My giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora, is a biological dream project, full of discovery and surprises! This week, I discover a giant huntsman that I thought had died weeks ago. I address the numerous theories you had about this mystery of the spider's resurrection. It was a complete adventure I will never forget. So many plot twists! Hope you enjoy Season 2, Ep. 5. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

    • Sure, but once the colony is set up and thriving in their final form setup, there's not much to update. No news is good news, they're just continuing to thrive without predators and someone feeding them daily. I do want to know more about the mega brood of termites though where like 13 of them grouped up to be egglaying partners, we've heard nothing about them since they grouped up, but I can't imagine how it would be too different from the earlier termite videos outside of quantity.

  • Here's a fun thing for those with a microbiology inclination: Pause around 16:08 and have a good look at those plant leaves. That "grainy" look to the surfaces is not just an exterior texture. It's the actual individual cells that make up the leaf surface. Plant cells can be quite large and are very easy targets for microscopes. In this case, they're so big that simple macro photography is enough to reveal them. AC has some really nice equipment. 🙂 Also, very cool that he has Ghost Ants making off with smaller Mealies. That helps keep their populations under control. Mealies are a frickin' nightmare when they get a foothold in indoor/greenhouse type gardens, and can easily damage and kill your plants. They can be VERY hard to control once they get a population going.

    • @@karmakimeleon8832 Don't get me started. Too late, I'm started. A few years back I got myself a fairly large grow tent in the feeble thought that if MJ got legalized nationwide I'd like to grow my own indoors. For other reasons I decided that's a bad idea all around, but I still went ahead and turned it into a rather impressive indoor garden. Tomatoes and peppers at first, which were SO good , never tasted anything like that before. Good dirt, happy plants. Then sweet potatoes which grew like mad. Made the huge mistake of bringing just one plant in from outdoors, and with it came whiteflies and mealies. In no time, SWARMING. Lost almost everything very quickly and it was such a war I decided to just quit the whole thing. Was expensive to run the 400w of LED lighting anyway and the bug invasion just absolutely made me hate it. I even had ants that found their way in somehow and were loving the mealies, just like AC's experience. SO upsetting. To this day I won't even consider trying again, totally killed it for me. I took the tent down, got rid of all the plants, and now I just use a single hanging 100w LED unit over a shelf to grow a few babies for the outdoor flowerbeds.

  • As someone who kept reptiles over 20 years, this series truly has brought back tons of memories. Your videos, narrating, and music selection are all top notch. Ive learned so much! I now feel like one of my elementary students when they walked into my classroom and saw a coffin sized cage with a 7ft. Boa constrictor curled up inside. My wife makes fun of me every Sunday because I am like a kid on Christmas, just waiting for the video to drop. Bravo sir, bravo!

And thanks to you, I know now that there are more ant-sorts than only 2-3 that are in my garden (red fire ants, some black ones and sometimes I found some strange yellow ones ?!). Totally interesting to see these ghost-ants ! never heard of them... Please continue with this great and interesting study, really magnificent project in many ways ! Thx !

  • It'd be neat if an aggressive fire ant queen and brood were released to sterilize the entire tank of all life (to start all over again after moving them out using trickery) but I know with the current set up that'd be really hard to do. They'd find a way out but maybe not. Mikey knows what he's doing with them. Another solution though harsh is using putty and tape to seal off every single tiny air entrance and exit and then pumping high pressure steam in for 5-6 days as a natural event - pieces of volcano hit nearby that would create steam - to kill off most if not all life and to start over again, knowing what he knows now. Doesn't have to give up, but like with coral reef hobbyist tanks, sometimes it really is better to call it scratch and just start over again. There are times when trying to fix a thing becomes redundant. The more you fix it, the more resources it takes when if it was just taken back to the VERY start, done then with what you've learned, and maybe the 2nd go around will be better and it usually is incredibly better from first hand experience, success and failures combined. We've all been there and it helps to fail the 1st time or multiple times, it's ok. I think he shouldn't have added _anything_ except feeders and roaches, few other things, then let it go for at least 6-12 months before expecting a real, thriving ecosystem but for content sake and I understand this, it's being rushed. I believe that is why the ants got the mites. It's not balanced. Something is wrong. I really enjoy this series and am grateful for the older videos.. also the Gaia thing too, but where are the ants? Know you showed them but it's pretty brief. Am still grateful but this thing you have, this project, it needs help and wish he would listen. Like with reef tanks, if you're throwing money, work, part of your own life (what I call resources) away, then yes. Sell what you have, "nuke" it, then try again - but waiting 6 months at LEAST to introduce anything other than indestructible fish like damsels and corals like green star polyps and zooanthids; anything SUPER easy that you have to put in a hard days work to harm or kill. I've accidentally forgotten these corals in a bag with no water, just a little humidity for 3 long days behind a tank and they were still fine. They're used to it when tide goes down. Gaia needs a reboot. AntsCanada fan forever. Except one part I won't bring up here.

  • Hey if you’re reading this, I’m well aware that you’re currently working on making a second ecosystem tank to connect to your original ecosystem tank so it would be as if two habitats are next to each other and the animals that live in them are able to cross over between the habitats, and I got to say that’s a great idea! While you’re still working on that I have an idea of my own you could do for a video, this is just a suggestion and not an order, but if the last video you upload in the month of May gets 500K likes then you must put two animal carcasses into your original ecosystem tank and see what happens. I say that the animals carcasses should either be lizards or birds and put them in opposite sides of the ecosystem tank but I’ll let you decide. I know this is easier said than done but if you can make bigger and bigger projects then surely you could something fairly simple; you’re always coming up with something to do in a video after all! You’re welcome for the 25$ by the way! 😄😊🤗✌️

He caught a huntsman spider, placed it on his floor, recorded himself catching it again, and then put it in his vivarium knowing it wasn't Lady Death strike just to create this entire storyline. It's a total bummer when you realize it.

A recycled glass jar 10.5 oz or more, sea salt and brine shrimp eggs off amazon, 1/30 tsp or less of eggs gives you hundreds of little shrimps swimming happily. Nice to watch.
