"Bernardo Faria is a 5x World Champion. Bernardo started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Juiz de Fora - MG, Brazil at the age of 14 in 2001.     • It's kind of true though. I get from butterfly-half to ashi all the time, but they defend or escape. Him saying that spoke to me. I cam get from half gaurd to leglock positions, bit can't finish. I guess I need to focus on those techniques.

    • @@ashtoncomer935 I would agree to a certain extent. In No-Gi, stalling is useless, there is not nearly as much grip fighting and many times athletes stall for points/cardio recovery. Grip fighting in the Gi cause most of the stalls. In No-Gi, stalls are more deliberate. You should always be thinking Sub or Die.

    • I've got Gordon's sit up guard instructional and completed running through it with a partner. Would you get this half guard instructional next or the supine guard next? I want to complete them in the best order and the half guard one seems like it builds on the information from the first two.

Percebo que os americanos enxergam o jiu jitsu como Sistemas e Sub Sistemas enquanto nós Brasileiros enxergamos como funções de maneira separada. Sendo que uma unica função compõe um sub sistema, que por sua vez compõe um sistema maior e o programa jiu jitsu é composto de varios grandes sistemas. Acredito que tenhamos que reaver nossa maneira de ensinar sob pena de ficar para traz rapidamente. Algo que já está acontecendo, Forte Abraço Oss!

  • You need to be able to do many things from half guard. Reguard, leg locks, ashe garami, leg locks, dog fight, leg locks, tickle, leg locks and also leg locks.

    • Yes, but Z-guard emphasizes the knee low, down by the hip whereas knee shield places the knee higher, by the shoulder/chest.

  • Gordon Ryan's instructional DVD's are exceptional and worth every penny. The only thing that could've made it better for me is if he branded it 'American' i.e. American open guard, American half guard, etc. (just kidding, but seriously)
