All three members of Green Day - frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool - sit down with Tom Power to talk about the 30th anniversary of Dookie, the 20th anniversary of American Idiot and their brand new album, Saviors, which they think "could be that next era of Green Day."

  • 19:00 'No-one was talking about mental health back then'. Cobain died in April, Basketcase came out in August 1994. Living through that time there was a huge void in alternative culture after the end of Nirvana, almost a collective depression. Im so glad Green Day were a positive force that got me (and many other 90's kids) into punk music and through difficult teenage years. Great people. 'Saviors' is really good. Great interview.

    • @@aaronshebloski All depends what circles you travelled in. This was the period of the college alternative rock scene. It was far from depressing. Hell, I hung out at The Continental in Buffalo at the height of the goth scene, even that wasnt depressing, it was more about tuning in to what is going on around you. As far as Doug goes. He was the Sid of his time. Depression didnt kill him, heavy drinking and drugs did. Kurt didn't commit suicide because he was sad. It was because of heroin use. LOL Well, probably more because his wife had him whacked, but nevertheless.

  • As a journalist (and a Green Day fan), this interview fills my heart with joy. I've been watching all of Green Day interviews talking about the new record, and this is, by far, the best one. I love how you push them to reflect on the song writing and how this connects to who they were, who they were, and who they want to be. The meaning behind the records. First time watching this channel, but I had to say thank you for the great points/questions. Wish the interview was even longer.

  • Woodstock 94 I was a 24 years old and totally into the deadhead world since I was 15. There were two stages and the smaller stage was more of the hippie bands. I believe that Green Day was not on the schedule for that stage. When they came out, most of the crowd were hippies and they hated them. At first a lot of the mud thrown at them was meant to make them go away but to me, the mud slinging showed that these punkers were hippies at heart. I think it was Basketcase that won me over and I have been a Green Day fan ever since. Im not sure if that would have happened until much later with American Idiot if I didnt experience them at Woodstock 94. Insane that was 30 years ago.

He was the first grader with the American Idiot tshirts and razor walk tshirts..like the 2000 born k8d he is. He is now a brilliant musician and writer. I'm so thrilled that he loved those albums..and he really started to devor history after bullet in a bible. I was absolutely in TEARS when I saw the cover. I was listening to Zombie cranberries and thinking if the world would always feel like guns and bombs and wars... I'm in awe of the cover choice honestly says everything. As a visual artist..I do love some great covers. But for 2024...living in the 20s with Brexit and gaza and rump and we'll it's the best photo... Thank you for sharing the world with myself and my children and helping us get through it...all. you guys nailed it all Bowie ❤ and the American Idiot none of us wanting to be now we are not going to be able to disagree that the American Dream is killing is all....thank u thank u thank u and your families and children

  • Green Day - what a great band! I have seen them live and they have timelessly performed and recorded adapting to each of the decades as they have passed! I was 14 when American Idiot was released and came out and i was hooked since then! I love their older stuff even their later material in the middle portion of their careers and now i have downloaded their newest album Saviors and it rocks!!! Long live these legends and their fantastic work as a group called Green Day!

  • Green Day recording and playing together will always show up as quality with the energy and tightness when playing live on stage. It's becoming a forgotten art that many bands are losing. Keep up the amazing work boys.

  • I'm obsessed with this album and they have only gotten better with age. Some of us have been with GD since the beginning of the ride and bringing the adult kids to the concert!
