  • I am a drummer because of 'MudStock'. Watched on PPV as a kid while it was happening and said "I want to do what that guy is doing". Love the respect and love shown towards Tre in this video, he has done a lot more for drummers than people know.

  • Even before Blink 182 and Travis Barker, it was Green Day's American Idiot album that one thing that got me into music. Jesus of Suburbia's video was everything I was feeling back then and got that angstiness that would make me embarrassed of watching it with my parents. They were my gateway to punk music and lifestyle and later to learn how to play drums

  • I heard somewhere that when he was first given a drum kit, he loved the symbols so much he was just continually playing them, so Larry Livermore took them away until he could play the kick, snare and toms really well. This is probably why he has the stile he does.

  • Tre could not be replaced, he is an absolute monster. I got the white cassette of dookie at age 9 and I have been absolutely addicted ever since. Green day brings the magic and inclusivity of ICP without some of the embarrassing ass bs that made me retire from juggaloism, but I will always love green day

  • Green Day are like the Powerpuff Girls. You cannot switch or replace any of them, they're all brothers of equal talent and it's either all or none of them. It's so inspiring that they've loved each other and stuck together for 30 years. I think Insomniac is the perfect example of what they can individually do combined. And yes, Tre' is a fantastic lunatic and a lovable dork of epic proportions.

  • Everytime someone says punk music, I can't help not to think in Green Day. Basket Case was my favorite, just seen the drummer in a wheelchair was iconic. After watching him (by the time in MTV) on Woodstock, I knew that he have some loose screws, but that was not a problem in the rock/metal industry. You are never too crazy.

  • 7:36 absolutely 100% yes. This was one of the reasons he became one of my most influential drummers of all time and one of the reasons i started drumming. I freaking love Tom Drums and the sounds they can produce, and when someone knows how to use em right, it just makes me love them even more lol The famous tom drum parts in Holiday and American Idiot are so fun and satisfying ASF to play along with. Tre Cool is just insane on the drums

  • I'm not much of a fan of Green Day, but I gained a certain appreciation for them after one of them (I forget who) mentioned that they were just trying to emulate Husker Du. The day I realized that their heroes were the same as mine, I guess I saw them a little differently. I don't necessarily listen to them, but I'm glad they're around.

    • honestly same. I fell out of love after American Idiot dropped. It didn't live up to what I loved about Dookie and Nimrod. But I can't deny I'm happy that a rock band got the recognition they deserved in a time where the genre was/is dying.

  • They were the 2nd concert i ever got to go to. Saw them when they were touring right after Revolution Radio dropped, and Tre MADE that show. Billie, Mike, and the touring members they had definitely put out some energy and it wouldve been a great concert, but Tre turned it into a performance. He started solo kickdancing while singing, was pulling all sorts of drum tricks, and even had a few solo interludes that were amazing. The trios a phenonal act.

  • I’m a guitar player, but this channel is very inspiring and confirms the value of a great drummer in any band. I try and program midi drums in my home studio, but I just don’t have “drummer blood”! maybe I should take this course and better understand how to create killer drum grooves?

  • I saw Green Day live for the first time @ Lollapalooza ‘94. I actually ran into Tré Cool at a little setup where they were selling hemp shoes. Anyhow, Billy Joe asked the audience to give him their Birkenstocks & everyone threw them on stage. They also had a weird mannequin on stage. Although I wasn’t a big fan, they were amusing & I enjoyed their set.

  • Tre is HOW i learned to drum. Played dookie and, insomniac, and nimrod on my walkman till the tapes nearly wore out and i would air drum with makeshift drumsticks. Ended up as drummer for my church and then choir. I would throw in a little tre spice into things 😅

  • Tre's drums are actually memorable and somewhat iconic. People instantly recognise the drums in Longview and the fills in American Idiot. He stands out in solos like Jesus Of Suburbia and Burnout, and Are We The Waiting is simple but legendary. I can't think of any of his contemporarys who you could say the same about

  • I remember covering a few green day songs in my high school band I had to do standard quarters on the hats/ride because I hadn't worked on moeller technique yet and you basically can't do punk tempo 8th notes without it. Even with moeller and decent technique it's tough to do for even a 3 minute song.

    • He doesn’t get the amount of recognition he truly deserves. He’s so talented and extremely technical in his drumming skills that I have a hard time figuring out how he does some of the things he does on the kit
