  • Before anything gets out of control, exotic cats (caracals, servals, etc.) do NOT make good pets. Nor do anteaters 😅 They were only attending the show for educational purposes, so we had a perfect opportunity to teach viewers about these incredible animals 🥰

    • I did enjoy watching this! I think you should focus on reptiles for new products, as that is your audience and the reptiles need the representation as opposed to dogs and cats - though I love them and did enjoy seeing the cutie pies you petted! The seminars would be interesting too, for those who can't get there.

    • Thank you for putting this out there! I clicked ready to have to make some comments. When I interned at Nashville Zoo, I talked at baby feedings and you would not believe the amount of people who think a clouded leopard would make a great pet. Like yeah a full grown female is only 35-40 pounds (males about 45-55) but these guys have canines almost the size of tigers. Nursery staff have had claws of 2-3 month olds go through compression socks.

    • Its too bad you cant edit the video to say any of this for people who don't read the comments. It honestly sounded like the woman who was showing you them was promoting getting these animals by encouraging me to do my research, before go ahead and adopt my own. I'm sure there is context missing but you have a lot of young and impressionable viewers who will not understand that. You are at a pet expo.

  • Servals are terrible pets. Servals and Asian Leopard Cats and Caracals, and their hybridized versions, are at the TOP of surrendered/abandoned felines. Many vets nationwide who work with dogs and cats will turn you away if you bring in a Savannah because it is a wild animal. PLEASE don't make more - I volunteer at a rescue and it is heart-wrenching what they go through in the pet trade! Even the lady herself said it was common for the moms to eat the young, please don't support the wildcat pet trade because they are NOT designed to thrive in captivity. Edit: I did mean percentage. They aren't likely to have a happy ending in private homes.

    • This this this this this!!! Exotic animals are not good pets!! Edit: exotic as in "literally a wild mammal. Like a tiger or serval." I'm sure you all can use context clues to puzzle out what I meant here.

      @louchies@louchies12 күн бұрын
    • Absolutely. I volunteer at the minnesota Wildcat Sanctuary and see the many, many hybrids, Savannahs, caracals, lynx, bobcats, etc that people surrendered or had taken from them. It needs to stop.

    • Domesticated animals like house cats and dogs are already such a big lifestyle commitment for the length of the animal's life. Wild animals are not the same at all in terms of the ability to live with humans in human-centered settings like our homes.

      @geckosocks@geckosocks12 күн бұрын
  • being a cat person I feel the need to re-emphasize that servals and carcals are *not* pets. Servals have territories of 4-12 miles in the wild, caracals have a minimum territory size of 22 miles in the wild and many have territories much larger. They should never be kept in homes or by private keepers. This is not a "do your research" situation, this is a "don't do it" situation.

My favourite segments in these videos is honestly your interviews with the vendors. It doesn't have to be entirely about reptiles or birds or anything. It could be with anyone. I love seeing people talk about what they enjoy doing, and with a lot of these vendors it is 100% a passion for them. You could have made a 10 hour video of just you interviewing the vendors at the show and I would have watched the entire thing.

  • love these kind of video! the only concern i have is highlighting those in the more "exotic" pet trade without proper disclaimers about how 9 times out of 10 they're not suitable as good pets. oh course there was that small disclaimer at the end with the serval, but i definitely think there needs to be more clear discouragement. you're pretty good on this about reptiles - you've always shown how keeping an alligator as a pet isn't a good idea - but i think a lot more needs to go into the more "popular" exotic pets that people like to buy and abuse when they cant care for them correctly, like the felines and foxes and the sort. that's my only concern! otherwise, very happy with this kind of content

      @BCB8823@BCB882312 күн бұрын
    • I was thinking this too. The amount of exotic pets sold every year is increasing because of viral videos driving demand. And of course the majority of these animals are not well cared for 😢 People impluse buy animals because they look cute in videos but are not prepared for how difficult it is to actually care for a wild animal.

      @WeatherInOrlando@WeatherInOrlando12 күн бұрын
    • Everyone please stick with domesticated animals and reptiles/amphibians!! I promise you will have a more rewarding bond with a regular dog or cat than with an exotic that is much harder to care more, will destroy your home and will be much more expensive!

      @WeatherInOrlando@WeatherInOrlando12 күн бұрын
    • People who watch these videos aren't stupid. I think it was made pretty clear that those animals aren't suitable as pets (not just them saying so but also the fact that the mom of the lynx eat two of her babies and her mentioning that this tends to happen in captivity). They are pretty much only suitable for a near zoo environment or, if you want them in a pet setting, you basically have to dedicate your damn life to them (which is something so owners of exotic larger pets are willing to do and practice).

  • This was definitely a fun watch. Love seeing the updates of behind the screen activities and it also provides us an idea of what is coming out and what you are doing. I’m already pretty familiar with stuff like this but in a retail and manufacturing sense so it was awesome to see it from a pet end of it all.

  • I think a Snake Discover podcast would be an amazing idea! You could talk about specific species of snakes and their morphs and where they come from. It could be like an internet zoo exhibit. You could do interviews with other breeders, like the ones you talk to at conventions and get their takes on the reptile world in more depth than you can put in a youtube video. It would be great to use it as a spotlight for endangered species as well. There's a lot of details that you can put in a podcast that you don't have time for in your normal content because you have to squeeze in time for all the animals you feature.

  • I do like seing you guys go to expo's and talking to people about new and interesting animals and products! I think a lot of people are a bit uncomfortable with exotic (non reptile) breeders due to the ones that were milling and issues with exotic pets being so easy to get in some areas but maybe if you guys balanced it with rescue sides of it or ways ethical breeders help might be a better way to show exotics 😅 not that I'm saying the ones you showed were bad breeders necessarily! Just that I think most viewers like the rescue side and stuff like breeding to benefit the availability of non wild caught reptiles kind of things if that makes sense?

    • YES!!!!!! Finally, a well-rounded comment! There are a bunch of people (both here and in general) saying that it's evil to have these animals as pets at all, and I think that's way too bossy. But you definitely do need to do a heck-ton of research and make absolutely SURE you're up for it before getting these animals.

  • I love this type of content! Expos give a good overview of what is happening in the pet sphere. Especially the new and upcoming products! It shows off where the community is and where it's going. Big cats, reptiles and fish are awesome! I would say that the reason I watch you guys is for the exotic pet expertise, so seeing regular cats and dogs is less interesting.
