This is the full performance of Green Day's surprise show in the NYC Subway station with Jimmy Fallon the 16th of January of 2024. The live was played acoustic in it's entierty, and Jimmy Fallon plays the tambourine during the whole concert.

I came of age in the 80s. I'm a heavy metal, hair metal guy. Green Day was the only band that grabbed hold of me in the 90s and kept hold of me.

I L❤VE THIS SO MUCH. They mentioned it on Howard this morning. Music brings people together and forms a unity. I didn't realize just how much I love their music till today. It reminded me of my daughter who played it all the time and took me back to when she was a teenager. Fun Times!!!! Before and Now!!! THANK YOU GREEN DAY!!!!

They’ve got to do more of these surprise concerts what a joy it was watching this I couldn’t even imagine how great it was being there.
Wow! It’s so beautiful how this isn’t even Green Days crowd, just random people passing by but they know the lyrics and sing their hearts out.
Seeing so many people were recording while they were still in costume and had not played a note yet. I have a feeling some sort of text blast or email had to have gone out to at least 50-100 people. I wonder if it is just friends and family of Jimmy's show or if some hardcore Green Day fans are on some special list as well. When it truly is random people in videos like this there are more people walking by and ignoring it until the reveal.

Interesting to see this angle. This is anything but impromptu - the size of the crowd and the direction from the wranglers show that folks either new about it beforehand, or are used to waiting at this spot for Jimmy to do his thing. Now all of that said, I absolutely love this and love that Jimmy gets his friends & guests to perform in this fashion.

Yeah, great angle. Got to see some of the production that went into this "spontaneous" event (i.e. interns waving the crowd into place). Really interesting.
Its impromptu. Its just that ppl prolly caught on by now that when theres a band set to play in that subway, its Jimmy Fallon with a famous band or musician. Hes done it other times before

So many people filled up the station before they even knew it was green day. They must have known something like this was happening? Even if it wasn't green day? I can't imagine people just stopping their lives for some random band. Also imagine if people could just experience this without their phones. I would've loved to see this in person not through a phone
Agree with you there. If i go to gigs or sporting events, i dont wack my phone out to stick in the air. Its just so stupid that people dont wanna see anything with there eyes but through a phone. I sti wish all these smart phones and hi tech stuff went away. And bring back the days how they use to be
Until you're old and life flies by, you will learn to appreciate photos and videos when they are the only things left of that person(s) and your experience(s). Oh and it's entirely possible to enjoy a show and film it at the same time. As a professional music photographer myself, taking photos helps me appreciate the performance better and I use the photographs as art, as a form of expression to show how incredible the artist and show is. I also take videos at shows so I can savor the memories, because when its all over, it's over. That's it. We are so lucky that we can record and savor anything we want. I met my favorite singer of all time in 2021 and recorded every bit of our conversation. Now I have this precious video to remind me of the best day of my life. Because did you know that out memories deceive us? Over time, it is a scientific fact that humans start to forget the details of events that happen in their lives and these memories slowly fade. Most people will actually create FALSE memories- they will believe one thing happened when in fact it did not happen- and we will continue to believe in this false memory because we don't have proof that the truth exists out there. So don't be old an ornery about people taking videos with their smartphones. A story is told through every camera.
And how do you know experiencing it in person without a camera is an amazing thing? Don’t get me wrong it’s better in person, but what is wrong with people filming it to make it a lasting memory that they can relive whenever they want? I agree with what the user above me said.

The crowd knew already before the disguises came off. Wow what an experience to randomly come across. I love Green Day. Absolute legends along with Blink 182. So glad they’re still around and strong ❤❤. Their music got me through some times as a teenager. ❤ from Australia

I love watching these wherever they happen. The one thing I'll say is that people caught on, and now they Know it's a famous band playing, but they wait to find out who it is. Before it just used to be a small crowd and then once word got around it filled up like this after the reveal. Still cool though, Jimmy should mix it up and play at different locations.

Pretty cool for Jimmy to do this. I am a big Phish fan and I see them every year at the Garden. I left a show last year and happened to spot Jimmy leaving the show about to hop into his car, surrounded by security. He addressed the crowd and did a 🤘. He certainly didn't have to do this and could have easily snuck away without being noticed, especially giving his status. Still cool though he's going to Phish shows! I have some video of it too!

I think they are just paranoid &don’t want some MAGA nut taking out Billie Joe on their watch. It’s NYC and there are guns in that crowd. If I were working security there Id be frigging nervous of risks. Wouldn’t hear music at all.

67 years old from the UK and seen a lot of the best Def Leopard, Slade, U2 List goes on. But for pure live entertainment Green Day nailed it. Maybe the best concert me and my kids have ever attended.
Highly recommend the new album. It would not have been on my radar if not for Jimmy posting the shorter video of this performance. I could see a couple of the songs becoming my favotites of the last 15 years at least.
For my make a wish in march 2023 I decided to go to the Jimmy Fallon tonight show and after the show he met with me for 45 minutes!!!! Such a great and funny guy👏👏👏
