Do you normally play on bottom or on top?
Yes.
Bottom
My answer is still yes.
You’re talking about Jiu-Jitsu right?
Ayoooo
Being in another country, thousands of miles away from Gordon Ryan, helps a lot. He is very unlikely to pass my guard.
You have no concept of stickiness 😂😂
Geographic advantage confers tremendous guard retention ability
@@johannesandersson9477 John Danaher, is that you?! hehe
Weird he doesn't mention that in the video. I thought he was suppose to be good at this?
I still think he would pass it if he wanted too 🤣
Every time I hear Ryan talk it becomes more and more clear that Danaher is doing some Get Out type voodoo and slowly uploading himself into Ryan's brain
LOL!!!! FOR REAL!
Yeah man! He has so many of Danaher's nuances.
@@stefanwolf8558 when I heard him say, "cranial shift" LOL
Racist ass movie, fuck k and piss.
Once he’s fully uploaded, there’ll only be a rash guard left in a pile on the mats
Gordon has never passed my guard
LOL
Mine neither :)
he will never pass mine lol
Francis Ngannu hasn't knocked me out
LOL! Not mine too then hahahaha
I'm really proud of Bernardo, he found a way to both help the BJJ community and make a great living post competition.
Wait, are you a jiu-jitsu guy? Love your channel😄
Huge honor for me
Why do I see you everywhere. I see a comment you've made on like every video I watch it seems like
Ur into jiu jitsu? Dude u helped my guitar playing so tremendously
And all while it's huge honor for him.
All these years and I never knew I had a J spot. This will change my life.
Good one =)
Hahaha
Hilarious!
🤣🤙
I see gordon made you feel things you never have before
Gordon looks like he is constantly irritated that he has to talk to anyone...lol
I imagine he’s dealing with his stomach issues during this video too.
i thinks hes one of those rare people with ridiculously high IQ
Gordon has stomach issues that cause him intense chronic pain, he probably is just nauseous and in pain...
Ginning up interest in a match against a rando when you are the best is hard =/
@@jonmcmann6811 I think he thinks he is one of those people, they are less rare.
the concept of never letting them control (or even touch) your head is something I wish I understood as a white belt
There are belts in no gi?
@@pulsarlights2825 yes. They just retained the belt system for ease. 10th Planet "belts" the traditional white, blue, purple, brown, black and are exclusively no gi.
@@pulsarlights2825 i train mostly with the gi
@@pulsarlights2825 duh
This principle applies to Jiu Jitsu and to life in general never let them control your head!
Gordon always sounds like he’s arguing with me, but I’m literally just holding my phone with my mouth open lol
That's because he sounds like Ben Shapiro 😂
Yes thats exactly what it is haha
@@darraghwilliamson3689 noooo I can't unhear it 😭
🤣🤣
@@darraghwilliamson3689 bruuuhhh why did you have to make me hear that
Create Initial Stickyness with opponent Don't let em get past the legs Don't let em control your head Always frame with your hands to create maximum space In North South Position don't let his shoulders be inside your knees If he doesn't control my head and shoulders he can never pass my guard
“If they’re in mount I can just kip out and go into an ankle lock” This is why he is the GOAT.
That’s a common mount escape transition: bump hips, knees in, single leg X.
It’s finally happened. The nerds are teaching combat. ❤️
Huge honor for me to watch this!
Huge honor for me to confirm this.
@@Nenad-ICXC-Shuput-GFAMMA huge honor for me to read this.
Huge honor for Gordon to get your money.
Hi everybody! I like horses.
Huge honour for me to scroll through this.
I did wrestling 13-17 Then didn't do any serious training again until i was 24. 24 started jiu jitsu and fell in love with it right as i was studying to get into grad school. now im in grad school and obssessed with this martial art. jiu jitsu is the coolest thing ever. its making my wrestling better too. teaching me a lot about life. I just turned 26. first jiu jitsu tournament is in a few weeks. I want to compete for at least 20 more years. this stuff is amazing and genuinely makes my life better
how did you do in your first tourney?
Bet he quit already. 😂
This is pretty damn close to the philosophy which I found really helped my BJJ game. The idea of being sticky in one direction, but slippery in another direction. You stick to people and make it very hard for them to pass your guard, but you give them a certain direction in which they can move. Once they move that direction, you transition to a more offensive position because you are ready for them to pass and you use that to your advantage.
Love this idea
@@peteyoxonmusic do you?
@@paulpaul4681yeah I think they do
It wasn't a slap on Galvao. It was a cranial shift.
LOL I see what you did there! hahaha
that happened too
You ever just meet people and you know they are a pure soul? if there is a Heaven, they are for sure going type of person. That is how I feel about Bernardo. Dude is so wholesome I almost cry.
That’s funny I was going to say the same thing about Gordon
6:08 - 6:23 The main reason why I can't convince any of my friends to take up Jiu Jitsu.
I laughed way to hard by this comment
🤣🤣🤣
Why my wife always asks if there are women in the class (that and triangles).
Went right to 6:00, hahaha!!!
It's too sexy?
Gordon Ryan will never pass my guard again after watching this
Cranial shift....sounds like a Danaher term lol
They talk about spinal alignment a lot, as well.
Unnecessary complicated term. Why not just say ‘control the head’?
@@justinchoy1980 cranium control sounds way cooler, though
Cranial shift sounds like the shift of cranial bones
@@joatanpereira4272 it is =)
He feels the stickiness running through his leg and hip. Are we still talking about jiu jitsu?
Depends if it hit your J point
Uuge honor for me!
I used this last night. My guard used to be crap. I was surprised how strong my guard became just by watching this vid.
The way Gordon or Danaher talk about the theory is priceless. Narrowing all the escapes and variations that are possible down to a simple concept that anyone can understand shows a level of excellence beyond great into truly mastering your craft. I'm grateful for getting to watch, and listen to the strategy implemented by the greatest Jiu Jitsu practitioner and coach of this generation. Thank you!
Agreed , gotta understand the concept before learning the technique
Theses aren’t new concepts. Rickson has been teaching this for years. Instead of stickiness he talks about connections, and instead of a move for every scenario and thinking about basic themes, like G. Ryan talked about, Rickson talks about Conceptual Jiu Jitsu. It’s basic connection and concepts. This is why G. Ryan is one of the GOATs
2:58 when your brazilian friend starts speaking that brazenglish and you just have to "yeah, ok." them.
I think his english was pretty clear there
lmaoooo. Thanks I needed that laugh that was great
These high level type of conceptual descriptions are good advertising for instructionals.
Teaching philosophy is always better than teaching individual combos or moves. As a boxing coach I always taught using that method. Too many coaches get caught up in repetition. I'm not saying it's not important as well. But it is so valuable to teach someone why something works. It will help them in application.
Agreed!! Personally I can only truly pull off a move if I know what makes it tick
This is what most (almost all) traditional chinese martial arts do. If only they had more sparring and that sort of stuff...
5 beers deep and that kazushi really sets in
Gordons details are the finest jiu jitsu skills that i had seen in long time.Congrats what a JJ.
Thank you for taking the time to share this.
Nice thing is all the top guys are doing videos for us to learn and sharing the knowledge. People will come up with ways to counter these attacks eventually thus bringing the bjj up another level.
Great insight, thank you for sharing!!
I really appreciate your teachings so much! Thanks a lot!👍👍
If you close your eyes, it sounds like Kermit the Frog having a conversation with himself.
I have watched this several times, I think I will watch it again before every class for a few months.
Gordon is very technical. What a dangerous combination. Size, strength and elite technique.
excellent instructional! Respect, both Masters
Just started and I’m probably going to be watching all your videos. Thanks for the awesome collection!!
The opening demonstration is the first and last time Gordon’s guard is ever passed
Sweet. Great explanation and detail👍
"we have to understand"- danaher's disciple
5 minutes in and already mindblown
What great teaching. Thank you and blessings from California.
You are such a legend, and a legend again for creating this learning platform. Thank you so much Bernado for what you have done for the sport, and for noobs like me who get smashed at the gym ,but then provide the learning resource for after training to understand why. BJJ hall of famer for sure!
Watching this is a huge honor for me
Good stuff. Little things like this are so key. I’m going to focus on this more. No ones arm comes behind my head
This video definitely hit my J spot
🤣😂🤣 That’s hilarious
This video is absolutely priceless!
I like how he explained "basically stay little" when he is over you.
Brilliant tutorial. Thank u
Super proud of both of these guys for putting this seminar together and for Marcelo Garcia. Great job guys!
Such a smart dedicated young man.
Very good Gordon Jon proud of you
Boy, this made so many things click for me!! EXCELLENT explanation and teaching. Thank you!

Thankyou for this video❤❤
Thanx for the lesson!
I love your videos, thanks for the great content.
This channel is gold!
thanks for teaching
Man! What a great video! I have to keep this in mind tomorrow!
Muito bom, Bernardo e Gordon.
Watched this Monday helped me so much rolling today especially when they get to north south was able to keep space I was very happy as only a 5 month white belt thank you
Underlying concepts succinctly explained.
thanks guys Gordon and Danaher really have clear and powerful teaching skills thank you and God bless u both ^^.
the stickiness of this video will trigger several cranian shifts though out my life. awesome!
Thank God for jiu jitsu. Seriously can't put it into words how much it helps me in all areas of life.
Brilliant, love it
Thank you sir
Huge honor for me❗
It really is great to learn the concepts of what is needed during a situation. technique is important but like he said there are an infinate amount of grips/variations of techniques one can do. knowing now the goals during advancenents puts jiujitsu in persepctive for someone like me... white belt 1 stripe stay sticky! dont let him pass my hips. if he passes dont let him control the head if he gets passed my body to NS maintain my elbows in knees in and reguard if i can being sticky keeps uke in kuzushi. this was an awesome video. thank you for sharing.
Thank you 🙏🏼
I like how Gordon referenced his loss to better explain the idea.
Big thx for this vid !
This guy is amazing
brilliant
Excellent
Loved every bit of this and I’m not even in BJJ thx
Lessons from the goat.✊🏽
thx guys.
thanks alot, good stuff here.
Initial stickiness - great concept
And THATS why he’s the KING
his knowledge at such a young age is insane.
This is superb instructions. The concepts and WHY something works is the real gem.
Thanks to this video, today I was tapped only once... (I am at my second week in the BJJ academy hihi). Jiu-jitsu is an awesome sport !
Very very good explanation..
Great video.
Muito obrigado
Amazing 🤩
Knowledge.
May God bless you guys, and of course Danaher.
Gordon always looks so serious like a Viking!
What I think he does better is during the transition to regard he threatens positions so well .
I love this🙌🙌🙌🐐🐐🐐
Not everyone can hit my J spot. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Information overload.
Since watching this video I’ve taken on the BJJ champions and they have never been able to pass my guard because of what I learned in this video even though I have no other skills.
Smart👏
