Came here after watching Leylah defeat Osaka in the 3rd round of the US Open. I'm a Leylah Fernandez fan now!
Lies again? Hello SC
Me too - she’s so fresh, so quick with her responses, her wit.
And now she's in the US Open final... What a wonderful family! I hope the Fernandez sisters will have the same fate than the Williams ones!
She will. She has all the top player attention already.
Excuse me. What language is she speaking? What is her nationality?
@@Vanhelsing543 speak’ s French they live in Quebec, both parents are immigrants from Philippines and Ecuador
@@lolcadena3462 Thank you for the information.
No savings, no nothing…he had to sell his car to let Leylah participate the Australia Open!! This family deserves everything they earned in life and I’ll be cheering hard for them! All my respect
This is an iconic family. Great role models all around. The girls are so engaged with their parents and each other-- not a distracting iPhone in sight. They look each other in the eyes, hug and kiss with wild abandon. So refreshing. I'll bet that they have very strict Internet and phone regimens. And it pays off. I wish more families would use them as a model.
How can anyone not root for her to win the USA tennis open? Her hardworking parents uprooted their entire life by moving to Florida so that she will be able to have the best opportunity to delevop her tennis skills and achieve her dreams. Her story has the makings of a great Hollywood movie. Leylah is imbued with a great work attitude, positive attitude towards life, strong set of family values, and salient humbleness due to her parents' upraising of her. I hope she wins it all.
All the best Leyla
@Talcum I am rooting for Leyla, sorry too
Why u need to mention about her low mid class parents to remind people to root her? Not a proper statement i guess, u mean good to her but pls have more compassionate pls.
i have never care for us open i live in california i am vietnamese i am writing you because a chinese girl vs filipina we are asian ,we are not good in tennis

Now that Leylah has become an international sensation, I think we need to put English (and Spanish if possible since Leylah speaks very, very fluent Spanish) subtitles to all the videos :D
A very good combination of Ecuadorian and Filipino blood…strong family bond…worth emulating…thanks for sharing your story…God bless, stay safe ..keep fighting Leylah…one of your new fans here in thr Philippines 🇵🇭 Mabuhay ka !!! 💕💖
Proud Filipino here, good luck Leylah .Kudos to the proud parents and her coach.Canada ,Ecuador and Philippines fans will be praying for her Saturday finals🤔😍🙏
Who here is watching this in the middle of Leylah's run in the 2021 U.S. Open? I can imagine what Leylah's dad would be feeling right now - pure joy. What an inspiring story.
Leylah is now in the semis after defeating Svitolina in thrilling tie-break in the 3rd set. Congrats Leylah!!! The cinderalla girl of 2021 US Open!

Congratulations Leylah🇨🇦♥️ what a wonderful family! No doubt her younger sister will be next!
Go leylah!!! On est tous avec toi !
Leylah Fernandez Is now only 18 yrs old and 5'6" But WOW!!! How she beat Osaka (2020 US Champ) today!! I can't believed 5'6" can serves like that!! specially with Osaka kind of returns, Leylah kept her serves games easily through out the 3rd set. I think the future tennis super star is here now!! and 'the sky is the limit' Wish her the best in a future!
Wow! Absolutely inspirational on so many fronts! Family life, love, sacrifice, honesty, humility, hard work, hard work! Togetherness, harmony and love!!! WOW! It's mind blowing. And I am super impressed by the multilingualism. A global family: Canada, Ecuador and the Philippines! What a blend of cultures!! I love it! Remarkably honest man, that father, coach and friend!
Well stated! Your sentiments are exactly what I think the essence of the Fernandez family represents.
Great respect to the father. He clearly took great chances and risk to devote so much time to tennis. Most tennis parents are crazy but he seems to be doing a great job.
I dont think that there is any sport out there that requires as much contribution from the parents as Tennis. Congratulations to the whole family!
there is, it's called badminton. The top prize is only ~50,000 USD, not 2.5 million USD. Similar to tennis, sport canada doesn't assist amateur or pro badminton player, it's all self funding other than racquets and clothing.
@@andrewcannon587 fair point. Hope the governments do more.
Anyone here after her debut in US open 2021 final
Bon courage M.!
The Philippines is rooting for you in the finals, Leylah! ❤️💪🏻
From Canada, part Ecuadorian, part Filipina, 100% TALENT! Congrats to LAF and her family for winning her/their first WTA title.
Sus abuelos son peruvians

Like a young Monica Seles - a tiny body with fierce eyes, smiling so much, and winning with skill and especially unrivaled conviction. Also like Seles, she has a coach who is a loving father who learned tennis for her, and helped her move to Florida to train. Maybe it was edited out of the story, but the family left Quebec because she was cut from the provincial tennis prorgram.... Wishing her the championship tomorrow, a great career, and happiness and health to all her family.
Very good the hard work and perseverance will always come through in the end.Do not stop get it get it that is why she made the Us Open finals it was supposed to happen. Now the extra hard work can lead her to winning a grand slam.
That's a real Quebec accent there in French. It amazes how they go from French to English to Spanish with such ease.
Well Done Leylah US Open 21, better luck next year. You have a passionate family and you will succeed 🤩🤩🤩 didn’t understand language but I got the gist 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
wow! what an interview. i needed a kleenex watching the emotion. i hope Leylah keeps that spark and the pressures don't get to her. she's a bright spot!
Used a dozen kleenexes
I'm impressed with her French. I shouldn't be since she's from Laval, Quebec but her dad is from Ecuador (spanish), Mom from Philippines (tagalog). Maybe the multi-lingual environment (French, English, Spanish, Tagalog) did something to the brain that somehow enhanced her tennis.
I don’t even speak French but I could still tell that this is a,lovely family.
From the Philippines....Fight for every points, win or lose, we will support you
Win or lose Leylah!I will always watch your match, you have shown us something new in women's tennis,it is delight to watch.

I wish there was english subs here now that theres a whole lotof interest on leylah, it seemed like they were saying some very inspiring words
You can turn in English subtitles on the bar on the bottom of the video , it translates to English
Use the wheel, some guy named Fiinks is so stupid he couldn’t figure it out
I love the fact that Leylah can speak Spanish, English, and French. I heard she's trying to learn Filipino (her mother's native tongue), although she finds it quite hard to learn and understand.
Odds are that would Tagalog, the most spoken language in the Philippines, though there are many local languages spoken there. Together they are all filipino languages, but there is no one filipino language!
@@theb.a.r.strategy7254 actually the standardized form of tagalog is officially called "filipino"
@@evandpeng I stand corrected! Thanks
There are quite a few different dialects spoken in the Philippines, like Cebuano and Illongo. Some Filipinos more south can't even speak Tagalog.

Wonderful video on a wonderful family. Being a native New Yorker now living in Florida I just loved seeing the Fernandez run to the US Open final. I wanted her to win so badly but I feel like she just ran out of gas. Also Emma was very good and did not lose a set in 10 matches which is unthinkable. That said I think the final score should have been closer than 6 4 6 3. That looks like a routine scoreline but that was the toughest 6 4 6 3 match you will ever see. It will be interesting to see where Leylah goes from herre. She has the best hands I've seen in a long time in women's tennis. I also think she's a very smart player. Obviously she's very gutsy too. Her beating Osaka and then Kerber and then Svitolina and then sabalanka all in 3 sets was epic. That was some of the best work in a grand slam I've seen in a long time.
It is a very touching story of a family who strives so hard to make dreams a reality, kinda the Cinderella story of the modern tennis aspirant to make it to the world ranking of elite athletes.
This young woman is absolutely impressive. She plays so well !
Raducanu too , this is the most exciting slam final in long time...so pumped i usually never watch girls now i am excited

Leylah has a great family. ALL very supportive. Too bad her father could not be present to watch her play in person. I'm very much impressed how a little girl like her can play so well against more experienced players. Great wins over Osaka and and her match today that went the limit and put her in the Semi-Finals.
