  • Great video and very practical suggestions. In my case, I am learning very slowly and feel like I am years away from being conversational. My goal is to be able to read Turkish.

  • I can think very simple sentences and thoughts in Turkish, sometimes saying things in Turkish on accident when I mean to say them in English. But longer sentences and thoughts are much harder to express.

  • #Esaret is my favorite and only Turkish TV series I am currently watching. I am using Duolingo to learn Turkish. You are dead right, it is a lot harder to speak Turkish then understand it. I also keep calling myself a kopek. 🤣 Or asking for erkek instead of ekmek. Thanks for the tips. Question, where do you find Turkish books to read?

  • I thank you for your efforts in presenting such amazing and interesting videos for us to learn Turkish. I have found listening to Turkish music videos with the Turkish lyrics or both Turkish and English translations in them. I have found singing the words easier to remember. I also find myself thinking about the verses or chorus often in the day.

  • I have the opposite problem. I can express myself mostly accurately in Turkish, but I can only understand a Turk if they give me a few seconds between clauses. Even "Ay ne tatlı köpek! Senin mi?" I would have to either think about, or just guess what it meant from "tatlı" and the yes/no question at the end.

  • Great tips, thanks! I have a different challenge to face though - I learnt Turkish informally from friends who didn’t speak English, I’ve never been enrolled in a language course nor ever really written in Turkish (but for text messages). It kind of makes me illiterate (I can read Turkish though) not being able to write😅 and I’ve never written a longer text in Turkish, I wouldn’t know how to anyway. I’ve no problem though with talking and discussing less complicated topics or following tv series with Turkish subtitles on 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • I'm Hungarian, I completely understand the problem. Our language is similar, but you have to learn everything in Turkish because the words and vowels are different. Except is: O = Ö (engl. He + She) in Turkish O = in Hungarian Ö Yes, we understand this word exactly. (and much more: elma = alma, etc.)
