In the near future, the capital of Sweden has turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. We join four soldiers on a routine mission in ‘Zone 3’, with the assignment to investigate an old surveillance tower that just went offline. That’s the setting in first-time director Andrée Wallin’s short film, who also wrote and production designed it.
Produced by Claire Fleming, the film was shot in London with an international cast, while all exteriors were shot in Stockholm. The VFX is done by Goodbye Kansas (goodbyekansas.com)

what a shame that 8 years later there is not second part. I just found it , and found it impressive
Humans go insane from CGI and turn into zombies !
Fr tho
The dialog could use some work, and they need a military/combat advisor.
remaking it with A.I. Image to video!
where is part 2? i cant find it
Pro tip: When in combat we typically don't unbuckle the straps on our helmets. Also, if you are using night vison goggles you do not turn on white lights, that would be painful/pointless. Otherwise, great film.
I would think even regular people would have known those things... apparently not the director
Exactly my thoughts,
Is not real guys, a fantasy film

@@daddycool889 yes it makes easy target as well
That shot at 3:40 was such a flex for the CG Artists, and I love it. The camera, lighting, and detail of that damn ship. Amazing work between both the CG and live-action.
Those CG artists knew EXACTLY what they were doing throughout the film, put the video in HD and boom, free wallpapers for days.
but sadly it would be horrible at flying and consume so much fuel
@@brycebarboa1573 Lol, considering it's a fictional ship, we can't really say how it's powered, or where they get resources from. It seems to be optimal enough for them, in their world.

***** You're kidding me right? This is terrible compared to the movies that you can see at the cinema. And the writing was so cliche and cheesy that I was heaving the entire time.

Danlu05 ***** It's cliche that zombies get intelligent?
ArmyOfCamels Yes, even that is cliché. Every single thing in the movie was cliché.
Danlu05 If you say so
you know it is ashamed when many of these low budget movies are better than much of the movies out today
cause low budget do it for the love of cinematography, high budget movies do it for profits
Agreed
yep
theonepredatorxoiix what a philosopher you are...
And when the low budget concept films have more of a plot then the constant remakes of today because they've ran out of original ideas.
Aside from a few minor inconsistencies, this was actually really good. A continuity expert would iron these issues out, if the idea gets picked up, so I'm not overly concerned by it. All in all, I was impressed by the concept.

Thank you everyone for all your comments, support and feedback! It means a lot to us as we continue our jorney with State Zero. When it comes to the lights on their suits - as these soldiers are not facing human enemies they do not need traditional camouflage. Keeping small LED lights on the suits is important for other soldiers to quickly be able to spot their human colleagues if they get attacked. This short film was done on a shoestring budget by a very passionate team and was meant to hopefully spark interest among people online and within the industry and your support so far has been incredible. We believe that there's always more room for immersive post-apocalyptic stories and we're working hard to bring you more State Zero. So stay tuned and once again - thank you for watching!
+State Zero how did you do those great vfx. You should make this a series.
+State Zero thats what I was figuring too. So it also means their enemies are not primarily relying on visual signals to track their foes?
+majest33 That is correct.
+HoldShiftt2Run The vfx were done by Bläck Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. We are currently working on bringing you more State Zero.

Antonín Trešl hi
Eh...hi?
CGI is good when you don't be distracted by it. Like in this short.

This is the very definition of "epic". The music was just enough to put a "chilly" feel to it, and the acting was fun to watch. I want to see this as a series! Great job!
I've watched a lot of these sci fi shorts and always been impressed at how well produced they are. Loved thestory line. It would be nice some time to see a doc on how they are made, as one of the striking things is the scenery and locations where they are shot.
Yes, the twist ending was great! Now I know what the mRNA shot is for!
The Division meets I Am Legend.
that movie is bad... no it suks
The division basically is I am Legend, but without dark seekers
This is Aliens, line by line. The only thing missing was the APC.
pretty sad you are only able to reference what you got served "recently"
hidecki I didn't get an Aliens feel to this nearly as much as I got an Aliens feel. This spoke moreso I Am Legend and Division to me because of the general thematic elements (a quarantine zone, trained spec ops soldiers with bright orange being a central part of their character, and zombie-esque humanoids that avoid the light and are a result of human experimentation). It isn't because The Division and I Am Legend are "newer" additions to the fiction theatre.
I like how he puts on night vision but uses his flash light on his gun
The older type of night vision does not work in total darkness it amplifies light. You need moonlight other wise thier useless we use to turn on parklights of vehicles when using night sights
Peyton Voight look up how night vision works and you'll get it
There are covers we use in the military that make the light from our flashlights invisible to the naked eye but can be seen using our night vision.
Louis Blom yea but the first area entered there’s enough light to amplify beyond that a diffused light would be better and be more tactical But I get it looks cool and spooky in a film to have high beam flashlights on guns
LOL! I caught that too!
And here I am, almost 6 years later, watching it again while still hoping for a continuation...

I don't think he is being rude at all, so I am not sure what is up with the name calling there Sven. It was very well done, but I agree with him, they're the creatures from I am Legend. Similar plot twist too, in that they're humans and have intelligence. But still, very well done and enjoyable.

The first scene was of an injured or deceased citizen, John Ericsson(Subject #25) being revived and subjected to the “Transformation Protocol” by scientists sanctioned by the State, which was apparently seeking to create either a class of enhanced proles, facile laborers without the intellectual ability to object to heavy or repetitive labor, or a sub-human class, possibly useful as soldiers, who would blindly follow the orders of the State. John Ericsson is dressed in street clothes, and is shown a picture of himself with a woman he is close to. He appears to have been injured and his clothes are disheveled. Because of the posting of photograph of the couple in front of him, it is implied that he was responsible for some harm that has befallen her, perhaps her death, but we aren’t told explicitly. However, the “punishment” is non-judicial, quick and extreme. Whether the other subjects were deceased, or grabbed off the streets or arrested for some social transgression, the end result for them is the Transformation Protocol. We are supposed to assume that some of the surviving subjects of these experiments escaped, joined together and revolted against the State. The State says they are non-human invaders to be eradicated like rats. The soldiers believe this. The returning of the I.D. Bracelet to the surviving soldier was the sending of the message that the “enemy” are basically human, that the State had lied about the origin and nature of the problem, and that the transformation experiments had worked better than the State anticipated. The subjects had gained increased physical strength and sense enhancements, while retaining their basic humanity and their abilities to think, plan and organize. Very well done. Hope we will see more of these. To the producers of State Zero - Watch out for the continuity errors pointed out by others; those errors will diminish the perceived or “internal” credibility of the movies. After all, successful fiction relies on the willing suspension of disbelief (according to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, ca. 1817).
How are we supposed to know all this back story? Is there a book? The movie makes no sense, is extremely DARK and is difficult to hear and understand. Pros made "The Gunfighter" This looks like the Blair Witch project made by high school kids with lots of money.
I don't think so, I think they put subject #25 into the infected population with control over his mind, yet still infected. He is changing the others. They showed him the picture while injecting him to make his human side trigger his mind to stay intact while the injection took over his body. When confronted he gave the bracelet back to the soldier so that when he reports this situation they will know their vaccine is working.
So did the black dude survive?
Anonymous98 the retuning of the ID bracelet was also a clear message that the subjects who are part of the Transformation Protocol are sentient beings. Probably more so than they were before they were changed...hence the last soldier not being eviscerated and set free. For an amateur/indy short though, the production and filming was pretty darn good. Just clean up some of the technical faux pas and its a golden.
@@bigblupro No, its not the case, bc had it been so, the rest of the soldiers wouldn't have been killed.

Hollywood should be hiring more of these directors. They've got more and fresh ideas than those other directors that make Baywatch into an action movie.
AHH NO
It's not a directors' problem, is the producers and executives that make the decisions and choose what scripts make it into actual movies.
Not that fresh though. I immediately thought of I am Legend when I saw the enemy and its motive
@@MalakianM2S When it is mainstream they will make money; same problem with music. Creativity could be a risk to the shareholders value.
Benji Wong c’mon Beijing, Baywatch was epically funny. Who doesn’t like boob and dick jokes? Lol
You know when something is good when 16 minutes has passed and you barely noticed it. Great short vid - much better than many big budget films I've seen.
Andree Wallin is an impressive artist and storyteller. I’ve been following his art for many years now online and I didn’t know he made a short film until now. Super cool!
Short films like this are better than those multi million dollar franchise films because the ones who make it put their heart and soul into the work something long forgotten by Hollywood....i look forward to the next one
And the stories are different. I get tired of the same old plot lines being rehashed over and over again.
Today's Hollywood are just a political weapon to insert the western value to the world, not as great as old Hollywood anymore
I agree! Films nowadays are often SO predictable, they're written to a formula, there's no mystery anymore. These shorts are like a breath of fresh air!
its also a hell of a lot easier to make an action packed 16min film than a 2hr one lol
Good to see good writers have some place to go with creative stories. Hollywood turned to comic books, then they ruined even those stories when the comics did them better.
the awkward moment when shorts are 100 times better than multi million $ hollywood movies
Yep. Industrial Light and Magic gas nothing on these dudes.
What's awkward here is YOUR CRINGE UNORIGINAL COMMENT
Because shorts are made from passion, and hollywood movies are made for money.
Awesome short! This definitely needs to get the Code 8 treatment and get adapted into a feature length film.

Custer Incredibly beautifully shot and professionally done in all aspects, its entertaining but it's just that it doesnt bring anything new to the table, i just blends whatever has been out there the last couple of years.... everything that every kid can think about that is; post-apocalypse, zombies, tactical teams in sci-fi dresses in dark corridors with flash lights. Is it really that hard to be more creative? There must be ways to explore new territory.
There is alot of untapped talent out there, been watching these shorts all day.
This is a great short film and I KNOW that during the sweep at the tower's base, they use flashlights for the audience and the camera, BUT I did find it counter productive to have nods and flashlights to see in the dark. Great Film! Absolutely visually stunning.

well that was freaking awesome!
Wow
BRILLIANT visuals, from lighting to set design to effects and CG. Amazing work, there. Your writers, however, should be taken outside and seriously roughed up. They used every tired military-movie cliché in the book, and it _ruined_ this short for me overall. I hope all of the artists move on to excellent creative new products. I hope the writers consider alternate careers.
Jeremy Rice Yes very corny dialogue and characters
Luke Pettit "Thought you'd never ask"
Jeremy Rice Came here to say the exact same thing and was hoping someone already had. Thanks, Jeremy, well put.
Jeremy Rice Agree in everything except it didn't ruin it for me. Its a budget short, I am willing to look past such things. But yeah next time around don't: -talk about mission briefing at the last sec. Audience doesn't need that much info and its utterly unrealistic. Reads like a video game mission briefing or very clumsy screenwriting. -don't point guns at each others -don't use flashlights and night vision -give the dudes a little edge, cut some eyebrows fame acne scars - something - these pretty boys didn't look like they had seen much. -avoid the cliches like rookie hazing when on a mission or sergeant smoking a cigar (I know he didn't here) This unsolicited bitching aside - a great piece and congrats to everyone involved!
Jeremy Rice Have you ever considered that sometimes the writers just don't want to present some super twist and just want to make a nice simple action sequence? If every writer tried to create the next big twist then shit will get tiring fast. Sometimes you just want to watch a nice simple movie about soldiers fighting monsters and relax. Sometimes you just do not want your brain fucked up.
Love the color grading of this

My biggest regret in life is not following my dream out of high school and continue filmmaking. This was the 70s. I had to slice Super 8mm together and make the sound track separately. People loved the stuff. The college I attended had an excellent film department but I folded to pressure and pursued another course. I think about this all the time. You made this 7 years ago and it is incredible; I hope you are still doing it. Ex-military had a few minor issues with tactical stuff but most of their comments about the short itself were very positive. You have a gift, and I hope you are continuing on this path. "IN A WORLD where humanity has been reduced to running DOS--on MONOCHROME SCREENS..."
hehe
Servers and hardened equipment frequently use DOS like command line interfaces to save resources and eliminate problems from UI elements that don't really add any functionality. Adding the software and hardware for a UI only adds more things that can break.
DOS faster, easier to change code, less key strokes, need facts not pretty. COSTCOs platform is in DOS for that reason

"Hey let's turn ordinary people into vampire-looking rage-killers. What could go wrong?"
I really appreciate the thought that went into the basic situation and reasoned outcomes. For example: Well equipped, capable soldiers that take counter measures as a matter of course. The Anti Viral shots, the dropping of decoy canisters, the seismic sensor placement... all on a ROUTINE mission. The conflict and resolution are not due to stupid soldiers making a crap ton of mistakes, but due to being simply outmaneuvered by something unexpected. Keep up the solid writing!
