The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 30 - September 11.

for me this was one of the most impressive and beautiful grand slam runs recently. she made me a big fan
I loved her US Open run; so impressive. When I saw she was going to play big and strong, on form Sabalenka, I thought she was going to get killed, and after the first three games, I thought she was going to get bageled! Boy did she turn it around!!!
She is one of a kind. Gonna be a special player for years to come. Emma and Leylah are the FUTURE.
Fernández has such an impressive game. She plays like Hingis but with a considerable amount of power when she wants to use it. At the US Open, she and Raducanu simply played the game a whole level above the entire field. It's early to talk about dynasties and rivalries, but boy do these two young players bring some long-overdue excitement to the WTA.
I think that is a stretch. Being Canadian i love Fernandez and how she made the crows roar. She has game and wheels and a fighters spirit, but she could get a little stronger and improve the lefty first serve. Once the rest of the athletes on tour figure out her patterns and game, she may struggle. Would love to see her top 10 for the next ten years.....i just don't know if that is realistic.
@@Jigsyboy1 It's not a stretch, and it was acknowledged it is still early, but at least hopeful. Looking at a half full glass, one can say that they're still very young, and could potentially improve quite a bit. Meanwhile, the others trying to figure them out, are more or less peaked out...
@@donquixote... hope you are right man. She is terribly exciting and fun to watch. Can't help but love her
@@Jigsyboy1 Well, as the other person indicated, we don't know what will happen yet. But, I have this impression of race car drivers going down the track, and periodically they may peek to see if anyone is coming up behind them... Suddenly two cars shoot past them like a rocket, and now it's a game of, catch me if you can...
@@donquixote... This has aged horribly for Raducanu lol
I love how in the beginning there were barely any people in the stands. And by the second week the whole world was watching as she played in front of packed stadiums. So comfortable in front of the crowds and the press, like she's been doing it all her life.
She plays with passion and tenacity, can't wait to see more of her on the tour!
Leyla is a great tennis player and won our hearts. She's such a likeable person. Can hardly wait to see her play again.
I agree to you Gloria! 👍🙏🇵🇭🇨🇦
her smile and skills are amazing! More games between her and Emma. We gonna have a great tennis matches soon
She's a true champion, can't get enough of Leylah Fernandez 💕
incredible wins over 3 top 5's. amazing display of athleticism and shot making. hope to see more of her tennis in the future!
She's just so much fun to watch. Really looking forward to seeing her again.
She definitely brings excitement to the sport and with the crowd behind her things are about to change.
Emma Raducano was the better player on finals day, but it's Leylah that was the giant killer at this 2021 U.S. OPEN. May both ladies face each other for many more years to come.
The Kerber match was such fun to watch. Probably the best match of the tournament.
Aaahmaaaziiing!!!! Can't wait to watch her again next year at Arthur Ashe!
Im in love, im in tears… what is she doing to me 😂
True
Amazing Leylah!!! I’m a new fan of her.
I love her tennis and her sportsmanship. She will be on top on no time.
She is a spider, builds her net slowly, Then kills it quick. I love her tennis, cant wait for her next game.
I want Leylah and Emma to be top ten soon
Amazing. Just incredible. I hope she'll stick around!
I enjoy both Emma and Leylah’s games. I could see either win. IMHO Emma is more powerful while Leylah is more agile.
Leylah’s tennis is a different level. It’s a tennis of tomorrow. And most in women’s tennis playing yesterday game.Except Raducanu of course.
She had a harder road to the final, beating 3 top 5 players, for me she is the Winner!
Apart from the fact she lost in straight sets in the final you're entirely correct.
How ridiculous do you sound? The winner is Emma, history books will remember her whereas no one will remember Leylah. She won't make another slam final, mark my words.
I couldn't agree more!
If leylah plays a final with an empty crowd due to covid i wonder how she would play without a crowd to feed on emotionally
Just brilliant! Hope to see more of her!
I have been following Leylah for several years and so proud of her achievements so far. As for Emma that she will meet often in the future, I think table tennis at a young against great players from Shenyang Sports University has given her some advantages about reactivity, pace and change of directions.
I like Leylah ferformances......she is so charming, with her smile........she makes WTA be colourful......now it is Fwernandez and Raducanu era...
To me, Leylah is the brightest star of this US Open. She made this USO so exciting as she beat the big names one by one. Emma did not but obviously was the better player in the finals. I think Leylah let the Finals got to her. Emma who had experienced that hype and attentions at Wimbledon and fallen, had some psychologists and former champions helped her to cope with that feelings and thus was much more calm and was able to play her best tennis. So Leylah must learn how to do that soon. Oh, and learn how to serve better under pressure.
Luckily, Leylah's profile is also rising quickly, especially in Canada, so I bet she's getting more members on her team.
crazy...reminds me of Rafa's game...
Hope Leylah wins a lot of tournaments in 2022, she's a wonderful kid... and a great tennis player to watch
she just did baby!! defending her Monterrey crown😀
Leylah's match against Osaka in the third round was THE watershed moment in her career. Not just because she beat her on Ashe but because it changed her. She always had the skills but she NEVER had the crowd. The first time I saw her do the one hand fist to the air and then ask the crowd to cheer...I was floored. I always knew her as a quiet reserved young girl. Didn't know she has that in her. From that exact moment, everything changed. It was like her confidence shot up 100 percent and she trusted her game and the plan. If you look at previous results from this year...other than winning in Monterrey her results were mediocre. Why? She never had the crowd or the fan base. The mental side of the game is clearly so important. And we saw how it could go the other way, when Osaka in the same match got frustrated and lost crowd support. Her remarks after were quite telling. Almost like she was ready to retire. I hope Leylah keeps developing but if she keeps her confidence up...she has the ability to beat anyone. Including a rematch with Emma.
Emma's got her covered, so will the rest of the tour now that they will have figured out how she plays. She's not that great and comes across as an arrogant thing, as do her family who booed/jeered other players the ENTIRE couple of weeks. Oh, she was also being coached in EVERY SINGLE GAME but nothing was done about it. Soon she slides back down the rankings the better.
@@WelshSwan1986 Why are you in a Leylah video if you don't appreciate her... are you OK?
Best comment.. thumbs up
100% agree
@@WelshSwan1986 You also don't understand Leylah's best quality. She has a very high tennis IQ Her game is quite varied, lots of technique and she is very adaptable. Studying players in match and figuring our their style and plan and adapting. She can also anticipate like no one I have seen, like a chess players. Combine that with speed and you have a deadly combination.
Godbless you leylah such a sweetheart on court
She is the real USO champion. She made it most memorable.
@@Lewis1key tired from playing 3 setters? and women should be paid the same as men?
She is a female Rios. I am so looking forward to seeing her at next year's FO. Also, i hope she adds some pop to her serve. What a fantastic talent
Leylah is the sweetest thing coming from canada since maple sirup....honestly, I never saw someone celebrating his/her own winners in such a sweet way!
Leylah is my favorite player!! 😃😆🤩
just wow leylahhhhh
After all of those incredible pre-final match I not sure she had the same energy/leg speed left in the final. Having said that Emma was remarkable throughout the entire US Open Tournament. Not dropping a set.
She’s like a female rafa circa 2003 chasing everything down but has no offensive weapon to hurt someone yet. Hopefully she will turn into a monster in 5 years time.
No offensive weapon? She was hitting so many winners during the US open...very often she dominated the points....yes, she´s far from being perfect yet...I hope she will be able to improve her serve....but I don`t get the "no offensive weapon" thing...
Both Leylah and Rafa play exceptional offense… what?
She is amazing
Say whatever you want, Leylah made the best US Open 2021 performance
What an impressive tournament! Can't help but love her. Really looking forward to her next tournament at Indian Wells. Hopefully she will continue this run and continue to prove herself. Will be interested to see how Raducanu does as well. Perhaps a Raducanu vs Fernandez 2.0 rematch?!?! 😆
Fernandez is great !!!
Lot of Seles in her game and attitude. It s like watching Seles 30 yrs back
Leylah is No. 1
If she improves her serve she can be a mainstay in the top 15.
gracious and effective
TBH She is getting a great run for your money.I would rather watch her match than Emma.Getting into the third set most of her matches were really worth it for my money.
US Open Tennis Championships
0:35 WOW she didn't even change her grip until the VERY last second.
US Open can you please post the Leylah Fernandez and Kaia Kanepi second round match?
How is she against eala? Any games with them?
No se por que pero tengo tante fé en ella que yo se que va ganar algun dia y gran slam , la apoyare en las buenas y malas. LA AMOOOOOOOOOO.
Just a pity she didn’t win the open! She did all the heavy lifting. Jeesh!
I love the way she celebrate her point ☝️☝️😘
I thought the final was gonna be a little closer than straight sets lol. Leylah was probably fatigued from playing so many three set matches against top 5 opponents.
Just like how Emma was fatigued from playing all those extra matches just to qualify for the main draw. Emma already had beat her before, she outclassed her in every way possible, did before and did again in the U.S. Open final.
@@darrickp3436 I was rooting for Emma and that’s why she’s one of my favorite wta players now. She far exceeded all expectations.
@@darrickp3436 Leylah spend more time on court playing absolute giants (Osaka, Kerber, Svitolina, Sabalenka). Want it or not, she gave the best performance during the US Open 2021, no matter the outcome of the final.
Fernanda es y será la Surda Mágica que acaba de nacer para escribir su propia leyenda del tenis mundial. Ecuador- HSani
SHE’S MOVES LIKE RAFAEL NADAL
For those two weeks she was the best player in the world. Her draw was alot more dificult
She reminds me of young Monica Seles.
A little Rafa really!
She took the ball so early, no match on women’s tour.
Laylah is fantastic, she is so talented, I love seeing her playing tennis. Too bad she is in the exact same generation as Emma Raducanu. Watching Emma playing I guess she would dominate women tennis for the next decade.
the girl who made osaka (half) quit
Emma Raducanu Top 10 Points (03m 27s) Leylah Fernandez Top 10 Points (06m 17s) Yep, that's the difference. In opponents' level too.
That is the problem with her game IMO. She reminds me of Sorribes Tormo. She hangs in the point too long. In the long run, its effectively playing from behind. More clinical players should work her out more in the future. Plus her service wasn't as strong. In the final she was serving at 56% and gave up 18 BO opportunities to Raducanu
@@edjay4811 "More clinical players"? A bit funny to read skeptical comments like this, despite Leylah actually passed through two top of them (Osaka and Sabalenka) while Emma didn't even meet any. Same goes for long rallies: yep, you can't win points easily playing against top tour defenders in their best form (Kerber and Svitolina), you have to play many long rallies. Too shame Emma didn't even meet any, again. Closest one was Sakkari, but first games of the match, when she lost all her great chances, she played not only against Emma but also against her uncomfortable skirt (lol). For highlights like this mostly choose rallies where both players did well. Leylah knows how to win points faster, she play aggressive tennis and demonstrated this a lot. Emma still doesn't know what is it - to play against top players.
Maybe the reason why she get lost against Emma is because of pressure surrounds her , if i'm wrong here, most of the audience during that time are on the side of Emma on numerous of them for Leyla
nope. she was dead tired and of course the pressure too. if you watch her previous matches and the finals, you'll see she has no pop on her serves and ground strokes, that is why emma dictated from start to finish as she had the fresher legs
Fernandez showed the world that you can play great without screaming. Without shouting “C’mon”.
Emma doesn't through a temper tantrum as other top players do. Shouting 'come on' is nothing.
What do you mean? Watch the full game. Fernandez was screaming C'mon very loudly especially after double faults and unforced errors
Enma es potencia y colocación; Leylah es puro talento. ¡No me canso de ver a estas dos chiquillas derrotando a las top ten! ¡Extrahordinario!
What points from Fernandez
接發球很棒,未來不可限量
4:20 Bad choice of shot, she had the whole court open!
My thoughts exactly, Svitolina saw her running towards the opposite corner of the court yet she shot the ball in her direction smh
She overused her drop shot against Emma.
Great player, without a doubt. But... Everytime I watch this kind of video, it reminds me the tactical and technical poverty of the WTA and specially the player's style of east europe. It seems that the only idea to put some variation in a game with a volley or a dropshot is a big deal.... i really don't understand how the coach train these kind of player
GO LEYLAH WIN OR LOST I LIKE YOU VERY MUCH I DONT LIKE RADUCANU IS BORING TO WATCH
SHE IS SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH AND LOTS OF VARIETRY AND I LOVE IT NOT LIKE RADUCANU ALWAYS PLAYING SAFE AND ITS HARD WATCHING HER SHES HARD PLAYER TO WATCH SHES NOT FUN TO WATCH SHES BORING TO WATCH
"Playing safe" Raducanu had more winners than Fernandez and so did Sabalenka
ZERO rallies from the final against Raducanu? Shady…
To bad she couldn't do that against EMMA.
she was beat tired playing 4 intense three setters in a week by the time she faced Emma. same situation with Kei vs Marin in 2014
Am I watching Nadal?
Leylah, don’t raise your arms up after every point.
she would have won if there was no break for injury
She tried the lengthy toilet break after losing the first set. She failed. Miserably.
No she wouldn’t have. Her mental game was off you could tell with the number of UE’s she kept making. Emma was fully on her A game, physically and mentally.
if only she didn't take injury break we would never know
@@williambo5989 Nope. Fernandez was serving badly. She gave up 18 break point opportunities and was serving at only 56% which is very poor. Fernandez has 2 break point opportunities after the MTO and didn't capitalise. In total before the MTO Raducanu only gave up 7 break point opportunities on service which is very tidy
Look at the bright side, we will be watching them somewhere in time.
Emma Raducannu is the best.
I can appreciate the skill but I can't support players with that sort of attitude.
Same here
Enjoying themselves on court and getting the crowd involved? I agree, quite shocking.
@@jim42078 You've deliberately missed the point. But keep being you.
@@sdcraig seriously, what attitude are you referring to? (just curious)
Not sure what you’re talking about. But she’s a very reserved player otherwise. She was playing the US Open, she was getting the crowd involved. Sounds quite misogynistic if you ask me. She doesn’t grunt, she plays, she works hard for her points.
She is a new drama queen in wta tour
Give it a rest.
As long as they don't shriek... I'm ok. I really miss Jelena's drama.
