I realize it's quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream newly released movies online ?
@Ramon Jack lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it on google :)
You watched the same video I watched before coming to this one.😂
Go back to selections please ❤@@ramonjack6784
This is actually simple! Last "simple" box video I watched required a table saw, a router, and all sorts of fancy techniques with them - this is much better for a beginner.
Thanks I’m glad I was able to help you
Seriously….., they all do!! When I got started in all this I got so frustrated with this as well. I couldn’t learn much because I didn’t have the “right things”. I think most people just focus on showing off what they can do versus actually teaching. And that actually goes for many things here on KZhead. Nothing wrong with that, though.
My "top" was a DIY video where the guy said "and now we just need to weld these pieces together" and pulls out argon welding machine. And the part itself is something you could by for 10 bucks MAX at the home depot (Leroy Merlin)
Yeah they are all cabinetmaking shows that have a hatred of nails. In most cases nails are fine though.
Thanks David, first "simple box" video that I have viewed that didn't pull out a 3D printer from under the desk.
Lol ya I know what you mean
thank you for the tutorial, most other videos i found teach how to make basic box using a profesional tools 😂
glad i could help. i try to keep it simple and easy.
@Denny Yep. Search 'build simple box hand tools' and you get a table saw with router attachments lol Now I need something simple to show how to make a hinged lid
@@DavidsDiyReviews Yes indeed. I am a beginner and i just bought my first impact drill and a grinder to start with. This channel is very helful for beginners like me.
@@eliasblanco3374 thank you im glad i could help
Exactly. Beginner’s $3 wooden material with thousands dollars power tools. It will only discourage some or most people away.
I am so glad to see you using hand tools. It's getting to where people are reaching for cordless power tools for everything, even to screw in a single screw.
Ya your right. Sometimes it feels good to use hand tools. Builds a lot of skill aswell. Thanks.
Nothing beats the sound of a hand saw :)
Ya no kidding
Excellent video where you actually feel after watching that you can go and make it, because you have the basic tools. Thanks.
Thanks I’m glad you liked it
love how you are using hand tools . nice job
Thanks . That is kinda what I try to do for ppl that don’t have power tools
Finally a basic video for someone like me that can only use a basic saw. I want to make a cantilever base cover for The ugly sand base. Im going to try it
That’s awesome m glad it helped
Happy to see regular people out there who realistically have the amount of tools the COMMON person has! I don't have the luxury to buy all the "toys" to fill my shed
Thanks and ya that was the idea of the channel
You sold your soul
As a 'frustrated - would love to be able to make a simple box' woman, I found your video and love you describe the steps so clearly. I feel like I can have a go now. It's just to make a bee hotel for my garden but it's something I want to make myself. So thanks for the great video 🙂
Thanks im glad I could help. Also tho I have a bee hotel video on my channel.
@@DavidsDiyReviews Oh, thank you for that! I will check it out for sure 😁
Thank you for posting this without crazy expensive tools!
That’s what I was going for. I’m glad I could help
Finally, a channel with only hand tools!
I know right
Hands down the best beginners woodworking I've ever seen.
Man thanks so much. I'm glad I could help.
Awesome, you are the best. When you pulled out the hand saw I was stunned
Thanks glad you liked it
I started DIY woodworking just over a year ago and I have learned so much from your videos. I made the phone holders as my very first project. Thanks so much for all that you have taught me!
thank you so much im glad i could help. keep it up.
Cool masonic tattoo!
Thanks
Thanks so much for this! I'm making some flower arrangements for Christmas and just settled on using rectangle wooden boxes for a couple. Your tutorial was the first one I came across and I was ECSTATIC to see you using hand tools because that's all I have available. And your guidance is perfect for a novice. A new subscriber here and a thumbs up! I am new to woodworking and look forward to learning from you. Again, THANK YOU!!
Thank you . I'm glad I could help. keep up the good work gurl.
I had the same reaction - thank God, no table saw! I don't know why so many videos labeled "simple woodworking" think you need the type of shop that a master carpenter has. I'm just trying to learn some skills doing small projects using scrap wood and my dad's old tools. Thanks for the helpful tips.

Finally. Saw hammer and nails. As a beginner lm already tired of perfect dovetails and joinery l just want to make a nice box without having to spend thousands on tools.
Ya I hear ya there
Truly a beginner video I think this will be my first project I can afford all the tools and have some already!
That’s great I’m glad I could help
Thank you. I saved some steps by having the wood cut for free at Home Depot. I am making mine to fit under the television to raise it up higher and hold DVDs. Again thank you.
thats great im glad i could help
Very simple thank you. Am just starting to learn it. This is a great starter project.
thanks im glad i could help
Thank you for making this video and for keeping it simple. I am fairly new to woodworking and I do think that learning how to make wooden boxes is one of the best ways to start learning about woodworking. Almost all of the other videos on building a "simple" wooden box involve using a table saw, a router, a miter saw, and other tools. I have learned how to use my new miter saw, but I am not ready to invest in a table saw or a router yet. Your video - showing the basics of box building - and doing it with no expensive power tools - is great. I have subscribed.
Thank you do much. I'm happy you liked it and glad I could help.
Suuuuper helpful! Thank you

Nicely done and 'old school' at that.
Thank you
Kudos!!! 👍!! Excellent video!!! I worked with some "kids" (15-19), a while back. Great bunch. I flippantly said, "Well, need a wooden box for this, now...". ( Tray sized, like 18x24, 4" sides.. your same box, just two bottom boards wide...lol). Stuff was available....they were suprised Mr.J could just "Whip up a box... just like that, Dude!". Lol! I'm glad I know how to nail some boards together, and if need be, I can also pick up a rock for a hammer!! 😂.
thats great. glad i could help.
GREAT video! thank you sir!

This is so helpful . I really wanted to learn how to make stuff without a power saw because I’m accident prone. I’m wondering what the best over all handsaw would be to get. I’m a painter and would love to cut my own panels and make kit without always asking busy people.

Hi David, I wonder if you could recommend which type of hand saw I can buy which will cut both planks of wood, and wood logs which are no more than about 6" diameter please? I'm a complete novice and just want to make some bee boxes and hotels. Thank you 😊
Loved it
Thanks so much

I'm guessing you're a Mason from that compass tattoo on your hand? I guess you can't quit now with that tattoo! 😁
GOTTEEEM
what a question dude.. LOL...
I like creating things. You make it look so easy. I wanted to make a 7 feet Ana some inches rectangle box with wheels on each corner, that be 4 wheels and deep to put my 7 feet Christmas tree in. I need 2.
Just go for it I bet once you try you might realize you can do it.
I want to make just a box frame (no back/bottom piece) is it possible with flat pieces on the corner Or do I need to cut angles? I will use glue too
Nice video Brother! 🧐👌🏻
Thanks
Thank you for this video! If the box I want to make is thin and long, say 6ft by 1ft, should I change something in the way I make it? Like thicker pieces to make it more stable for example, or putting many more nails and more frequently
Glad I could help and you might want to put some kind of bracing inside if it’s that big. Just what ever looks like it makes sence .
Very good job sir
Thank you I’m glad you liked it
Hi David, thank you for the video. I was wondering if you had any advice on a small project I'm going to be doing similar to this. I am making a box for my father for Christmas to hold a set of books I bought him. The measurement for the box is 8" high...6" wide and 5" deep. Any thoughts on the material I should use? Thank you
If ur going to stain it I would use pine or somthing with some nice grain in it. If your going to paint it then possibly Poplar like I did.
Thank you for this. Question though, if I want to stain/ varnish my box, is it better to do it first then assemble it or vice-versa?
I would do it after it is assembled
Great video. I was going to make an enclosure for my air compressor would all this still apply?
Yes it would
I’m a beginner joiner which started tech in September. My main struggle is cutting straight. Any tips on how to keep maximum straightness while cutting?
i would say draw your lines as much as possible and check often to see your on line. Also make sure to hold and use the saw properly. I have a video on my channel on that topic or just youtube it and see what comes up for the type of saw your using. Like always though you will get better with time. Keep at it.
@@DavidsDiyReviews I learned that I mishandled the saw ..
@@pygrosguy16 glad i could help
try using the entire length of the blade when you cut. also stand as straight to your cut as you can. finally just practice practice practice.
@@DavidsDiyReviews thank you much..
How did you meashure the end pieces; they obviouisly have to be wider than the the bottom base piece?
It’s the width of the bottom piece plus a the thickness of the wood you used on each side
Am boxes using masonite as base with half inch sides my problem is I measure check then cut the four sides to fit masonite bottom on top of square frame, and it always either too small or too big. They are only beginners boxes to put tools in but it's frustrating it's never right. Too big I put the bottom and cut the fraction off and file smooth. Too small I have to recut more masonite. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong. Ps I pretrial and screw sides and nail bottom only because that all I had.
try measuring and cutting the two long sides first. then set them in place or nail/screw them in place. then measure for the two short sides. it is always going to be very hard to measure and cut all four sides right away. keep trying you will get it.
Can you do one with a latch and hinges?
Maybe one day but it won’t be anytime soon
If I want to use my saws all, is there a reason why not? Also what would you use to put a shelf in the box?
A sawzall will be tough to make equal and straigh cuts. For a shelf you would just nail and or glue a piece in where ever you want it using the inside measurements if your box.
Do you think this would work with something bigger? I need a 54cm wide box thsts 14cm high and 36cm depth
Ya definitely just increase the dimensions to fit your needs
Free mason
My over thinking brain needs this
I hope it helps
Sorry if I missed this but what kinda wood are you using for this project?
Poplar but you could use any kind
What type of wood was used for the bottom and sides?
Poplar
can you add a top to this? I'd love to make a tie holder for my partner out of this kind of box!
ya you could. i dont have a video about it though.
I got a question could If add a lid on top of this box could i put sliders on them so i can open the box?
Ya you could xo that
I would like to ask if I want to make this and carve a small heart and put it on the side how would I go about that?
I’m not great at carving but once you have the heart I would glue it on with wood glue
Can you make one with a lid? How could I make that for this box
I have not but you would just make it to the over all dimensions of the box
How would you make a 11.5x11.5x11.5 box with a lid to use as an urn? The niche it is going to fit into is 12x12x12. I cannot find one to buy that is that size so I am going to make it. Also what would would you suggest? Odd request I know. It is my request to be buried with my dogs ashes hence why a normal urn will not work for me. Thank you for the help
U just have to do the same process but with your dimensions and if it’s for ashes and will prolly never be opened then I would just cut a piece for the lid that is the size of the box and nail it on. Also if it’s for ashes I would glue it all as well as nailing so that it is air tight
@@DavidsDiyReviews Thank you for the help.

Hi David, Every year since my children were born I would do a Christmas eve (cardboard) box filled with goodies, pjs and a new Christmas ornament, this year my oldest daughter is moving out and will have her own tree and so I would like to make a simple keepsake box that she can take with her that will have all the ornaments she's collected throughout the years. I would like to make 4 in total (I still have three babies at home) youngest being 6 so I have many many more years of xmas boxes to fill lol. I would like to make the other three boxes as a repeated personal xmas eve box instead of buying a new cardboard one every year, and then same plan they take that box with them when they move out. My idea for size is 16''L x 12"W x 4"H (outside box measurements) Could you please help me figure out the right size cuts and what wood and thickness I need to make the boxes?? I have never made a box before and have no idea what I'm doing but I found your video pretty easy to follow, and I think I can do this with your help. Thank you for your time Kay
I would use d4s (dressed four sides ) like I did. It's 3/4" thick. So make the two long sides 16 x 4. Make the short sides 10 1/2 x 4. Make the bottom 10 1/2 x 14 1/2. If you do that you will end up with the dimensions you specifyed.
Which kind of wood did you use?
I used poplar just because I had it but if your buying wood I would get a soft wood probability pine. If you did want to go hard wood tho you can but I still wouldn’t use poplar.
are butt joints quite weak in strength? nailing into the wood grain?
depends on the wood and the grain where your nailing. for the purpose of a box like this it will be fine. glue would also make it stronger however glue on end joints also isnt the best.
hi I was wondering do you use a jig saw
no i dont
Where are the instructions? I dont see them in the description
there arnt really instructions but the dimensions are there so you would have to use the video as instructions.
That is really nice! Do you have a video of how to put dividers in the box and a cover on top with hinges? I hit the like button and subscribed to your channel and I hit the bell. RENMAN
I dont have a divider or lid video but i will make one at some time. thank you so much for you support tho.
I came here for a refresher because wood is so expensive and I get cutters stress😟
Ya no kidding lumber is crazy expensive right now. Im glad could help you.
You mentioned don't cut the sides at the same time, because your saw "will bend"? Don't understand what you mean. Thank you
Greeting from your own home. Peachy said make a cat box. Meow
ya i could
I always hide the ends with the front and back, hiding the end grain.
good tip for sure.
You sound like you can teach me how to train a dragon as well
I Def can not.
Nice. But what about making the top???
I was thinking of making another video on how to make a box with a lid. This is supposed to just be an open box.
@@DavidsDiyReviews thanks for the reply 👍 This will help a novice like myself regardless. Good content
Maybe in another video in the future
Cut a 3/8 inch slot into the sides and ends with a 11/32 inch tongue. When you glue the sides together the bottom can float freely without being attached to anything.
tt is supposed to be more of a simple box for beginners but that is a good tip.
No glue?
No. It didn't need to be that song. If you wanted more strength you could use glue.
how would i make a lid?
cut a piece to the overall dimensions of your box. then nail some small strips, maybe 1/2 x 1/2 on the bottom to fit the inner dimensions of your box opening to hold it centered in place. add a handle.
Could you do a hinged lid? Do you have to adjust the size of the lid for clearance when the lid is lifted?
Where are instructions? Don’t see them
They should be in the description if I scroll down just a bit under the video and press show more. If there not in there I must have forgot
I may have forgot
Bro i my stupid ass chose to use a knife instead a saw it took me 3 hours and it's fucked up
