  • I have a ONE YEAR OLD..this week was his birthday ….Havenese. Tango..he is the best…many of the same traits as Pistachio!! Plays by himself..smart..loves to chase balls and the frisbee..and brings them right back! He has the most energy of any dog of owned! …so his fetching helps me wear him out! Best of luck to you and your family!

  • I really enjoy your videos...I have a five month old Havapoo/Poodle mix and she is sweet, but very active. My husband and I both work and I leave for work at 7:30 a.m. and he leaves around 7:10 a.m. Since we got Hazel, I immediately started her off in a playpen in the living room and at about 9:00 p.m. we turn in, which means she turns in. I find that about ten minutes before 9:00 she looks at me as if she expects to be put in her pen and given her little ball which I put some of her dry kibble in for her to snack on each night. So funny how they get used to routines so quickly!

  • Just adorable video of your Havanese .. I saw a dog groomer care for a dog of the same breed of yours, and I started looking up information about these adorable puppies. 🐶 please don’t mind that I share this with you. I noticed that when you got a delivery you let the puppy, pistachio, which is such a cute name by the way, play with the plastic insert packaging. Please don’t do that I know that I’m not seeing the whole video. You’re probably only let the dog play for it for a moment but it’s just so unsafe. Anyways, besides all that just such a lovelyand fun video that you sent all the best to you and yours and the new baby on the way. Thank you for posting.

    • Training is a labor of love. Encourage with treats, it'll go faster/smoother. My 1 yr. old is "Sweetpea". We love her SOOOOOO much. Make sure you start training her to "Inside" for if/when you travel and have to put her in a carrier. Took about 2 hours and she got it, just give her a treat each time she goes in; also give the pup the sit, stay and laydown command while they are in there.

  • LOVE THE VIDEO. I have a 1yr old girl Havanese. What times do you feed her? How much 1 cup of hard food for the day cut in half? Our baby, starts off in bed with us then when dad comes and we've nodded off, she gets down and lays in one of her two beds. We don't crate anymore; she won't "go" until the morning unless she's sick or just once in a blue moon but we have a pad where she knows to go. AND...a Daddi's gurl indeed!!!!!! We're preparing her for her 1st flight in a few months and she is trained to "Inside" to get inside her carrier. What a cute name Pistachio. Do you groom yourself? We do but we keep her top hair long even though I love the short, I may cut it down a bit but I love a cute bow. Anyway sorry I'm so long. Enjoy your baby!!!

    @Samiam173@Samiam1735 ай бұрын
    • Likewise, 1 yr old Hav/girl. Same bed routine and we don't crate, she'll get down and sleep in one of her 2 beds. We feed Cesars pouches...1/2 pack am and pm with a small scoop of hard cesars kibble. Question: How do you maintain matting. We try but have to cut her bare every 6 months so far because its' unavoidable even after brushing everyday. Thanks.

  • That was great! And I'd love to see another "Day in the Life" vid. I may get a Havanese, and I'm curious: would she be happy sleeping in the bed with you if you let her, or do you think she'd still prefer her crate?

    @kevingold1091@kevingold109111 ай бұрын
    • Thanks so much Kevin! For our girl, I genuinely think she’d choose the crate. She’ll snooze on our bed for a bit but the moment we move our feet she bails on us. But that’s because she’s slept in the crate 99% of her life and that IS her bed. My brother has two havanese who sleep on the bed every night and love it. Just depends on your lifestyle and preference! But crate training non-potty trained puppies I personally think is essential :)

  • I'd love to know what products you've found useful, like chew toys, dental sticks, the object that you hid the dental sticks in and what food you use. Also, do you have her in a puppy cut? And how did you find her groomer and her vet. What size and brand crate do you have? Any other of this type of information is greatly appreciated.

    • Hi! Our treat rotation is Dentastix, small soft training treats (brand varies), and soft square treats (usually Blue or Wegmans brand). We love Benebone chew toys. Our favorite puzzle toys are Snoops and a Kong Wobbler. Yes, she has a puppy cut! I tried two highly rated groomers I found on the internet and the second was our favorite. We have a Diggs Revol crate in small. Check out my “Puppy Gear we actually used” video - I think you’d find it helpful!

  • Too cute! My goal for our 5 month old is to play outside off leash like yours. I’m scared he’d run forever and keep going. How do I get my pup to play like your Pistachio?

    @michelletarazi2872@michelletarazi287211 ай бұрын
    • It's a struggle for sure. Depends how clingy your pup is - all the male Havanese I know don't want to be out of sight of their owners and off leash play comes pretty naturally. For our girl, she will choose the nearest squirrel over us and we have had close calls with her dashing dangerously close to streets. Because of that, we use an ecollar for off leash/un-fenced fun. We took a class to learn how to use it responsibly and that's our go-to with her now. Ecollars can get a bad rep when they're used improperly or recklessly, so make sure you do your research if you go that route. I wouldn't use them for all training, but they've given us peace of mind that we can keep our girl safe when outside if she slips away from us. Also, long leashes! Like literally 30 foot or 50 foot to practice recall and also just see how your boy will do off leash. He might be a natural clinger. :)

    • @@backtobreeality, thank you! May I also ask about two topics that worry me please? Do you give the monthly no flea/tick/heart worm ? My dog is literally at the bottom weight recommend for a tablet. He’s 11 pounds and the vet wants to give him the dose 11-22 lbs. Also, what dog food do you recommend? I’m new to this. Thank you for your advice.

      @michelletarazi2872@michelletarazi287211 ай бұрын
    • @@michelletarazi2872 we do give P her monthly flea/tick and heart worm prevention consistently. And I actually agree with your vet here, so let me tell you a story that might make you feel better! When P was a puppy, she was 11 lbs and we gave her the 10 lbs and under stuff flea/tick med just trying to use up what we had and thinking it would be fine. Then we went on vacation. And she came back with FLEAS. Those fleas haunted us for two months, and were so difficult to get rid of. It sucked seeing P all itchy too. We actually switched to a flea collar for 5 months instead of the liquid since we were having such a hard time getting rid of them, and that helped. BUT, I tell you all this because I think the catalyst was giving her flea/tick med even one pound outside her weight. Your baby will probably do best with the 11 lb + one. That’s just our experience, but I’m hoping to save you from the same flea nightmare :)

    • @@michelletarazi2872 I got carried away sorry - your second question! We give her Purina ONE +Plus Dog Food, Small Breed, Adult. When she was a puppy we used Purina puppy formula and she was neutral about it. She likes this one better because it has lamb chunks.

    @conniehill4851@conniehill485110 ай бұрын
    • I’m so sorry for your loss. I won’t be sharing the breeder we used since I’ve learned some questionable things about their business since we got our baby. If I were to get another Havanese, I’d likely look for an AKC credited breeder or a rescue. I’d ask also more questions, like how many litters has the mom had (shouldn’t be more than 4-6)? Can I meet the parents? How are the puppies socialized as they grow? I think it’s easy to forget that as the future parent of that puppy, you’re entitled to know where your puppy is coming from and how the breeder manages their dogs. If a breeder won’t accommodate those questions, it’s sketchy to me. Also, puppies should be raised in the home with the rest of the family, not in an alternate isolated environment. That’s a red flag for puppy mills. Those are just my personal thoughts on choosing a breeder!

  • I'm looking at getting a Havanese but have read things on a forum that this breed is very hard to potty train. Is this something of a problem with the Havanese? Thanks for any feedback.

    @laurelpeddie9787@laurelpeddie978710 ай бұрын
    • Hi there, I’d check out the Trained Havanese Facebook page if I were you. You’ll see lots of testimonials from real people who own havanese and see the diversity of potty training experiences they have. Small dogs do take longer to potty train than big breeds. Pistachio was accident free by 10 months, but she had a steady decrease in accidents leading up to that.

      @backtobreeality@backtobreeality10 ай бұрын
    • Training depends on the trainer. What works is repetitiveness, rewards and patience. Now the barking......that's still a work in progress.😬

      @Samiam173@Samiam1735 ай бұрын
    • My Wookie is 2.5 and she still has accidents although not as frequently. I got her at 5 months and I'm pretty sure she was not trained by the breeder. She wouldn't potty outside for the first week I had her but also refused to go on a potty pad. My Maltese can hold it for 12 hours. The one great thing about Wookie is she hardly barks. When she does, it's pretty cute.
