From an escaped snake, to Emily's purse getting stolen, our trip to Arlington, Texas certainly was eventful! Watch to see what shenanigans Ed and Emily got into on this trip. Thankfully a lot of good food was also involved ;)

  • Glad the trip was fun~! Fun fact: Braums only opens within 24 hour drive of their farm, so everything is freshly made in their store. Milk, beef, bread, cream cheese, cheesecake, and so much more. ALSO about 4 isles worth of signature ice cream, sherbet , and frozen yogurt. Great spot to stop while traveling through the Midwest~!

    • I LOVE Braums! I'm in Texas, where Bluebell reins supreme, but Braums has my heart. Their ice cream is amazing. My only complaint for their flavors, is the chocolate chips aren't chunky. If you drink skim milk, it's the BEST, because they add more milk solids to it when they remove the cream. That little grocery store, reminds me of an old favorite from my youth in Ohio--Goshen Dairy. They were exactly like Braums.

    • I don't know, I think it's more likely to just be an opportunistic thief. If they knew who they were, then they would probably know theres more valuable stuff elsewhere in the van, and not grab just the purse. And I don't know how common it is to look up the person they stole from once the cards get blocked, so I don't think theres too much of a risk for them to find out where the keys belong unless theres a logo on it or something

  • Thank goodness Emily didn’t lose all her ID! I don’t know how it is in the US but here in Canada, it’s a giant pain in the butt when you have to replace _all_ your identification. It’s such a bummer when something like a purse is stolen. Sometimes people really suck!

    • @@GreenspaceGeckos Bloody hell that sounds horrible. Closet I've ever come to loosing ID/cards was one time at a petrol station. I was at the till paying for some snacks and I didn't notice the card section of my wallet broke and fell out (just the two extra card slots that are made plastic so it didn't take much for them to breakoff) while I was getting cash out. But a kind gentlemen waiting behind me got my attention and pointed out the dropped cards, which I was grateful for as one was my debit card.

    • My family had our rental van broken into during our summer vacation one year because my mom left her camera bag on the floor of the front passenger side, and we learned from the police that these kind of thieves are just opportunistic so they basically go around and quickly peer through windows and if they see an easily accessible purse-looking object, SWIPE. Literally seconds. The most they take time for is to check if the door is unlocked, if it is then it's a smash-and-grab like ours was. The only unfortunate thing was my mom had put our passports in her camera bag so those were gone...ironically, she'd taken her camera with her so that wasn't stolen. lol We reported and got them replaced pretty easily but the real mystery of the story is when my Dad answered the phone late one night several years later and it was some person claiming to have 4 out of 5 of our stolen passports O_o They did actually have them and the only one missing was my youngest sibling's. I'm not sure what became of them after that but it was pretty wild in hindsight.

  • It's amazing to me how insulated from her mother's equestrianism Emily has managed to stay. Even my brother, who only willingly rode a horse twice in his life, has absorbed more over the years he's been begrudgingly exposed to our obsession 😅 I'm surprised to see a Dover Saddlery in TX; I never realized there would be a high enough concentration of English riders to justify one!

    • Omg! Really? Texas is horse country! I had horses starting at 11 and all my saddles, were either hand made or came from one of the 200 tack stores in Fort Worth, alone. Started Dressage at 14. But I prefer Western or plain bareback.

  • Hey Emily! I carry a purse too and also travel for work. When I travel I carry a smaller purse that only has what I need for the convention (pen, charger, sanitizer) and then all the other important stuff either goes in my phone case thats on me or in a place that people wouldnt look in the hotel room (clearly not saying ideas because then it ruins it). When it comes to keys and other cards, I'll only take a spare house key that goes on a necklace or in my suitcase and if its a card I dont need it stays home. I ONLY say this because what happened to you did to me on my first work trip and I lost everything. So from one purse carrier to the other this is what helps me :) I"m sorry it happened to you but...buc-cees purse for travel maybe???

This is why I always have mine on me if I'm out, or, if I have to leave it in the car, I hide it under a seat etc so it's not easily visible to anyone walking by - makes it a lot less likely to be tempting to someone. I searched to see if anything related to that came up online and found nothing, so to my knowledge, there’s no reason(caveat being , as I mentioned before, full and correct documentation for each animal) why a zoo can’t display Tuatara in the US. They are ofc still pretty rare given their limited(now) range but there have been a lot of advances made in the husbandry of these amazing creatures, and the first Tuatara hatched os NZ was in 2016 at Chester Zoo in the UK.
