and Steam.

But the villains were one-dimensional and cartoony (Jodie's over-the-top French and Hugh Jackman as a violent corporate thug) and the plot wasn't enough to sustain a feature-length movie. District 9 was the only one that worked, but remember that Blomkamp worked with Peter Jackson...

    • Johanna Tiemann Well, firstly it's totally understandable that they do not have such technology because the human population is getting close to zero. There is a scarcity of both resources and space for advanced technology. Even if they could build all that, they might just prefer to save time and resources. Maybe they are afraid of being spotted or find little use to such brittle tech. Similarly how many science fiction explains it's retro-futuristic design with the lower cost; higher trustworthiness and repairability of analog computers. Also, it makes sense for the aliens to concentrate it's attacks on factories, military facilities and cities. That is even shown in the film. The brightest minds fell under the attacks first with them. The pyromaniac is an exception to that exactly because he used his skills for evil and, as such, did not die with the rest of engineers, mechanists etc. Tl;dr, i know, but please argue with me.

The story centering around Hicks (starring none other than Michael Biehn) who gets woken up out of hibernation by a special forces warship (from Hicks home base) who answered the distress call made by Bishop in the second movie. The special forces unit inform Hicks that the base has been over run by the Aliens and they had escaped seeking to find assistance when they came across Bishops distress signal. Hicks is meant to lead an fight to regain control of the base. Apparently Bloomkamp had been given the green light to start production but shortlu after announced it put on hold. Now we know why. It's kind of hard to take your opinions seriously because you provide no evidence or reasoning to support your case, so could you please do so before just saying, "Yeah this sucks" without saying why it does?

    • Blomkamps movies has something in common with Terminator and Predator, his movies take place in present time. There is no need to creat a whole cgi world, the thing that ruined most movies. Many people like also big fights (many characters and/or a big scene) and that means a lot of cgi

      @pivn7204@pivn72046 жыл бұрын
    • Pi VN that is partly true and I concede that there are scenes in movies that would be incredibly difficult to replicate without prominent cgi. However we were approaching a near mastery of practical effects with films like T2 that had huge futuristic settings. Unfortunately the dominance of cgi has left the practical fx industry a shell. Given enough interest and support I thing even the fx heavy sci-fi of the future could be made fare more practically. Do I think this will happen? Probably not.

    • TheJ4KE Blomkamp would have done a much better job, he's younger, has more enthusiasm and originality. Scott knows he can just milk the franchise dry just by his reputation and name, people will watch. once it's milked dry, then he will give it to Blomkamp. Personally I think Blomkamps ideas are more developed and real.
